McAllen Miller MFE Airport Overview

McAllen International Airport MFE is the primary business airport of the Rio Grande Valley in Deep South Texas and Northeast Mexico. The Rio Grande Valley is a culturally rich and diverse area stretching from Roma to Brownsville.

The Airport is located two miles from midtown McAllen, Texas, a quarter mile from Expressway 83, between 10th Street and Cicentennial Blvd., and within walking distance from hotels, the valley's largest mall, and numerous restaurants; it is also only 7 miles from Reynosa, Mexico, accessible via three international bridges.

With an estimated 630,700 passengers in 2012,  McAllen International Airport is served by Allegiant, American, & United airlines offering direct flights to Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, & Orlando-Sanford, with connections around the world.

The passenger terminal at McAllen International Airport offers wireless internet access, a business center, shoeshine, rental car counters, a gift and duty-free shop, a CNBC store, and a number of food & drink establishments. Note that this terminal is currently undergoing drastic renovation & expansion work, to be completed by Spring 2014.

Parking options at McAllen International Airport include short-term, long-term and economy parking lots (all within wwaking distance of the terminal) - all offer 30 minutes free parking, ideal if you need to pick up a passenger at the Airport.  Fees are to be paid by Mastercard, Visa or Amex at Pay-on-Foot booths. inside the arrivals area of the passenger terminal.

Rental car counters for major agencies are located in the Arrivals area of the passenger terminal.  Budget and Thrifty have off-site facilities with shuttle service.

To get from McAllen International Airport to your destination, you can rent a car, take a taxi or a bus:
Valley Transit (VTC offers shuttleservice (tel. 956--423-5467 or 866 WEGOVTC.
The McAllen Express Transit MET bus (tel. 800-574-8322 or 956-688-3500): The large Central Station located downtown McAllen, between 15th & 16th Street on highway 83.  For schedule & routes visit mcallen.net/bus/schedule.aspx.

Present & future Airport developments: Construction on the terminal expansion project began in July 2012 and involves:
1. At the passenger terminal:  Adding  another gate;  a 7,400 sq.ft, one-level addition at its west end for checked baggage screening and baggage handling system expansion; renovate 11,200 sq.feet at east end for lobby, security screening, TSA offices & concessions; construct 2-level addition of 33,000 sq.ft at south end for boarding gates, boarding bridges, holdrooms, restrooms, concessions, & more;  renovate 5,000 sq.feet at south end for boarding gates & holdroom - all to be tentatively completed by Spring 2014.
2. Terminal Area Apron improvement & expansion - also to be tentatively completed by Spring 2014.
