Merida Rejon MID Airport Overview
Merida Rejon Airport MID serves the Mexican State of Yucatan and its capital city Merida. Its Area Control Center (Centro Merida) controls air traffic over the southeastern part of the country. Open 24/7, Merida Airport handles domestic & international flights with carriers as large as Boeing 747s & 777s. Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, ASUR, is the Airport's operator.
The Airport is located in the southern edge of the city of Merida, which was founded in 1542 and is close to the famous Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza and Uxmal.
Directions to the Airport: (a) Calle 59 from City center, turning left onto Avenida Itzaes (at El Centenaro zoo), takes you right to the Airport entrance. From the city's circle road Anillo Periferico, take the Avenida Itzaes exit. (b) Coming from Progreso and heading towards Merida, you will enter the Periferico circle road where signs will direct you to Celestun or Campeche - follow it down to the south end of the city and look for the Uman exit - go in the opposite direction north, passing under the overpass - and onto Av. Aviacion; the Airport is to your right.
With 2 long runways and over 1.2 million passengers in 2012, Merida Rejon Airport is served by a number of domestic airlines offering direct flights to destinations within Mexico, while United Airlines offers direct flights to Houston Intercontinental with connections around the world.
The passenger terminal at Merida Rejon Airport houses Concourses A & B with their respective departure gates.
Services and amenities inside the passenger terminal include a Tourist Information Center, Santander Serfin banking, food & drink establishments, specialty & convenience stores, duty-free stores, and rental car counters.
Parking at Merida Rejon Airport is available at the parking lot across from the passenger terminal and offers short- and long-term parking.
To get from Merida Rejon Airport to your destination you can rent a car, take a taxi or a shared-ride minivan. Approximate Taxi & van fares: into city center 140 - 200 pesos; to Mewrida Colonias 160-250 pesos; to Progreso 500--600 pesos; Reef Club 700-850 pesos; Chichen Itza 950-1200 pesos; Uxmal 700-850 pesos; Eco Pariso 1,050-1,200 pesos.
There is a public bus to the Merida bus depot, which requires you to walk from the terminal to the main road - a long walk.
If you need to get to Campeche, the best way to tavel is to take a taxi from the Airport to the CAME bus depot on Calle 70 (between 69 & 71). Buses run every half hour, take 2 hrs 20 mins. and cost about 152-180pesos for first or deluxe class (not that there are 2 separate bus depots on Calle 70).
