Hi I'm flying into LA from Sydney Australia with Qantas at terminal 4 at 9.40am and I have a another flight at 2.00pm with American Airlines to Houston at terminal 1 do I have to pick up my baggage and check in with american Airlines and will that b enough time and going through customs have no idea where to pick up my luggage at the airport if anyone knows and can help me that would be great

You have your Terminals a little mixed up. At LAX, Qantas flights from Sydney arrive in the Tom Bradley International Terminal. There you will go through US Immigration, pick up your baggage, and then go through US customs. There's no way to get lost doing this as you will be funneled the correct way. You will then follow the signs to the re-check desk and re-check your bags. You will then go outside to the curbfront and walk to the right. The next terminal you come to will be Terminal 4 which is where your American Airlines flight will depart. You will have plenty of time.

    Thanks for your help

  • first time flying

Hi! I am flying for the first time in one month and have a few questions about what will happen during my layover that may seem silly. I am flying from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to LAX with American Airlines then from LAX to Brisbane (BNE) with Quantas. I arrive at Terminal 4 at 9:15 on a Sunday and depart from Terminal 4 at 11:50 the same evening. My first question: What do I do when I get off the plane at LAX? Do I go through immigration, collect my checked bags, clear customs, re enter the terminal, check in and go through security all over again? If this is so then I am worried I did not leave enough time between the flights? Thank you in advance for any advice, I am getting a quite nervous.

You will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. At LAX all you will have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which as you mention, will both be in the same terminal. You should have plenty of time.

We will arrive with a Child at terminal t7 Gate 76. with united from London. And After 2,5 hours Domestik flight with united to hawai from terminal t6. Do we have to pickup the laggage and go through Customs and Check again ? Or the united Airline will Take care of laggage Transfer to Domestik flight?how to handle the?

Yes, on arrival at LAX you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag. Terminals 6 & 7 are connected at their secured areas - proceed to security check with your boarding pass to Hawaii and follow signs to T6 with gates 60 to 62, followed by gates 64A -65B & gates 66 -69B.

  • Why Did Security Take My Ham Sandwiches?

Recently my wife and I were transiting LAX via Alaska Airlines from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Vancouver, Canada. We went through customs at Tom Bradley, picked up our baggage and proceeded to drop off our baggage for the flight from LAX to Vancouver. We had to pass through Customs one last time to hand in our declaration and were asked if we were bringing back any fruits etc,. We said no just our lunch. The Officier asked what kind and I responded, 3 ham and cheese sandwiches. He marked and circled 3A on our declaration and told us we had to go through another baggage screening and also give up our 3 ham and cheese sandwiches. I would add here all officiers were very polite. What I don't understand is why we had to give oup our 3 ham and cheese sandwiches?

Because you're not allowed to bring meat into the US from abroad: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/82/~/travelers-bringing-food-into-the-u.s.-for-personal-use

I am flying from jfk on delta arriving lax at 7.05 my next flight with fiji air is at 9.30 .is that enough time. Do I have to go through srcurity again. How do I go from delta terminal to international terminal . thanks for help in advance

Read my response below except that Delta flights arrive in Terminal 5 (also an easy walk to the TBIT). You will have to go to the Fiji Airways check-in counter (Air Pacific now calls itself Fiji Airways). Your bags may be checked through to Fiji Airways by Alaska if you bought your tickets together. However, if you bought separate tickets you'll have to bring your bags to the Fiji Airways counter in the TBIT. You will then go through security and to your gate. You should have plenty of time. Don't be intimidated by the throngs of people in the TBIT late at night - security lines aren't that bad, they're just waiting for the check-in counters for the REALLY late flights to open.

I am flying from jfk on alaska airlines arriving lax at 7.05. My next flight is at 9.30 on air pacific. Do I have to clear security again? Rebook my luggage? And are two snd half hours enough? How do I go from terminal to terminal?

You will arrive in Terminal 6 and depart from the TBIT. You can take a shuttle or walk (in my opinion it's faster to walk, but it's kind of a long walk). Also, Alaska Airlines does not fly JFK-LAX. Your flight is probably on American, which means it will arrive in Terminal 4 which is closer to the TBIT.

  • Advice on Terminal

I will be flying to Hong-Kong from LAX Terminal B and shall be coming from San Jose on Terminal 4 AA Is terminal 4 and terminal B inter-connected and do i need to re-collect my boarding pass

Terminal 4 and the International Terminal are located next to each other but you will have to go outside and may have to go to the Cathay Pacific check-in desk to get a proper boarding pass. You will have to go through security again once you get to the International Terminal as well.

I'm also flying from San Jose to LAX on American and then to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. Both flights are on the same ticket. I was told that my bags are checked through to Hong Kong. I'm assuming that I don't need to check in to my CX flight when I get into LAX? However, my big concern is that there is only one hour between my arrival from San Jose to my departure to Hong Kong. Will that be enough time? Since both flights are scheduled with American Airlines, I think they would tell me if the connection does not work?

  • enough time?

I arrive LAX from Seattle at 8:55pm. Term. 6 on Alaska. I Need to get bags from bag claim, go to Bradley & check in again for flight on Quantas to Melbourne, Australia at 11:30pm. Is that enough time? My only other choice is to arrive LAX at 7pm. Terminal maps don't show where I pickup up my bag and how to get to bradley.

Yes you have enough time for transfer. On arrival at T6, get your bag and exit the terminal. Take the LAX bus Route A on lower arrival level island under sign 'LAX shuttle airline connection', which runs every 12-15 mins. Your next stops are T8, going around the bend to T1, T2, T3 and then TBIT (Bradley)- count on about 12 mins. Check-in counters at TBIT are on level 2. Thereafter go through security check and follow signs to your Concourse which is either E or F. (Look at overhead screens for flight & gate numbers). To familiarize yourself with the Airport layout, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You can also walk from T6 to the TBIT fairly easily.

I'll be arriving with American at terminal 4 and i have a connecting flight at terminal B, do i have to claim my baggage and check it again at terminal B? Thanks!!

By "Terminal B" do you mean the International Terminal? What airline are you flying out of the International Terminal? Were both tickets bought on the same reservation or not?

  • Enough time to change flights?

Arriving T2 at 3:20 on 12/29 with checked bags. Will we have enough time get baggage and get to T1 in time to check bags, go through security and connecting flight at 4:20?

Probably not. You need to change your flights.

We're flying United from SLC to LAX on 1/29 arriving at 7:05 am @ Terminal 8. Our Hawaiian Airlines flight is at 8:40 am from Terminal 2. I know we'll have to exit the airport and go back through security — and they won't transfer our bags, so we'll have to do that ourselves. Originally we had almost 2.5 hours between flights, but both airlines have changed their times. I'm a little stressed and United won't let us switch our flight to the day before. Someone had suggested exiting baggage claim at Terminal 7/8, getting a cab to Terminal 2. Then using the Skycap services — or Hawaiian Airlines web check-in bag drop — to expedite that process. Does anyone have a sense of whether this is possible?

You will not be able to get a cab that will take you between terminals.

  • time needed getting through customs to make connectign flight

I will be arriving into LAX, from Tahiti, on Qantas. It would be on a Thursday at 11:00 am. I would like to take a Virgin America flight to Portland,OR that departs at 1:30 pm. They would both be booked on the same ticket. Does this really allow enough time to make the connecting flight?

Qantas does not fly from Tahiti to LAX. Your flight is probably on Air Tahiti Nui. Air Tahiti Nui and Virgin America do not appear to have an interline agreement, so you would have to move the bags yourself to T3 from the TBIT. That would be a very difficult connection to make. Also, Virgin America no longer flies nonstop from LAX to Portland, so I don't know what flight you're looking at.

Yes, there is a stopover in San Fran then on to Portland. I thought it was a little strange this was being offered up as one ticket. The connection seemed rather close. Thanks for the information.

For reference, I flew in on the Air Tahiti Nui flight that arrives at 10:25 AM last month and flew out of LAX from Terminal 7 at 1:14 PM and had priority security and maybe only had 45 minutes to spare. So your proposed itinerary doable, but it's cutting it close.

  • Is 3hrs 50 min sufficient International to Domestic

Hi. We arrive at TBIT at 1100 and I wish to book a direct flight to IAD. The ideal would be an AA flight departing at 1450. It seems on the face of it sufficient time to connect, but at LAX? I can book a UA flight at 1704 if absolutely necessary. Thanks

Yes, that should be plenty of time. The TBIT and AA's terminal are right next to each other so it's a very easy walk. I arrived in the TBIT at about 9 AM last month and I was out of customs by 9:45

  • DEN-LAX on Frontier, LAX to Bangkok on Delta
    Nov 13, 2013

Hi, we are US citizens, arrive at LAX at 9:54 from Denver on Frontier, then depart at 12:00 on Delta for Bangkok via Tokyo. We are wondering if this 2 hours is enough time, and how we make this connection- I assume we come in on T3, and then claim bags, go to Terminal B and recheck? Any tips or advice very welcome. Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time but you will really have to hurry since you have an international departure and have to transfer bags yourself. You will arrive in Terminal 3 and depart from Terminal 5, NOT the International Terminal.

Thank you, zap. I saw all the delta at 5, but wasn't sure if that included international or not. We can certainly hustle.

We have a family of 5, including 4 US citizens (3 adults, one toddler) and one permanent resident (green card). Will one hour be enough time to get through customs and immigration, and board our connecting domestic flight? What is the process?

Note - flight will arrive from mexico in terminal 6, connecting flight also leaves from terminal 6.
