Hi, a group of us plan to travel from Kuala lumpur to SJO (costa Rica), ETA MIA via Qutar at 16:40, ETD MIA via AA 18:54. Is 2 hrs 14 mins sufficient for this transit? appreciate help

That should be barely enough time if everything goes smoothly. Note that you will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security.

Thanks Zap, The distance between terinals is also far!

  • time to connect international flight to national flight

Arriving MIA on BA flight from London at 2PM and departing for SFO on AA at 5PM. Will I have to clear customs in MIA and recheck my bag - or can I check it through and clear customs in SFO? Two separate record locators - one with each airline.

Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags and go through US Customs, then take your bags to the AA check-in desk to re-check your bags since you are on two separate reservations. Even if you were on one reservation you'd have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. You should have enough time.

  • Time to connect from international to national flight

Arriving 7:30AM from Paraguay. Want to get flight to NY at 9%0 will that be enough time? This is in July.

9:00 AM? No, that would probably be too early, especially if it's two separate reservations. You need 3 hours if it's two separate reservations.

I'm taking a flight from London to Miami (BA) and then another flight from Miami to NYC (AA). I've got 2:05 of transit time. Will this be enough? If it makes any difference, i'm travelling first class on both flights. Thank you.

Flying first class, that should be enough time.

Forgot to mention that i'm not an American citizen.

Yes, still should be enough time. if you are a repeat ESTA user you can use the kiosks like US Citizens.

  • Lisbon to Miami to Aruba on different airlines
    Feb 3, 2016
I'm flying from Lisbon to Miami with TAP then from Miami to Aruba with Surinam Airlines. I'm arriving Miami at 3:10pm (Terminal D) and leaving at 5:30pm (Terminal F). Is 2h20 enough to make the connection with carryon only? I'm a US citizen with Global Entry.

Yes, with carry-on only and Global Entry, that should be enough time.

After clearing customs at Terminal D, do I need to go through security at Terminal F for my flight to Aruba? Thanks!

Yes, any time you clear Immigration and Customs in the US you will be outside security afterwards.

Is SJU to MIA a domestic flight? If so is customs only cleared in SJU or is it also cleared again at MIA? I assume luggage will be checked from SJU to LHR but does it need to be picked up at MIA cleared and then put back through the sysytem? Ticket is booked through Britiah Airways website, both flights are BA codesahre flying AA metal. the transfer time is 46 minutes which I know is very tight even if their is no immigration to go though at MIA and even if the luggage does not need to be picked up but I expect it is not enough time if I do. Your assistance is appreciated.

For all intents and purposes, SJU-MIA is a domestic flight. There is no US Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Flying from CLT to MIA to LCE
    Feb 3, 2016
We are planning on flying from CLT to MIA on American Airlimnes on Friday 02/26 arriving at 08:57 am and. Connecting with Cayman Airlines to LCE departing 02/26 at 10:30 am. We only have carry-on luggage. Is this enough time to make the connection? Do we have to go through customs or security checks?

Yes, that should be enough time. There is no US Customs when leaving the US, but you will have to go through security again in Concourse F.

Thanks! As I understand it American Airlines arrives at concourse D and thr Cayman Airlines flight departs from concourse E. Not sure why we would have to go through concourse F?

Cayman Airways uses concourse F - this is confirmed by the flight status webpage from the Miami Airport - http://webvids.miami-airport.com/webfids/

I'm travelling London to San Juan via Miami - I think I have enough time for the transfer (about 4 hours) BUT does US Customs consider a flight to Puerto Rico as an Internal flight or a domestic flight - I'm wondering, do I need to collect luggage and re-check or will it be considered internal-international and therefore will be checked straight through?

A flight to Puerto Rico is considered a domestic flight. You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs in Miami and then re-check them at the re-check desk.

  • SKG (Greece)-CLO (Colombia) through MIA
    Feb 1, 2016
I'm flying from Greece to Colombia with two seperate tickets, through Miami, arriving with Austrian Airlines, departing with Avianca. The problem is I have only two hours between flights. I've seen that both airlines operate on terminal J. Do you think I can make it? Is it possible for Austrian airlines to direct my luggage to Avianca even though I bought 2 separate tickets, so I don't waste time waiting for lugguge and then rechecking it?

You will still have to claim your luggage to go through US Customs and re-check it. It's possible to make your connection but it will be difficult.

I'm flying from Cancun to London via Miami on one ticket. AA to Miami and BA to London. There is a 2 hour layover. Do I have to go through any US immigration and can I check my luggage all the way through?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security. You should not have to claim your bags as you are on an International to International connection but confirm that with AA agents in Miami.

  • Enough time!!!
    Feb 1, 2016
Flying from London with BA to Miami to Orlando BA again ,but only got hour and a half connection time is this enough

That's barely enough time if your flight from London is on-time. Note that your flight to Orlando will be operated by American Airlines.

Would there be other planes to Orlando arrive 18.25 plane leaves at 20.01 if we miss it

I don't know when exactly you're traveling, but most days there is a 2200 flight or thereabouts.

  • SJO - MIA - PHL --- customs ??
    Feb 1, 2016
Flying on AA from SJO - MIA - PHL. Will we need to go through Customs & re-check our bags in MIA to our final destination of PHL?

Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Zurich-Miami-Nassay
    Jan 30, 2016
Hi, we are flying from Zurich with Swiss airlines arriving to Miami at 14:35 (EU passport). Then we have a separate ticket with AA for the flight to Nassau that departs at 16:55. -Do you think we can check our bags directly for Nassau even if we fly two different airlines with two different tickets? -Do you think the connection time is enough? Thanks

You can ask the Swiss agent in Zurich but they are not obligated to because you purchased two separate tickets. It's possible, but I personally wouldn't have booked such a ticket international to international connection through MIA on two separate reservations.

Do you think the connection time is enough if i have to check in my bags again in MIA? I could do onlibe check in but i will still have to drop off my bags

It's possible if everything goes perfectly.

  • Transition from Turkish (IST) to AA (Dallas)
    Jan 29, 2016
I will arrive at Miami Airport at 7:30 pm from Istanbul and I have 2 - 2.5 hours layover (next flight is at 9:40 pm). My next flight is American Airlines to Dallas, Texas. Is the layover time enough for the transition?

Are your tickets all one one reservation or on two separate reservations? Do you have checked bags?

Two separate reservations and yes for checked bags.

That will be difficult. You will have to hope Immigration and customs goes quickly then hurry to the North Terminal to check your bags with AA and go through security.

  • use of Term J loounge
    Jan 29, 2016
Is it possible clear Terminal J Security in order to access the Term J lounge....even though our boarding passes are with American Airlines and we depart from Terminal D?

It's up to the discretion of TSA at Terminal J. You will have to go through security again to go to your departure gate if they do let you through.
