  • connecting internationally from Amsterdam
    Apr 5, 2016
I may arrive to Miami from Amsterdam with AA in june.. via technical landing in Philly. European citizen, and i will connect to Barranquilla (Colombia) the next day. Also with AA, do i need to claim baggage for the night? do i need to pass security when connecting internationally? and how complicated will that be?

In Philadelphia you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through Us Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security, and to your departure gate. In Miami all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thanks for claryfying answer

  • Re-check bag in Miami?
    Mar 31, 2016
I am traveling from Nicaragua to Washington, DC, via Miami. In Miami do I need to collect my bag & re-check it? I have heard both answers so I want to clarify.

Yes, when you arrive to the USA, from any country, you have to go through Immigration, then claim your bags and go through Customs. After that you are basically on the street out of the safe zone, so you have to recheck your bags. Some airlines will take them right away out of Customs, some other airline require you to go back to the checkin counter. Exception: Canada, you do immigration and customs at the Canadian airport so you arrive domestic to the USA

I am flying into MIA from CUR (curacao) for only 1:45 and then taking WESTJET to Toronto. Do i have to collect my baggage and clear customs and recheck it or will it be transferred for me to the next flight? If I need to do it myself, is 1 and a half hours enough time to clear customs and make my next flight? Thank you!

Were both of your tickets purchased on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

Arriving in MIA from Antigua coming off vactation, have 2:33 mins to make connecting flight to Charlotte, have a couple suitcases. Will that be enough time? Will be on 11/26, thinking that's cutting close due to Thanksgiving.

    That should be enough time.

  • Flying from Chicago to Miami
    Dec 25, 2014
Hi, I was flying on AA from Chicago to Trinidad and I was told twice in Chicago and twice in Miami that I did not have to go through customs and recheck my bag and that my bag was checked all the way through. I had an overnight stay in Miami and so I went to baggage claim just to make sure. My bags were not there. I am in Trinidad now and my bags are NOT here. Was I supposed to go and collect my bags and then transfer it across like I had done for years? Did 4 people get it wrong? Is there a chance I will get my bags back?

Overnight connections are a crapshoot. Your bags are probably still in Miami. If they didn't come out on the carousel there was nothing you could do. Contact AA.

  • Do you have to collect your baggage?
    Nov 30, 2014
Hi, I am arriving in Miami International Airport from Dallas (originally from South Korea) at 10:36 pm on Dec. 3, 2014 and leaving for Grand Cayman the next morning at 11:20 am. I am going to stay at a hotel inside the airport. Do I need to collect my baggage and go through immigration, customs and everything at Miami arirport? Please let me know. Thank you!

All international arrivals in the U.S. will need to go through the immigration process - in your case it will be at Dallas AP. If you bought your flights on one ticket your bags will automatically be transferred, if not, check with your airline.

  • Aa from San Juan to MiA then London
    Jun 11, 2014
I have an American Airlines flight from San Juan to Miami then onward with British Airways to London. Will my baggage be checked thru to London or do I need to collect and recheck at MiA. Also will I need Agriculture check at SJ?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs and then re-check your bags with US Airways at the re-check desk. Your bags will be tagged through to CLT in Doha (or your original point of origin) but you still have to do this. At that time of the morning your transfer should take 60-90 minutes.
