  • AKL-LHR with LAX layover - do I have to clear passport control?
    Mar 11, 2016
    4
I am flying from Auckland to London and have a stopover at LAX for 2hr. Will I have to clear passport control or is there a way to stay in the TBIT without having to do that?

    What airlines are you flying?

    United/Air NZ

If both flights are on Air New Zealand on flight NZ1 and NZ2, you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs and security, but you will stay in the International Terminal. If your flight to London is operated by United, then you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go to Terminal 7 and through security. ANZ has a guide to connecting at LAX - http://www.airnewzealand.com/connecting-at-los-angeles

    ZAP - thanks, fantastic information!

  • MNL>LAX: baggage claim before connecting flight AA?
    Mar 11, 2016
    1
Hello, my family and I will arrive (from MNL) at LAX terminal B on Philippine Airlines with a 2 hr 20 min layover before connecting to AA in terminal 4. This is all on the same reservation. Will we need to claim our bags from philippine airlines before transferring to terminal 4? And also is our layover time sufficient for customs, baggage claiming, and baggage re-check if need be? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then walk to Terminal 4, get your AA boarding passes if you don't already have them and go through security. You should have enough time.

Hi there, I will be arriving at LAX International at 1325 and will connect through American Airline at 15:25....Will there be enough time for me going thru immigration and also is T4 near where I can walk or do I have to catch a shuttle....

That should be enough time. What airline are you flying to LAX? Are all your tickets on the same reservation?

Flying with Fiji Airways..ticket on same reservation with checked bags..

You will arrive in the International Terminal which is right next to Terminal 4. You will be able to re-check your bags at the re-check desk in the International Terminal after clearing customs.

Arriving AirNZ on a sunday arrival 11am..........is there enough time for us to tonnect to an Aeromexico flight at 1330 on the same day? thanks.

I think that's just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I will be on the BA Flight from Heathrow and land at 14.55 at Terminal B.I then have to go to Terminal 4 for the 17.34 AA flight to San Diego. Will I have enough time and will I need to collect bags and recheck at LAX?

Yes that should be enough time. You will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then walk next door to Terminal 4 and go through security and then take the shuttle bus to the American Eagle remote terminal for your departure gate.

    Thank you

Hi, I'm flying from Atlanta to LAX and then to Sydney with Delta. I arrive at LAX at 9:50 pm and the connection to Sydney is at 11:34 pm. Would this be enough time? Thank you for your help!

Yes, if both flights are on-time that's enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thank you!

Hi, my partner and I will be arriving at LAX from Cancun with Delta at 10 am, then departing to Incheon at 11.30 pm same day with Korean Air. Kindly advise whether checked baggages need to be taken out first then rechecked ? We will flying Economy with Delta and Business with Korean Air. Thanks so much

Yes, when you arrive in LAX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags at the re-check desk if they are tagged to ICN. You will arrive in Terminal 5 and depart from the International Terminal.

  • Flying Calgary to Brisbane via LAX

I am travelling on Air Canada to LAX, transferring to Qantas to Brisbane arriving LAX at 21.13 and departing 22.20. Is this enough time? Not sure that I can check baggage all the way from Calgary?

If your bags are not tagged all the way (if you purchased two separate reservations), then this is not enough time. You will either have to change your flight or not bring any checked bags. Even without checked bags this is very very difficult.

  • Enough time between connections ?

I am arriving at LAX from Montreal at terminal 2 with a United flight operated by Air Canada at 11:00 AM and I have to get my next flight with United this time in terminal 7 To Honolulu at 01:00 PM. It gives me only 2 hours between both flights. Since I'm leaving from Canada, customs will already be cleared and i don't need to claim my baggages...Do i have enought time ? BTW, For my trip back for the same flights, I only have 1:45 mins left...

Yes, that should be enough time for both connections. The fastest way between T2 (Air Canada) and T7 (United) is to walk straight across the terminal area parking garages between the two terminals.

  • T2 to INTL Terminal and INTL Terminal to T2 w/ checked baggage

Hello, I would like to know if going from LAX T2 to the INTL Terminal if I have to pick up checked baggage at T2 and go through security again at the INTL Terminal? And for the return, if arriving at INTL Terminal with checked baggage, do I have to pick up the baggage at INTL Terminal and re-check at T2 and go through security again at T2? Also do you know the minimum connection time required from INTL Terminal to T2?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in the International Terminal and Terminal 2 when going between them. I can't give you any answers about your baggage unless you post what airlines you are flying and if your flights are all on the same reservation or two separate reservations. I would recommend 3 hours for such connections.

Thanks for the input ZAP. The inbound LAX flight is AC and outbound is TN (I have 4 hours to connect so should be sufficient); the return is TN to AC, I have separate reservations but will try to have luggage tagged all the way through to final destination and currently I arrive at 1010 TN102 and connect to AC 798 departing at 1155, I think it will be a bit tight....

You definitely won't be able to get Air Tahiti Nui to tag your bags to Air Canada and probably won't be able to get Air Canada to tag your bags to Air Tahiti Nui. Yes, that is a bit of a difficult connection on the return. I recommend 3 hours for non connected international flights at LAX.

Considering UA33 is an international flight, no that is not enough time.

  • TBIT to terminal 4,5 or 6
    Mar 8, 2016

Hi, We are arriving at LAX in August at 1230pm on Air New Zealand. We are wanting to connect on to Orlando (direct). We have a couple options. Delta @ 2.55 or AA @ 3.35. We will have checked luggage. Based on previous trips through customs at LAX I'm fairly confident we'd make both times if everything goes smoothly. I'm probably going to go with AA for the extra time we'll have. If these are to tight for time it's a 9hr layover for the next direct flight. I just thought I'd gauge your opinion as it's been 5 years since our last time through LAX. Also, with the new connector from TBIT to terminal 4 will we have to go through security again in terminal 4 or 5 once we clear customs? Thanks for your help

Yes, you will still have to go through security again after you clear customs. I'd take the AA flight, you should be OK.

  • International Terminal to Southwest Term. 1

I land on ANA from Tokyo at 555pm; I have to catch a 710pm flight on Southwest out of terminal 1. I have Global Entry and will have carry on luggage only. Can I make it? Will I have to go through TSA security again at Terminal 1?

Yes, you will have to go through security again in Terminal 1. This is an extremely difficult connection, even with no checked bags and global entry. You will have to run to T1.

Arrive terminal 5 at 9:35 AM and need to depart at 11:00 AM terminal 2 Hawaiian, do we need to pick up bags to re-book? Do we have enough time? which option: walk or shuttle?

Yes, Delta and Hawaiian don't interline bags except on inter-island flights. You will have to claim your bags from Delta and take them to T2 and re-check. You should probably walk. You have just enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Mexico via Alaskan Air connect to Southwest to ORD
    Mar 6, 2016

Is it reasonable to connect from Mexico via Alaskan Air arrival at 3:28 pm to Southwest Airlines for Chicago at 4:40 pm departure?

This is on a Saturday in June

No, that would be completely impossible. You'd arrive in Terminal 6, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags all the way to Terminal 1, check your bags with southwest and go through security, all in a little over an hour. Maybe if you didn't have checked bags and had already checked in online for your Southwest flight you'd have a chance. Also, Southwest flies to MDW, not ORD in Chicago.

Someone influential said we could but I went to the expert. By detecting my error of ORD and correcting it to MDW I suspect you are not a robot or even IBM's Watson! Great job thanks.
