I am travelling from Sydney Australia going to Minneapolis with layover in LAX. Where do I get process for customs LAX or Minneapolis? Do I need to re-checked in for my connecting flight to Minneapolis?

If you bought your flights for both legs of the journey on one ticket, you will only need to re-check in your bags after customs clearance where indicated. If not you would have to take your bags along to the connecting terminal & check it in there. For transfer & terminal info, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/lax, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will go through US Immigration and Customs in LAX. I Can help you further with the process if you let us know what airlines you are flying?

Thank you for the reply guys. I am flying Delta Airlines Sydney to Minneapolis. So does this mean I am going to go through customs clearance in LAX and not Minneapolis? Thanks...Cheers!

Hello. Once we land and leave from T4. Can we leave T4 without having to go through Customs? If so, where are we able to go in the airport? Thank you for your help.

Go through U.S. customs clearance at YYZ, whereupon you will be treated at LAX as 'domestic arrival'. You arrive & depart from Terminal 4, which has gates 42-49.

We are flying NZ2 arriving LAX 2.45pm and connecting AC1885 departing 6.20pm. this is our first time to Canada and the US. My question are - do we have to do passport control and customs at LAX? Also do we have to change terminals at LAX?

Yes, if you are travelling in the next few months you will arrive in Terminal 2, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags, then you will go up to the departure level and go through security and to your departure gate which will also be in Terminal 2. If you are traveling in several or more months, ANZ will have moved to the International Terminal, so after re-checking your bags you will have to walk from the International Terminal to T2. In either instance you should have plenty of time.

As you travel at non-rush hour between Terminals T4 (Singapore) and T8 (US Airways) one hour transfer should suffice if incoming flight is on time. After arrival and passport check, head for the 'Airline Terminals Train' (follow signs) which runs between all terminals, but counter-clockwise (next stops T2/3, T1, T8), runs about every 10 mins and takes about 8 mins -and you need to go through security check at T8 before proceeding to your connecting gate. T8 has Concourse B with gate 1-16, while near its gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 31-47.

I think it will be very difficult to make your connection on-time. You will absolutely have to check in online for your US Airways flight before you depart Europe. By the time you get to T8, it will be definitely past the check-in cutoff.

  • Transfers on Alaska from Mexico to Lax to Santa Rosa, CA

How much time should I allow to go through customs and immigration at LAX a(Terminal 6--Alaska Air) before taking another Alaska Air flight on to Santa Rosa? I only have carry on bags and will travel on a Saturday evening flight in early November. Thanks!

Minimum Intl->domestic connection time is 90 minutes, however, you may be able to do it a little faster since you'll have no checked bags and early Nov is a pretty dead time of year.

Arriving at TBIT from Tahiti on 7/17 at 11:00 AM. Connecting to a Southwest flight that departs at 12:55 PM from Terminal 1. Do I have enough time to make this transfer and flight?

We are arriving at 0635 form Melbourne and need to connect for an amtrak train that leaves union station at 1010. We were taking the Flyaway bus but need to be on the 8.30 bus. Can this be done.

You should definitely be able to make the 8:30 bus. You will likely be out of customs by 7:15.

how long will baggage claim take when i'm flying in domestic?

It depends on the airline, terminal, and time of day, but generally 15-30 minutes.

I'm arriving from SFO to LAX on Virgin America at 6:50pm. I have an unconnected flight on South West departing at 8:15. I will be going to through baggage claim and checking in 2 bags at South West. Do you think I would have enough time to make it to my next flight? Does South West have any kind of service like they come and pick you up and take you asap so you don't miss the flight??

If you bought your flights on one ticket, your bags will automatically be transferred after customs clearance and baggage re-check-in. If not, you need to contact both Southwest & Virgin airlines as to their baggage transfer policy. If they don't transfer, you need to take your bag to Terminal 1 & check it in with Southwest. T1 & T2 are close together - you can walk between the terminals, but you need to go through security check before getting to your connecting gate.

Ignore sumay - his advice is worthless. It will be very difficult to make your transfer. No, southwest will not assist you in making your transfer.

I'm currently scheduled to be on a Virgin Australia flight arriving in LAX at 6:30 am. Will I have time to make it to the United terminal after going through customs and immigration for a 9:10 am flight?

    That should be enough time.

Hi We are arriving from MSP to LAX with Delta then need to transfer to Terminal ? for Air New Zealand flight to AKL. is ANZ terminal 2 and what is the best way to get there

You can walk or take the shuttle bus. It's a bit of a walk. Please note that Air New Zealand will be moving from T2 to the TBIT soon, so be sure to check if they have moved by the time of your flight. If they have already moved to the TBIT before your flight, I would definitely recommend walking.

I will arriving @ LAX @11: 20am from china and going to Dallas on 6/26/14 13:20 pm. American Airline.Do I have enough time?

    1. All international arrivals need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance & re-check-in their bags. Most likely you will arrive in the International TBIT (or TB) Terminal - depending on your incoming airline. A new connector gets you to after customs clearance to Terminal 4, which is American Airline's Terminal. Your transfer time is sufficient.

Hi, I'm arriving from Canada on United Express/terminal 6 at 7:15 pm and leaving at 9:15 pm on Air NZ at terminal 2. What is the fastest way to get between terminals and do you think I have enough time? I am abit worried as this only allows me 2 hours between flights.

That should be enough time, if your first flight is on-time and you're coming in from somewhere with pre-clearance (not Kelowna). If you're coming from Kelowna you will be a bit more rushed. To get between T6/7 and T2 it's a toss up whether taking the shuttle or walking is faster, but if you have a lot of bags taking the shuttle that runs on the lower level will be easier.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am coming from Kelowna, I realize that I have to pick up my bag (only1), clear customs and drop off my bag again before leaving that same terminal. Then I have to go to Terminal 2 for Air NZ. If I catch the shuttle, do I find it just outside the terminal. Also can I walk across the center to get to Terminal 2. I appreciate your help.

It is possible to walk across the center on the lower level near the "theme building". Yes, the shuttle runs on the lower level.

Hello again, Do you know (approx) how long it might take to pick up my luggage and get through customs, This might be hard to answer as there are variables but even approx. Plus how long at would take to get the shuttle over to 2, or how long it would take to walk over?? Thank you!

Hi, sorry to ask so many question. Can you tell me if terminal 6/7 is quite busy at 7:00 at night? How long does it usually take to pick up bag and get through customs and how long would the shuttle take to get to terminal 2?

  • An 1: 51 to go from terminal 8 to terminal 2

I'm flying into LAX from Vancouver on Air Canada terminal 8. once I get there I need to go to terminal 2 Areomexico this flight departs 1:51 after arrival. Do I leave terminal 8 turn left get shuttle to 2 enter terminal 2 then go through security check. Do I have to go up escalator to get to security check. Are the signs very clear. Once I leave security check I go to gate. right.

LAX shuffled many airlines around - Air Canada is now in Terminal 2 (T2), so is AeroMexico. All you need to do is look at overhead screens to find your departing flight & gate number, then follow signs. (At LAX, T2, past the TSA screening are gates 1 & 2 at either side, followed by a food court, and thereafter by gates 4A - 14.

Hi! I am flying for the first time in one month and have a few questions about what will happen during my layover that may seem silly. I am flying from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to LAX with American Airlines then from LAX to Brisbane (BNE) with Quantas. I arrive at Terminal 4 at 9:15 on a Sunday and depart from Terminal 4 at 11:50 the same evening. My first question: What do I do when I get off the plane at LAX? Do I go through immigration, collect my checked bags, clear customs, re enter the terminal, check in and go through security all over again? If this is so then I am worried I did not leave enough time between the flights? Thank you in advance for any advice, I am getting a quite nervous.

You will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto and should be able to get both of your boarding passes when you check in with American there. All you will have to do in LAX is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.
