  • SFO to Dusseldorf via LAX with 2 hours layover

Hi Helpful Advisor(s), 1) I will be traveling on one reservation and will arrive in LAX Terminal 2 from SFO with American Airlines and then will be taking Air Berlin flight from Terminal B in 2 hours. Is this doable ? 2)Am I expected to pass customs in SFO or in LAX? Thank you very much. Appreciate your feedback.

American Airlines does not use Terminal 2 at LAX. You will arrive in Terminal 4 or 6. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If both tickets are on the same reservation all you have to do at LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • how far in advance of Aer Lingus flight time to arrive at LAX?

The flight leaves at 7:30 p.m. We live in LA. What time should we plan to be at LAX?

Plan on getting to the airport at about 5:30

I forgot to specify that it's an international flight, LAX to Dublin. Do you think I should get there any earlier than 5:30 p.m.?

If it makes you feel better to get there earlier, go ahead, but I don't think you have to. Departing on an International flight isn't really different than departing on a domestic flight. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US.

Hi all, Need some help. Might flight from london arrives at LAX 12:55pm. I've got a connecting flight to Vegas at 15:20. Does this leave enough time to clear Immigration security etc?? Thanks

What airlines are you flying? Are your tickets on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

2 separate. BA, then Virgin America.

  • Connecting flight (but not)

My return flight to the US is from Sydney > LAX > DEN > ATL (it was a really cheap flight and part of a deal). I'm planning to exit the airport at LAX, but if I check my luggage at Sydney, will it be checked to the final destination - at ATL? Or am I able to pick it up at baggage claim at LAX and exit the airport with it? I was told that when traveling back to the states from an international flight, you always have to pick up your luggage and recheck it for your next connecting flight(s) to the final destination. Is this true? Any advice is appreciated!

Yes, you will have to claim your bags in LAX to go through US Customs. Once you clear customs you can rip the tags off and go through the normal passenger exit and not the route for connecting passengers.

new traveler here, if i go from SYD > LAX > DTW using the same airline (delta) would i need to re check luggage as i arrive in LAX or will it go straight through to DTW? also, on the flight back, DTW > LAX >SYD, would 57min layover be enough time to catch the connection flight from LAX > SYD?

Yes, in LAX you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go to Terminal 5 and go through security. On the return all you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal 5. You have enough time.

My wife and son are flying from Tokyo to LAX. I was wondering if there is of any service that this airport can provide for them on carrying their baggage to custom for their connecting flight to Sacramento. My son is an infant.

No, but there are free luggage carts in the international baggage hall.

You can arrange for wheel chair assistance which carries their baggage and help them as needed

  • Is 90mins long enough?

Hi I am flying with American Airlines from JFK to LAX arriving at 9.23pm and departing from LAX to Auckland with American Airlines at 10.55pm I am concerned that 90mins may not be long enough....thoughts??? Do I have to clear customs? I imagine as it is on the same ticket that my luggage will be checked all the way through to Auckland? HELP please :)

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in LAX is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Will I have enough time from an American Airlines to an American Airlines flight in under 40 minutes an not have trouble finding my connecting flight

That should be just enough time if your first flight is on-time.

I am flying from LAX to Montreal ( direct flight) on AIr Canda and returning on a direct flight from Montreal to LAX. My flight leaves LAX at 11:45 on a Wednesday, how much time will I need to check in? Thank you

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. I suggest arriving 90-120 minutes before your flight. (closer to 120 if you have checked bags).

Traveling from Cabo San Lucas to Kona. Arrive 2:25 on Alaska at LAX and depart at 4:00pm on United. Is that enough time to clear customs and get to flight?

No, that is not realistically enough time, especially if you have checked baggage.

  • How early to book on Southwest

We'll be leaving from LAX to Gatwick, London on Norwegian Air. That flight departs at 7:30 PM this coming Thursday. We'll be coming into LAX on Southwest from Sacramento. How much is the safest amount of time to allow in between these flights? We're inexperienced flyers, fyi.

I would want to arrive by at LEAST 4:30 PM.

I am arriving from Minneapolis on spirit airlines which I believe is terminal 3, and leaving for Tokyo narita through terminal 4, I will have 2hours and 25 minutes, no checked bags from MSP to LAX, do I have to go through security again? I'm assuming yes. is this enough time?

Yes, you will have to go through security again. You should have enough time if your Spirit flight is on-time.

  • 35 m Layover to Maui
    Jun 23, 2016

Hi traveling from KC to LAX to Maui. Delta has a 35 m layover. Think it's feasible?

It's possible, it obviously leaves no time to spare if the flight from KC is delayed at all.

hi..traveling from portland oregon on alaska to lax..then going to bradley for an air france flight to paris...they are separate tickets but sister ailrines so they said they would check bags thru to af flight...can I stay inside security to tb without going thru checkpoints and security again..thanks

Yes, if your bags are checked through to Paris then there now is a way to get from T6 to the TBIT inside security - you take a tunnel to T4 through T5 and then take a new connector walkway to the TBIT.

you are awesome....one more question for the pdx to lax to tb...the day before if we check into af online and print boarding pass and go thru terminals to connector...do we have to check in with air france at all? or is it best to do it anyways and check in again at desk?

You should try to check in with Air France online. If you fully check-in online and have a boarding pass there's no reason you have to go to the Air France counter at LAX.

  • Meeting family at different arrival times

I am arriving LAX from AUK via Air New Zealand. Assuming the arrival will be terminal B. My daughter with 2 toddlers, will be arriving one hour earlier from South Africa via Emirates. Where is the best place to meet ? Would it be wise to wait in customs until I arrive or would that even be in same terminal since I believe Emirates is in terminal 3?

Emirates is not in Terminal 3. The Emirates flight will also arrive in the International Terminal. I would meet at the exit of customs.

    Thanks for advice. MAM
