I am travelling from Barranquilla on Flight AA1124 to Istambul on TK78. I hold a C1D viza. Will I need to clear Immigration or will I be checked in thru from BAQ to IST. If i need to do customs & immigration is 3 hrs sufficient.

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration and customs. 3 hours should be just enough time.

  • LPB - MIA - DFW: 2 hrs and 13 mins
    Feb 17, 2016
I am wondering if 2hrs and 13mins is enough for immigration and everything at the Miami airport? I am using C-1 transit VISA to enter the US, for your information. Thanks for your time.

That should be barely enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that if you do miss your connection, AA has frequent flights from Miami to DFW.

  • Make connection: LHR - MIA - MBJ
    Feb 16, 2016
Am looking at flights to Jamaica (MBJ) from Copenhagen via London and I'm wondering if landing in MIA at 4.45 pm I will have enough time to catch a connecting flight to MBJ at 6.36 pm. It's on July 31st (a sunday), with american airlines (all the way). I usually always include at least 3 hours for a connection at MIA but at this particular occasion it's either this or a night layover in Charlotte (which am not very excited about), so I'm wondering if maybe I can make it after all...? I'm a Swedish citizen an have been to the US many times, so I have had ESTA. I will have it all in 1 reservation but I'll be traveling with checked baggage, so still have to pick it up through customs and drop it off. Thanks :)

That should be just enough time. Note that since it's international to international you may not have to claim your bags in Miami.

  • Enough Time For Connection?
    Feb 17, 2016
My wife and I are flying AA Boston to Guatemala, through Miami. AA has given us 45 minutes to make the Miami connection to Guatemala. Is this enough time?

Yes, that is just enough time if your flight from Boston is on-time. All you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thank you!

Flying American from Minnesota to MIA then to El Sal with only 45 mins connection. I understand is only to move from one gate to another one, however would both gates be in the same wing at the airport? .

American uses two wings, but they are connected inside security.

Hi, I am arriving with LX from Zurich at 2.30 om and have a connecting flight with DL to ATL at 6 pm. Is this enough time, considering immigration etc.? Thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time, even on two separate reservations.

  • NAS-MIA-LHR with BA
    Feb 15, 2016
Hi. I'm arriving from Nassau on Bahamas Air (G ?) and departing to London with British Airways (E?). How long do I need to allow for the connection ? Thanks,

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Nassau. However, if you're booking two separate reservations and have checked baggage I'd still want about 3 hours since Bahamasair isn't known for its punctuality and you will have to transfer your bags yourself to British Airways and go through security in Miami.

    Very helpful. Thanks,

I have 53 minutes to get from flight number AA4280 to AA1510, I think I am going to spend my entire holiday panicking about the connection time! we have to get to JFK as we have a British Airways flight to London (booked separately using miles) do you think a 53 minute connection in MIA is possible?

Yes, it is possible. All you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

And do you know if the gates will be near each other?

Probably not too close, but the AA area in Miami is large, but not that large compared to other airline hubs.

  • Bs. As. to Miami and then Miami to Cancun
    Mar 14, 2016
Hello. Im arriving miami 06:10 with my wife and children with TAM. I want to get a flight to Cancun with Aeromexico at 8:00. Two differents reservations and differentes airlines. Is this enought time? I have two luggage

With luggage and two separate reservations, no I don't think that's enough time.

    Ok. And without luggage?

Without luggage it might be enough time if you are able to check in for your Aeromexico flight on-time.

Ok!! So without luggage i can stay in transit?

No, you will still have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. There are no "in transit" international connections in the US.

Ok, But i dont understand what is the profit of traveling without luggage then. Do i gain time?

Yes, you will not have to wait to claim and re-check your bags.

Hi I am an Indonesian citizen holding a US business visa. I have a conference that will finish at 3pm and have to take an AA flight to Philly right after. I will arrive at the airport around 15:45, is that enough time to catch 16:27 flight?

  • Nassau-miami-europe help!
    Feb 15, 2016
Need urgent help! Having to return to Europe short notice I found air Berlin flight NAS-MIA-DUS. 2h18m layover in MIA will be enough? Immigration made me miss my inbound connection last week when arriving, do I run same risk? Please help, very urgent and phone can't call international numbers to ask directly. Thank you!!!!

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Nassau so you won't have to do it in Miami. That should be enough time.

Thank you so much sir, your reassurance was very helpful at a stressful time

  • connection from Avianca to AA
    Feb 15, 2016
Hi, I'm flying with Avianca to Miami arriving at 1pm and then from MIA to Raleigh at 3:30pm, just with carry-on luggage. Would that be enough time to make the connection.

Yes, if your Avianca flight is on-time and you are already checked in for your AA flight I think that is just about enough time with no checked bags.

  • Flying in from Punta cana
    Feb 14, 2016
Flying into Miami International from Punta Cana with AA., same reservation. Will I have enough time to clear customs, no checked bags with a 2 and 1/2 hour layover until my next flight?

Yes, that should be enough time with no checked bags.

  • terminal connection needed
    Feb 8, 2016
Hi, a group of us plan to travel from Kuala lumpur to SJO (costa Rica), ETA MIA via Qutar at 16:40, ETD MIA via AA 18:54. Is 2 hrs 14 mins sufficient for this transit? appreciate help

That should be barely enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security.

Thanks Zap, The distance between terinals is also far!

  • time to connect international flight to national flight
    Feb 8, 2016
Arriving MIA on BA flight from London at 2PM and departing for SFO on AA at 5PM. Will I have to clear customs in MIA and recheck my bag - or can I check it through and clear customs in SFO? Two separate record locators - one with each airline.

Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs, then take your bags to the AA check-in desk to re-check your bags since you are on two separate reservations. Even if you were on one reservation you'd have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. You should have enough time.

  • Time to connect from international to national flight
    Feb 5, 2016
Arriving 7:30AM from Paraguay. Want to get flight to NY at 9%0 will that be enough time? This is in July.

9:00 AM? No, that would probably be too early, especially if it's two separate reservations. You need 3 hours if it's two separate reservations.

    Feb 5, 2016
I'm taking a flight from London to Miami (BA) and then another flight from Miami to NYC (AA). I've got 2:05 of transit time. Will this be enough? If it makes any difference, i'm travelling first class on both flights. Thank you.

Flying first class, that should be enough time.

Forgot to mention that i'm not an American citizen.

Yes, still should be enough time. if you are a repeat ESTA user you can use the kiosks like US Citizens.
