  • Domestic to International, ~2:30 hr enough time?
    Jun 16, 2015
Hi all, I will be arriving at terminal 4 at 9:05 am via American Airlines and want to catch an Air China flight from terminal 2 at 11:30 am. These are separate tickets. Does this leave enough time in your estimation? I think I'll be able to walk between the terminals-- should I run? And would it behoove me to only bring a carry-on bag? Any advice is appreciated!

That should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. Even if you check a bag.

    Thank you Zap!

  • Flight connections
    Jun 16, 2015
I arrive in a flight from las at 8:20pm terminal 5 delta and have a connecting flight to Sydney australia va terminal 3. Delta has told me that my luggage with be checked from vegas to Sydney is this true and does that mean I won't have to go thru immigration at lax again

Yes, that is true. You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. Your Virgin Australia flight will actually depart from the International Terminal (their check in desk is just in Terminal 3). So all you have to do is walk from T5 to the International Terminal and go through security.

  • Domestic to International Flight
    Jun 16, 2015
I'm considering a trip where I will be arriving at 6:30 AM on Hawaiian Airlines and am departing 8:30 AM on ANA. The flights are separate trips and I will only have a carry-on? Will this be enough time?

Sorry, didn't mention that I am arriving from HNL

Yes, that should be enough time. You will have to walk from Terminal 2 to the International Terminal, get your ANA boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security.

  • Incoming Virgin Australia/outgoing Alaska Air within 2 hrs
    Jun 14, 2015
Hi. Haven't booked tickets yet but planning on arriving on Virgin from Sydney at 6.30am and then leaving on Alaska Air to Costa Rica at 8.40am. Is this even possible since both are international flights and I think different terminals?

That would be really riding the line between possible and not possible. Immigration lines can be long when all the flights from Australia arrive at about the same time and Terminal 6 where you will have to depart will likely be crowded at that time as well. It's possible under perfect circumstances, but i probably wouldn't try it. Spend a day in LA.

  • TBIT to T6
    Jun 13, 2015
My flight arrives at TBIT at 14:55. Second flight (on US Airways on separate ticket, carry-on only) leaves T6 at 16:20. I can run with my carry-on. Is this doable? Does US Airways allow online check-in for international flights (2nd flight is to Mexico)?

US Airways allows online check-in for international flights if they have previously verified your passport details (if you have flown them international before). This will be a very difficult connection if you aren't able to check-in online.

Thank you very much for the reply. Have flown US Airways Internationally before but that passport has since expired. Will this make a difference since the passport number will be different?

Yes, it could matter. Also, your flight may be operated by American. That may make a difference too.

  • Terminal 2 AC - Terminal 7 United
    Jun 11, 2015
Arriving with AC at 9:49 am, I have 1h11 to connect do you think is enough time to go from terminal 2 to 7. I am going to Honolulu departure at 11:00 am with United

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Canada and your baggage will be transferred. All you have to do is walk across the center of the airport from T2 to T7 and go through security.

  • baggage recheck terminal 2
    Jun 11, 2015
hi! i will be arriving at LAX T2 from an Avianca flight at 8:40pm, and conecting to a United flight at T7 departing at 10:49pm. Is this enough time? and does T2 have baggage recheck facilities or will i have to schlep my bags over to T7?

Yes, that should be enough time. If both tickets were bought on the same reservation you should be able to re-check your bags in T2.

  • Connecting from Qatar Airways to United Flight
    Jun 11, 2015
I land at 1:55PM with Emirates and then depart to HNL with United Airlines at 5pm. We have purchased separate tickets. Do I need to check in again for the flight with United? How long do I need? is 3 hours enough time to exit and check in again?

Yes, you will have to transfer your bags yourself from the International Terminal where you will arrive to Terminal 7 where you will depart. 3 hours should be enough time.

  • Transfer TBT to Terminal 7
    Jun 11, 2015
April 19 United UA 99 MEL/LAX arrived 45 minutes early at 6:00AM. Disembarking delayed by 19 minutes due to Customs not ready (Sunday). Disembarked 6:10 outside TBT 6:30AM. 15 Minutes walk to Terminal 7. Took half an hour to get through security. Total one hour 15 minutes for transfer. But very smooth transit seeing previous trip took 3 hours to transfer.

  • Connecting flight
    Jun 10, 2015
Hi! I'll be arriving at TBIT from HK at 1115AM. I need to catch a flight to Seattle and am looking at getting the 255PM flight. Will that be enough time to clear immigrations and customs and check in for the flight? Thanks!

Yes, that should be enough time.

Thanks, Zap! I just don't want to be biting my nails though out the flight wondering it will be delayed in landing ;)

  • Connection Question
    Jun 10, 2015
Hi. I arrive at terminal 4 at 7:05 (late arrival) and have a connection at 8:06 in terminal 2. Any chance I'll make it?

It's possible but you'll have to run. it'll be pretty much impossible if you have checked luggage and are on two separate tickets though.

  • terminal 3 to terminal 4
    Jun 8, 2015
I am arriving on Delta D420 into terminal 4 at 7pm, have to collect luggage, Then leaving Virgin from terminal 3 at 10.20. is that enough time to collect bags, get through customs and check in

Delta 420 is a domestic flight from what I can tell. You won't have to go through customs on a domestic flight. Even if it is an international flight, yes that should be enough time for your transfer.

thank you very much ! Yes the Delta flight is domestic. then I go to terminal 3 to fly to Sydney. Can you tell me how long it takes to get from terminal 4 to terminal 3 ? thank you again !

It is a 5-10 minute walk. Note that the Virgin Australia check-in counters are in Terminal 3 but you will have to go to the International Terminal to board your flight.

  • Connection from domestic (United) to International (Singapore Airlines
    Jun 7, 2015
Hi there, we'll be landing at LAX at 11am (domestic flight from SFO on United Airlines) and will have to catch our international flight on Singapore Airlines at 2.30pm (check in at 12.30pm). Is that enough time to get our luggages and make it to check in? We're a family with 3 kids. Do we have to go though immigration again after landing at LAX and before boarding my international flight which may cause us some delay? Thanks!

You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do is collect your baggage from Terminal 7 and take it to the International Terminal to re-check and then go through security. You should have enough time.

  • Connection from United to QANTAS
    Jun 7, 2015
I'm arriving via United around 19:00 into terminal 7 or 8 and I have a QANTAS flight scheduled at 20:35 in the International terminal. Will there be enough time to make the flight? I'll only have a carry-on and personal item with me (I'm assuming my checked bags will transfer).

If you purchased two separate tickets your checked bags will NOT be transferred. You barely have enough time as it is only with carry-ons.

I don't think the tickets were purchased separately - I ordered them through an online service (StudentUniverse) and the United flight appears in my QANTAS itinerary and vice versa. I believe there's a partnership between the two, and I think my bags would be automatically transferred. But considering it would be fairly late in the evening, would it be alright? I'm used to the likes of DIA but I've never been to LAX.

There is no "partnership" between United and Qantas but they do have an interline agreement and you are correct, if they were bought on the same reservation your bags will be checked through and transferred for you. You can make your connection then, you will just have to hope your United flight is on-time and move as quickly as you can from T7 to the International Terminal (I recommend running along the lower level of the terminal roadway - you will go to your left as you exit T7).

    Jun 6, 2015

Yes, that should be enough time. To get a better boarding position you should check in online for your southwest flight before you leave Korea. You will have to transfer your bags yourself from the International Terminal to Terminal 1, but you should have enough time as long as the Asiana flight is within an hour of schedule.
