Arriving MIA from POP @ 5:50 pm connecting flight to IND at 7:25 pm. Both on AA. Is there enough time to pick up bags, clear customs, recheck bags and clear TSA?
That is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

After I get through customs does it takes a lots of minutes to get to AA desk to re-check?
I have 3 hours between my connection flights. I bought both tickets at AA separately because it was cheaper.
Can someone explain me the route? I don't know how long it will take to get through immigration and customs at miami international airport. In 2015 it was a nightmare. We arrived at the hotel almost after 4 hours.
I'm still traumatized.
I'm flying from the Caribbean to miami with AA and will take a connection flight with AA to orlando.
If you get your reservations joined together then you can use the re-check desk right after customs. If they are not tagged through to your final destination the AA check in desk is just upstairs.
Also, where in "the Caribbean" are you coming from?
I'm going to try that. My bookings have different booking numbers.
I'm flying from Curacao.
Thank you for your answer.
I'm flying from Freeport to Miami, then to Lisbon with 3:15 layover in MIA. First flight is on American Airlines, the second (MIA-LIS) is on TAP Portugal. Will I have enough time to make this connection on time?
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Freeport. All you have to do in Miami is claim your bags from AA and re-check them with TAP and go through security. You should have enough time.
ZAP, thank you for the information. But what you are saying is that I will not have to go through the Immigration in Miami?!? How is that possible?
Everybody has to go through immigration.
You will not go through Immigration in Miami because you will go through it in Freeport.
Thank you ZAP. I thought I had to go through Immigration in Miami regardless. Perfect.. 3 hours will be enough to make my connection. I appreciate it. Just one more question - Is the TAP Portugal gate far from AA arrival gate?
Yes, TAP is on the opposite side of the airport from American.
I'm flying from Mexico City (MEX) on May 17th to Miami (MIA) then on to London Heathrow (LHR) with 1h35 layover in MIA. Both flights are on American Airlines (AA1031 then AA38). Will I have to transfer myself my checked in baggage? And will I have enough time to transfer (with our without checked in baggage)?
Since it's an International to International connection all on AA then you don't have to claim your bags in Miami, but you do have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
We are flying Manchester to Grand Cayman 1st flight on Thomas Cook 2nd flight Cayman Airways all booked on one ticket through Thomas Cook. Will we have to collect luggage or will the bags go straight through to Grand Cayman?
Yes, you will have to claim your bags to take them through US Customs in Miami.
Hi ZAP, I'll arrive at 1.30pm and my next flight is with Jetairfly at 3:35pm but they've never leave on time. Do you think I can make it? No checked baggage and I have to check in at counter
With no checked luggage you have the slightest of chances. You'll have to go all the way across the airport from the American gates where you arrive to the JetairFly check-in counter.
FLIGHT 1274 IN FROM BOS AND FLIGHT 2554 out to Belize is 55 minutes enough time to make the connection??? Both are American flights. Thank You in advance
Yes, that is enough time if the first flight is on-time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Hi iim arriving from Cayman on AA connecting to a BA flight to London - I have 90 mins is that enough time
No, that is not enough time. Cayman Airways flights are on virtually the opposite side of the airport from BA. You will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, take your bags across the airport, re-check them with BA, and go through security.
Sorry, I didn't realize you were flying AA FROM the Cayman Islands. In that case you do have a chance but it is still a VERY difficult connection.
Hi, I arrive in Miami at Gate E9 and have connecting flight 1hr later that departs D47. Will I need to reclear security? Is this enough time?
sorry, both flights are on AA
All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is a walkway between D and E inside security. You should have enough time.
I'm flying from Pittsburgh (PIT) to MIA, then from MIA out of the country to Costa Rica (SJO) on May 27. I have yet to book my flight, but there are layovers ranging from 1 hr 20 mins to 3-4 hrs. I've never flown out of the country before; what's the minimum time my layover should be in order to get through customs etc? Is 1 hr & 20 mins too short? Not sure how big the airport is
There is no US Customs when leaving the US. If both flights are on American and on the same reservation then 1 hr 20 mins is possible. All you have to do in Miami on the way to Costa Rica is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
Thanks for the info! I have some more specific gate information: I'll be arriving to "AA 4632, E75-Embraer RJ-175" and flying back out from "AA 1153 738-Boeing 737" 1 hour and 20 minutes later. I'm not sure how the gates work or if they are close; can you tell me if 1 hour and 20 minutes is still possible or very likely? Thanks!
