  • Immigration Terminal 3?

My son is travelling from SFO to LAX and connecting to a Virgin flight to Brisbane, AU. He arrives terminal 5 and the VA flight leaves from terminal 3... can he clear immigration in Terminal 3 or does he have to do this at TBTT? Also, should he check his bags in first (with Virgin)?

  • Prepaid SIM Cards

Hi! Are prepaid SIM cards available at the LAX airport/? I'm coming in from an international flight and will be connecting to a domestic flight to Seattle and won't have time to go out to buy one. It would be the best if i can get one at the airport. Thanks!

Prepaid SIM sales are not common in the US as most US phones are carrier locked. You might want to order one before you leave or stop at a Walmart or Target once you get to Seattle to buy a US phone.

What is the fastest way to get from Terminal 5 to Terminal 4? I have a Delta flight arriving in Terminal 5 and I'm meeting a friend in Terminal 4 returning on American.

Just walk along the lower level curbfront. It should take less than 5 minutes.

  • Sydney to Toronto via LAX help

My daughter is flying from Sydney, AU to Toronto via LAX on Qantas. She has a Canadian passport. Will she have to claim her bags in LAX and clear immigration there or can she just go to her gate in LAX for her Toronto flight and clear Canadian customs and immigration?

In LAX, she will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US customs, re-check her bags at the transfer desk, then, if her flight is operated by American Airlines (Qantas does not fly from LAX to Toronto), she will have to walk to Terminal 4 (the building next to the International Terminal), go through security and to her departure gate. She will go through Canadian Immigration and Customs when she gets to Toronto.

  • Air NZ connecting to UA

Hi, I am arriving from Auckland to LAX arriving at 1045 and have separate UA flight to JFK at 1305. Is this enough connecting time

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Since both airlines are in Star Alliance you can show your United confirmation to the agent in AKL and they may tag your bags through to JFK, then you will just have to re-check them after clearing customs and not have to take them with you to Terminal 7 and pay checked bag fees.

  • Intl Flights - Terminal 2 to Terminal B

I'm flying into Terminal 2 at LAX from Mexico, and then my international connecting flight is out of Tom Bradley Intl Terminal (B) on Korean Air. Will I need to go through immigration a second time to get to my connecting flight in Terminal B or not?

When you arrive in Terminal 2, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs. if your bags are tagged through to Korean you can then immediately re-check them, otherwise you will have to bring them with you to the TBIT. In the TBIT you will get your Korean boarding pass if you don't already have it, and go through security. There is no separate US Customs process when leaving the US.

  • How long does it take get out of the airport?

If my plane arrives at LAX at 10:25am will there be enough time to pick up my rental at the airport and catch a hollywood tour that starts at 12:30pm? How long does it usually take to leave the airport?

I really doubt it. The roads around LAX are a crowded mess and it usually takes quite awhile to get your rental car, then during mid-day it takes about an hour at least to get to hollywood then you have to park, which is not easy.

Do I have to go back through security in order to go from Terminal 1 to TBIT at LAX? If so, how long does it usually take on a Wednesday or normal day? Thanks!

Yes, you will have to go through security in the TBIT. If you have checked bags you will also have to claim them from Southwest in T1 and bring them with you to the TBIT to re-check. Security lines in the TBIT are generally not too bad (5-10 minutes, but varies greatly by time of day).

Is a two hour layover between flights at T1 to TBIT enough time to get thru custome & catch connection?

Hi, I am arriving on AA (operated by JAL) at 11.40 AM from Tokyo. My connecting flight is on AA (operated by mesa airlines as american eagle) to phoenix at 02.05 PM. Should I go through immigration and would i have enough time to catch the flight to PHX? thanks (first time being in the u.s.)

Yes, upon arrival in LAX you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go to Terminal 4, go through security, then you will likely have to take the shuttle bus to the American Eagle satellite terminal. You barely have enough time.

wow okay now I'm worried. Any suggestions to speed things up?

but the jal flight and the mesa air flight is within one reservation. Wouldn't they transfer the bags for me?

They do transfer your bags for you - from the re-check desk in the International Terminal to your Mesa flight. You have to claim your bags to go through US Customs when entering the United States. There's really nothing you can do to speed up the process other than not wasting any time and moving as quickly as you can.

    Thank you!

Walking distance from terminal 2 to terminal 7. Is 3 hours enough time to reach terminal 7 by walking. First time at LAX. Arriving from Toronto. Connecting at terminal 7 to Santa Barbara. Thanx.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. If you walk straight across the parking garages you can walk from T2 to T7 in less than 10 minutes. You can also take the shuttle bus on the lower level. that might take 20 minutes.

    Thank you.

I'm not familiar with any place named "Buellton". Also, no flights from Toronto to LAX arrive in Terminal 3. What airlines are you flying?

I will be arriving from Italy at 9:03 pm. Will I be able to clear customs and catch a flight to Mexico that takes off at 12:50am?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Our daughter will be flying in to LAX terminal B on Qantas at 0630 on a Saturday. I need to book her flight home to HOU. Southwest has a 10:20 am flight. Even if the flight is slightly delayed, do you think almost 4 hours gives her time to clear customs, recheck bags and get to Terminal 1? I was hoping customs would not be very busy at 0630 on a Saturday....

Yes, 4 hours should be enough time to make the transfer. She will have to take her bags with her to Terminal 1. If she drops her bags at the re-check desk in the international terminal, they will be lost.

Oh that is good to know. Thanks so much for your help!!

My daughter is flying from Montreal to Lax to catch her flight to Sydney. Does she have to get her bags at Lax and recheck them? Customs ?? she is a Us citizen . Montreal is closer to Us than Boston

She will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal. She will not have to go through Immigration in LAX. If you tell me what airlines she is flying and if all her flights are on one reservation or not I can help you more with terminals/

aircanada to Lax then Quantas to Brisbane. Thank you

She will have to go from Terminal 2 to the International Terminal. If purchasing separate tickets I would recommend 2 hours between flights.
