Arriving on American, exiting in LAX on Qantas. Will I have to re-enter through security when changing planes/terminals? I have a total of 3.0 layover.

Yes, you will have to go through security when you go to the International Terminal for your Qantas flight. 3 hours is plenty of time.

  • transiting through lax from melbourne to new york on united
    Oct 31, 2015
We will be arriving at lax on ua 99 at 6.50 am from melbourne, then departing on ua 1469 to new York at 9.00 am, is this enough time. I would assume? that our bags will be checked through as same airline. how far from international terminal to terminal 7/8

That should be enough time. You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs then immediately re-check them. It's about a 10 minute walk from the International Terminal to T7.

  • AA connection to Tahiti Nui
    Oct 25, 2015
Arriving from Charlotte 10:35pm 10/27, connecting to Tahiti Nui 11:50pm, sound like a doable connection ?

It is enough time if your AA flight is on-time but doesn't leave a lot of time to spare, especially if your bags aren't tagged through to PPT.

  • clearing customs and connection time sufficient?

My family and I are flying in from Vancouver (Canada) with Alaska Air and have a short connection time (57 mins) between our arrival in LAX and another flight to Mexico. Both flights are through Alaska Air and Terminal 6, do you know if we will need to go through US customs and will this connection time be sufficient?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver on your way to Mexico. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate at LAX. You have plenty of time.

  • Getting from domestic to int'l terminal with bags and a small child
    Dec 4, 2014
Hi - Can anyone advise what we will be facing when we arrive at LAX on a domestic flight with three suitcases, a stroller and other carry-on bags and a baby and need to transfer to the international terminal? Are there porters? trolleys that can be used between terminals? international check-in facility at the domestic arrivals terminal? Or will be need to somehow haul it all on and off transit buses? with thanks, Lisa, Australian

For me to provide any specific help you need to tell me what airline or airlines you are flying.

  • Rechecking baggage?
    Nov 11, 2014
If you are transting through LAX from Vegas to Toronto, but arrive and depart from Terminal 4, do you need to go through immigration and recheck baggage?

No, you do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. You will go through Canadian Immigration when you get to Toronto.

Due you go through immigration if you have two international flight on LAX, coming from Ranotonga to LAX (Air New Zealand)with an connected flight to Amsterdam (KLM)? Both are in the same terminal, TBIT.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags. You can re-check at the re-check desk if you purchased a single ticket and your bags are tagged through to AMS, but if they are not you will have to take them to the KLM check-in counter.

With going to war and the threat of Isis and other group, are the security times and lines worse?

It has not impacted airport security.

  • Where do I pick up an international passenger arriving at Terminal 2

I plan on parking and meeting my friend. Where is the best place? Is there a customs exit in Terminal 2 I can access?

The customs exit is on the lower level.

I'm traveling from Guadalajara, Mexico [Delta574] to Los Angeles then to Kahului [Delta1219]... i have a lay over of 2 hours in LAX, do you think I'll be able to pass customs, TSA, and perhaps re.check my baggage (don't know if Delta will put them from Guadalajara checked till Kahului). By the way I'm Mexican so the line will be longer in customs, I'm guessing

You should have enough time. Everything should be within Terminal 5. You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs, then re-check your bags with Delta.

  • Help getting through immigration quickly.
    Aug 21, 2014
We have had our flight arrival changed from 0630 to 0710 arriving from Australia. We are booked on a train leaving union station at 1010. I was informed that it was ok before but now I do not see how we will get through immigration onto a bus and at union station by 0945. Any solutions please. The train only goes every 24 hours. Thanks

At that time of the morning I think you will be out of customs by 8 at the latest. If you can make the 8 AM bus you will be at Union Station at 8:50. Even if you miss that bus and are on the 8:30 bus, you will be at Union Station at 9:20.

    Thank you.

  • Skycap Service
    Aug 1, 2014
Hi, I am looking for Skycap Service at LAX arrival. How do I avail this service? will this service be available at the baggage claim? travelling with two kids (4y and 1y) and 5 big check in bags+stroller. Thx Pk

You have to hope one will be there and available in the baggage claim when you need one. They are not provided by the airlines or airport - they work for themselves.

I am travelling from Sydney Australia going to Minneapolis with layover in LAX. Where do I get process for customs LAX or Minneapolis? Do I need to re-checked in for my connecting flight to Minneapolis?

If you bought your flights for both legs of the journey on one ticket, you will only need to re-check in your bags after customs clearance where indicated. If not you would have to take your bags along to the connecting terminal & check it in there. For transfer & terminal info, I suggest you open, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

You will go through US Immigration and Customs in LAX. I Can help you further with the process if you let us know what airlines you are flying?

Thank you for the reply guys. I am flying Delta Airlines Sydney to Minneapolis. So does this mean I am going to go through customs clearance in LAX and not Minneapolis? Thanks...Cheers!

Yes, you will go through US Customs and Immigration in LAX, not Minneapolis.

  • YYZ to LAX to KOA. American Airlines

Hello. Once we land and leave from T4. Can we leave T4 without having to go through Customs? If so, where are we able to go in the airport? Thank you for your help.

Go through U.S. customs clearance at YYZ, whereupon you will be treated at LAX as 'domestic arrival'. You arrive & depart from Terminal 4, which has gates 42-49.

We are flying NZ2 arriving LAX 2.45pm and connecting AC1885 departing 6.20pm. this is our first time to Canada and the US. My question are - do we have to do passport control and customs at LAX? Also do we have to change terminals at LAX?

Yes, if you are travelling in the next few months you will arrive in Terminal 2, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags, then you will go up to the departure level and go through security and to your departure gate which will also be in Terminal 2. If you are traveling in several or more months, ANZ will have moved to the International Terminal, so after re-checking your bags you will have to walk from the International Terminal to T2. In either instance you should have plenty of time.

As you travel at non-rush hour between Terminals T4 (Singapore) and T8 (US Airways) one hour transfer should suffice if incoming flight is on time. After arrival and passport check, head for the 'Airline Terminals Train' (follow signs) which runs between all terminals, but counter-clockwise (next stops T2/3, T1, T8), runs about every 10 mins and takes about 8 mins -and you need to go through security check at T8 before proceeding to your connecting gate. T8 has Concourse B with gate 1-16, while near its gate 14 is access to Concourse C with gates 31-47.

I think it will be very difficult to make your connection on-time. You will absolutely have to check in online for your US Airways flight before you depart Europe. By the time you get to T8, it will be definitely past the check-in cutoff.
