hello, Im flying from Port of Spain trinidad to LGA with a stop in MIA. Do you have to claim your baggage the re-check? I went through FLL and it took 3 hrs I was wondering if its as brutal in MIA or if US Airways can send your bags all the way to your final destination. My layover is 1hr 45mins and nervous about it.

Yes, in Miami you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk and go through security. You should have enough time.

With US customs happening in Toronto, will I have to get my luggage and recheck it in Miami or will it go straight through to Liberia? I only have a 1hr 15 minute layover and the luggage being check is my surfboard.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Miami on your way to Costa Rica is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

arriving at Miami on LAN Ecuador at 6:40 pm Sunday after a tour. We will connect to a AA flight to RDU that leaves at 9 pm. Two separate tickets. will this give us enough time to connect?

That should be enough time. If you show your AA confirmation to the LAN agent in Quito they may tag your bags through to RDU for you. Then you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk in Terminal J after clearing customs instead of having to take them with you to Terminal D to re-check with American.

Hi we are looking at booking flights from Cancun to Miami with AA and then Miami to London with BA. The flight bookings will be made separately to utilise airmiles/companion vouchers, will we have to check in again at Miami for our flight to London? Thanks

If they are two separate itineraries, yes, you will have to check in again in Miami. In that case I recommend at least 3 hours between flights.

I AM LOOKING AT 1:30 HR TO MAKE AA from BOS then LAN for UIO CONNECTION IN MIA . IS THIS ENOUGH TIME OR TOO CLOSE TO CALL?

It's possible if both tickets were bought on the same reservation but it doesn't leave much time to spare. You'll need to go from concourse D to concourse J and go through security. If you bought two separate reservations it is not enough time.

I'll be arriving at MIA from Barbados, on a AA flight, but I have a connection AA flight to catch to Minneapolis. I know that I have to clear immigration and customs and then re-check bags and clear security again. I have 1 hour and 41 minutes. Do I have enough time. I am a US citizen.

That should be barely enough time.

Travelling to NYC from Brasil via MIAMI, before booking a connecting flight, how much time should be given for transit? I believe I will have to pass the immig and collect luggage, etc.

I would want at least 2 hours.

i am flying American Airlines from Brasil to Miami...if I book the same airline, will i still need to checkout and checkin luggage?

If your tickets are bought on the same reservation then no. If you buy two separate reservations on the same airline, then you will need to ask the counter in NY to check your bags through to Brasil by showing your AA confirmation to Brasil. If you book another airline that is their alliance partner, such as TAM, they may tag them through to Brasil and they may not. If you book an airline that is not a partner, such as Gol they will not tag your bags through to Brasil and you will have to claim and re-check them.

we are flying from the UK to Punta Cana via Miami, do we need to collect our baggage in miami and go through imigration and customs then re check in ???

Since you are on an International to International connection you will not have to claim your bags in Miami but you will have to go through US Immigration and customs.

I have a 4+ hour layover in Miami. Flying in and out of Terminal D. I have a Lounge Club membership that will get me into Club America in F or the VIP Lounge in J. Can I walk between terminals without going through security? Which club is better?

You will have to exit security to use either of those lounges.

I'm a non US citizen considering booking a flight on the British Airways website from key west to barcelona with a connection in miami of 2hrs 51mins. From key west to miami it says executed by Republic Airlines As American Eagle and from miami to barcelona it says executed by American Airlines. Do I go through customs, security, passport control in miami? Do I have to collect my luggage in miami and re-check in? Thank you for the info.

No, all you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All American/American Eagle gates in Miami are connected inside security. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

Is a 2 hour connection time enough? What security will I have to go through?

You will arrive, go through US Immigration and Customs and security. You should not have to collect your bags since you are on an international to international connection. If you are a Trinidad or Peru citizen you will need a US Transit Visa.

Hi, I am a non-US citizen considering a flight from CLT to STT with 1 hour layover in MCO and MIA and all via AA. Is 1 hour layover in MCO enough - with or without checked bags?

Yes, that should be enough time.

I am a non-US citizen looking for a flight from CLT to STT with 43 minute layover in MIA. Is there enough time - with or without checked bags?

That is enough time, but leaves very little time to spare in case your flight into Miami is delayed.
