In March 2015 my family will be travelling from LHR to PLC via MIA. Our flight from LHR is scheduled to arrive at MIA at 17.15hrs. Our connecting flight to PLS (Turks&Caicos Islands) is scheduled to departs MIA at 18.55hrs. Both flights are booked with American Airlines. Will there be enough time to catch the flight to PLS?

Yes, and while you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs, as an International to International connection, you will not have to collect your bags and re-check them.

Where is terminal 3 if you look at the map?

Miami does not have a Terminal 3. What airline or airlines are you flying?

We comes with norwegian on sunday 2 nov at 8 pm

No sorry, it is when we leaving on thusday 13 nov with norwegian, from terminal 3 says the ticket :-/

Norwegian does not fly to Miami International Airport. They fly to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, about 30 km north.

i am a Phillipine citizen with a visit visa to Bahamas with 12hr layover at MIA; can i leave the airport and stay in a hotel ? Must i clear custom or immigration just to go to hotel for the 12hr layover?

    1. For terminal layout, international arrivals procedure & transfers, open www.ifly.com/mia; then click on 'Terminal Map' under QUICK LINKS & scroll down to the detailed text. 2. The Philippines are not part of the Visa-Waiver countries - therefore, I suggest you open: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/visit/visa-waiver-program.html

You will need a US Transit Visa. Once you clear US Customs you will be outside security and free to go where you want as long as you board your scheduled flight to the Bahamas. You will have to go through Customs and Immigration upon arrival in the US, whether you are going to a hotel or not.

  • Connecting Flight In MIA

My husband I have never flown internationally. We have a connecting flight in MIA from ATL to Punta Cana, DR. Our flight lands in MIA from ATL at 8:50 AM and departs from MIA to PUJ at 9:51. Will we have time to make our connecting flight? Will we have to go through customs or any security checkpoints leaving MIA?

Both flights are on American Airlines.

You do not go through US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

We are arriving MIA at 11:31am with a connection to GCM at 12:30pm. I saw in a previous post our baggage will be checked through. But will this one-hour layover allow us enough time to reach the gate for our connecting flight?

Yes, that should be enough time assuming both flights are on American or American Eagle. All AA gates are connected inside security at MIA.

Is there a security checkpoint if you are walking from concourse D to E or E to D for departing flights? American Airlines has flights departing in both concourses and I was wondering if I will have to go through security if I have to switch terminals.

There is a walkway inside security between D and E.

I will be arriving from Milan to Miami on AA and connecting on another AA flight to Grand Cayman. Do I need to do immigration and transfer my luggage?

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags, and go through security.

  • Flying from LHR - via MIA - to SDQ

Hello I am flying American Airlines from London Heathrow to Santo Domingo via Miami. Both flights are AA and I have been told I can check the bags straight through. I've just read that Miami have put in a new customs/ arrivals area that will enable quicker flight connections. Do I still need to collect bags? I am also travelling business. For the outbound flight I have 2hrs 45mins to connect but for the return flight I have only 2hrs 5mins. Also the return is with American Airlines, but then British Airways back to LHR on a codes fare flight. Grateful for your advice. I am a Brit.

Your bags will be tagged through to SDQ but you will have to ask American whether you have to claim them or not. If you do have to claim them you just claim them, walk through customs, and then re-check them with American immediately after.

  • AA flights connections

Hi, I'll be arriving in Miami from Argentina in an AA flight and 2 1/2 hours later I have another flight to my final destination in Cancun, also with AA. I would probably check a bag in Argentina to get it in Cancun. Will AA let me do that or will I have to pick up my bag and go through the check in again even if I'm flying with the same airline? I understand I might have to pass through custums but Is there a transit area for passengers connecting with the same airline? Would you recommend taking a carry on instead of checking a bag for this trip to Cancun via Miami? Thank you!

Yes, you will have to claim your bag to go through US Customs in Miami, and yes, you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in Miami. You should have enough time even with a checked bag, but if you do want to save some time, only taking a carry-on will save you some time in your connection.

    Thank you!!

I will be flying from Lima to Miami with AA and have more than 6 hours before my connecting flight to Frankfurt with LH. 1. Will I have to claim my luggage and re-check? 2. Can I re-check my luggage immediately, or will I sit there with my suitcases for a few hours?

Yes, you will have to claim your baggage to go through US Customs. if your bags are tagged through to your final destination you can then immediately re-check them. However, if they are not you will have to take them with you to the Lufthansa check-in counter and check them there when it opens.

  • Terminal E to Terminal D

I arrive at 955am on Cayman Air and my AA flight leaves at 1115 in terminal D. Do I have time to get there?

No, that is insufficient time for such a connection.

Without luggage, only carry on, how long should that connection take?

With carry-on only it's maybe possible in 80 minutes. It's really pushing it, but it might be possible. It really depends on how bad the lines at immigration are. You'll definitely have to check in online for your AA flight before leaving the Cayman Islands.

  • Swiss air to AA with 2h 15min layover

Hi, I have been reading all the comments about transferring from one airline to another and so far i think i am getting a good knowledge of what i need to do from when we land at Miami from Zurich with Swiss (arrive 14.35) and then catch out connecting flight with AA to Grenada (depart 16.55). Swiss will arrive from the south terminal (J) and then we have to go through passport control, collect our bags and go through customs then once we have cleared customs re check in our bags then head for the North terminal (D) to catch our connecting flight. Is this correct? I am just unsure about the re check in of the bags... is there an AA desk near by customs that will take our luggage for check in? I have heard that with the automated passport control things are going alot better so can you give me you thoughts on if we can make it in 2hrs and 15? BTW this is a great site. Lots of very useful information and i am tempted to buy the app. Many thanks Cakemama

Yes, you have it right, there is a re-check desk just after you exit customs. You should have enough time.

    Thanks so much!
