Hi, we are flying from LHR to MCO with a 1hr 35min connection time in MIA (arrive at MIA at 7:45pm). I know that we have to clear immigration and customs and then re-check our bags and clear security again....is this enough time??

That is likely barely enough time.

Hi, In August I will be travelling to Domincan Republic from London Heathrow with 2 connections in Philladelphia and Miami. The transfer times are 1hr 55 for PHL and 2.5 hrs in Miami. Is this enough time in each? Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time for both. In Philadelphia you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. In Miami all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Will I have enough time to connect flights? Details of both flights connecting in Miami are ... Outbound I arrive in Miami from LHR BA flight at 14:55 - then going on to San Jose departing 18:56. Going back from San Jose arrive at Miami at 18.12 and flight to London 20.40. Is this too tight and will bags be checked right through? Thank you!

You have plenty of time on your way to San Jose but not much coming back. Your bags will be tagged through to your final destination both ways. You should not have to claim them to go through Customs in Miami because you are on an International to International connection but confirm that with agents in London, San Jose, and Miami.

Hi, Im french citizen, i will be flying with AA from Paris to Cancun with a stop in miami (both flights with same company), do we have to go through customs, and check the bags again? or can we walk directly to our connecting flight? Thanks

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs and security, however you should not have to claim your bag as you are on an international to international connection. However, please confirm that with the agents in Paris and Miami.

Traveling to St. Lucia from Ohare connecting in Miami. We have a 1 hour lay over will this be enough time to make it to the connecting flight is there any customs that we will need to go through? On the way back from St. Lucia - MIA- ORD we have a 1 hour and 40 minute lay over is that enough time?

You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Miami on your way to St. Lucia is to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate - so you should have enough time. On the way back you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security in Miami. You will probably barely have enough time. If you do miss your connection there, at least AA flies lots of MIA-ORD flights.

Thank you very much for your reply! Yeah I'm more worried about getting out on time then getting back on time ;)

Flying with either British Airways or American Airlines and have a 2 hour gap from landing at Mimi and then the next flight to Provo leaving. Enough time to clear customs and get the next plane? Or as we are in transit is there no customs until we arrive in Provo?

That should be enough time, barely. You will have to go through US Immigration and Customs but should not have to claim your bags since you are on an International to International connection, but confirm that with the agents in London and Miami.

Hi, i am an UK citizen and flying from Cancun to Newark via Miami. I need to claim baggage and Custom clearance at Miami and I have 1hr 35 min between two AA flights. Can anyone tell me if the time is enough. Thanks in advance.

Yes, that should be barely enough time.

I have a 90 minute change of planes (but not change of airlines) in Miami then traveling to final destination in Aruba. Is this enough time? Normally do you need to get your baggage and recheck in? I believe customs isn't an issue until you arrive in Aruba.

That is correct. You just need to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Miami, both ways. Aruba has US Immigration and Customs preclearance on your return trip.

Same question as most of the others, UK Citizen travelling with AA all the way with only 1:45 between the 2 flights (on a saturday) will I have time barring a flight delay. Cheers Peeps

That should barely be enough time. Since you are on an international to international connection, you shouldn't have to claim and re-check your baggage, but confirm that witht he agents in London and Miami.

We fly through Miami from grand cayman on a monday in march. Is 1.5 hours enough for the layover time?

just to add, we will need to clear customs in Miami, then continue on a domestic flight to JFK. How much time do we need for customs on a typical Monday in March?

That should barely be enough time assuming everything goes smoothly. Fortunately if you do miss your connection AA flies many flights from Miami to NYC.

Hello, We are flying to Toronto from Key West via Miami. I believe we arrive at terminal D and leave from terminal F. Our bags will be checked through. Will we have clear security or can we get between terminals without doing that? Many thanks!

All American and American Eagle gates are connected inside security. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, no security.

We are UK citizens and will be flying into Miami from Cancun and flying onto Barbados. How long would you recommend it takes to clear immigration, reclaim baggage etc.

In Miami, I would recommend at least 2 hours.

Hello, I am flying from Chicago-O'Hare to Miami, to Grand Cayman. Initially, I had a two hour layover in Miami before departing for Grand Cayman. However, AA changed the flight time to a departure an hour earlier, so the layover is only an hour. I am worried I will now miss the flight to Cayman from Miami, especially if I will have to re-check my luggage and/or go through security again.

On your way to Grand Cayman you do not have to go through security or do anything with your luggage in Miami. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. you will have enough time if your flight from Chicago is on-time.

    Sounds great thank you!

Hi, we have an upcoming flight from Toronto to Bridgetown via Miami. All flights on the same ticket and purchased at the same time. On arrival in Miami from Toronto will we need to collect our checked bag then recheck it with the transfer desk? On the return from Bridgetown I assume we will need to clear US customs on arrival in Miami? I also assume we will need to collect our bags and recheck them with the transfer desk? Thanks in Advance.

On your way from Toronto you will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto and only need to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Miami. On your return you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in Miami, but you should not have to claim your bags since you are on an International to International connection, but confirm that with the AA agents in Bridgetown and Miami.

Hi, thanks for the information. Flight was booked through British Airways but we have a full American Airlines itinerary. We will confirm for the return journey.

My husband is on his way from Madrid and has a connecting flight in MIA. His flight was delayed by almost 2 hours so he will not arrive until around 4pm-415. He has a 620 flight to Key West. do you think he will make his connection

There's a good chance he can still make it. If he does miss it there is a 9:25 PM flight to Key West.
