- BFL Airport Overview
Meadows Field BFL airport is located approximately seven miles north of the City of Bakersfield, in Kern County, California. Highway 99 and Seventh Standard Road provide the most direct access to the passenger terminal. The airport is approximately 1,400 acres in size. The passenger terminal is open from 4:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. daily. Geographically speaking, Kern County is the third largest county in California - larger than Delaware, Rhode Island and Connecticut combined.
Bakersfield airport BFL is situated at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley and stretches east to the Sierra Nevada Mountains and south to the Mojave Desert. The airport is served by a few major and commuter airlines providing flights to hundreds of domestic and international destinations. Meadows Field Airport is investing heavily in its infra-strucutre. The previous passenger terminal, located at 1401 Skyway Drive (near Highway 99 and Seventh Standard Road) is in the process of being converted to an international terminal.
In September 2008 it was announced that the Airport Administration is implementing more efficient ways in terms of energy savings, airfield improvements and strategic partnerships, which will greatly benefit the airport and its visitors.
