  • Transfer Question

I am flying in from DC to Sydney. I am flying United from DC to LAX then LAX to Sydney on Quantas. Do I need to pick my bag up from the United Flight before getting my flight to Sydney? I did a package deal and I think I have 1 Ticket. Any ideas?

If everything is booked on one ticket then your bags should be transferred for you. You just need to walk from your arrival in Terminal 7 to the International Terminal, get your Qantas boarding pass if you don't already have it, then go through security.

Thanks just wanted to be sure. Thank you for your help.

  • Terminal 4 ( American Airlines ) to Terminal 7 ( United ) to Melbourne

Arriving :Sun 2015-Mar-29 08:51PM PDT Gate 43 (AA) Departing : Sun 2015- Mar 29 - 10:35PM PDT Gate 77 ( United) What is fastest route and is it still within security area? Thanks you.

It is now possible to make this connection inside security. There is a tunnel under the tarmac between T4 and T5 and T5 and T6, then in T6 you will walk to the base of the terminal and there is an above ground walkway to T7. You have enough time only if your bags are tagged through to Melbourne or if you are not checking bags. You don't have enough time if you will have to transfer bags yourself.

  • enough time to check in and get breakfast

flying out of LAX to Puerto Vallarta Sunday 755am and would like to know how early we should be at airport to get through security, and where there is a good place to get breakfast? Before or after security.... We only have carry-on luggage so no check-in needed

Be at the airport at about 6:15-6:30. Where you can eat depends on the terminal you are flying out of.

Flying with United, not sure the terminal. Thank you for the info

Your flight will depart from Terminal 7. I would get there at about 6:30 AM. There aren't many restaurants in terminal 7, so you might want to pack something to bring with you.

Do we have to pass immigration at LAX. We fly in from san diego and going back to the philippines. Do they need to stamp our passport of US exit?

You do not go through US Immigration upon exit from the US. The airline will transmit your passport information to immigration when you board your flight to the Philippines to inform them that you left.

I am flying into LAX on a Sunday night on LAN, arriving at 725 pm. Is that enough time to catch a 920 pm Southwest flight? Otherwise, I need to stay at a nearby hotel for the night.

No, that isn't enough time. Since you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through customs, then take your bags to Terminal 1 to re-check. I doubt you will get there in time before the bag check cutoff. Just spend the night.

My nephew is arriving on a Friday night at 6PM and flying back out at 6AM on Saturday morning. If he goes out to eat and hang out will they let him back into the terminal to sleep overnight?

He will be able to sleep in the check-in area or baggage claim but the security lanes will close at about midnight and not reopen until about 4. And since his second flight isn't until Saturday, he may not be allowed back through security until 4.

I will arrive TBIT on philippine airlines at 8:00 am and have a connecting flight on southwest airlines which departs at 12:05 pm will this be enough time and what is fastest way to get to T1?

That should probably be enough time, barely. The fastest way is probably to walk. Just follow the path for passengers ending their journey in LAX, exit the terminal, and walk to the left (against the flow of traffic).

I am flying into LAX at 4:20pm on American Airlines from London. Currently I have a 6 hour layover back up to San Francisco. In order to skip the layover I would like to book a different flight on Southwest leaving at 6:55pm. Do I have enough time to get my bags through customs and connect? Also, since I need to connect my bags to a different airline(Southwest), where would I do that? Thank You!

Yes, that would barely be enough time. You will have to collect your bags in customs, go through customs, exit your arrival terminal and take your bags to Terminal 1 to check them with Southwest.

I have a 4 hour layover at LAX and would like to check out the other terminals while there. How do I get to the other terminals and do I have to go through security at each one?

It depends what terminal you arrive in. 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are all connected by walkways inside security, but 1, 2, 3, and the International Terminal are not connected to any other terminals.

Also be aware that none of the terminals other than the International Terminal are much to look at.

  • Enough layover at LAX between domestic and international flight?

Hello, We are flying from Orlando to LAX with Delta, arriving at 3:54 pm (hopefully no delays). We have about 4 hours at LAX before catching an international flight with Qantas to Melbourne, Australia at 8:35 pm. Is 4 hours enough time to get our luggage from Delta, go to the international terminal, check in with Qantas, and get through immigration? Thanks very much!

Yes, that should be enough time. You do not have to go through immigration. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. You will just have to check in with Qantas and go through security.

  • LAX TO JFK stopover time

I'm flying from Sydney to JFK on the 16th of Feb 2015. I am flying United all the way through and land at LAX AT 6.05 and then leave to JFK at 8.30. Is this enough time? Or are there any pointers on how to ensure I don't miss my connecting flight.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will arrive, go through US Immigrration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to the departure level of Terminal 7, go through security and to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • 30 Minutes Layover at LAX - Will I make it?
    Feb 3, 2015

Hi, I just booked a flight thru Priceline Bid and got a United Airlines connecting flight to Hawaii. Now, the problem is there's only 30 minutes in between, I will have my 3 year old with me and I'm scared that we won't make the connecting flight... the flight is from SFO to LAX (6-7:30 am) then LAX to HNL with 8 AM departure. Thanks in advance for the reply.

That should be enough time if the first flight is on-time. All you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Short Layover at LAX

Hi, I am flying into Costa Rica from Canada with stops in Seattle and LA. We are flying Delta and I am worried about our layover in LA. We have more than enough time in Seattle to get through customs (about 5 hours I think) but only have a 1.2 hour layover in LA. Are all of Deltas flights in the same terminal? And will 1.2 hours be enough time? I am assuming we don't have to go through customs as we will have already done that in Seattle. Thanks, Matt

Yes, all of Delta's flights at LAX are in Terminal 5. Yes, on your way to Costa Rica you won't have to go through customs in LAX. All you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.
