I am arriving into MIA airport at 4:28 am from Ecuador and have a connecting flight to CLT at 6:30 am. Is 2 hours enough time to go through customs and recheck my bags? All flights are through AA.

Since you are arriving extremely early in the morning, that should be enough time.

The entire itinerary will be on American. When traveling from LAX to Buenos Aires with a stop in Miami, is a 2 hour layover long enough? Similarly, how long do I need on the Buenos Aired to Miami to Los Angeles layover? I know it's longer than outboard because of customs and things. Thanks!

Yes, on your way to Buenos Aires all you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate - you have plenty of time. On the way back I'd want at least 2 hours, preferably a little more.

I'm flying to Miami from Atlanta and will land at 8:54 AM. My next flight is to the Grand Cayman Islands at 9:44 AM. This is my first time at the Miami airport. Can you please provide any tips or suggestions?

    FYI, I'm flying American Airlines

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. All AA gates are connected inside security. You have enough time if your flight from Atlanta is on-time.

We are Canadians landing in Fort Lauderdale, taxi to Miami, taking a direct flight Miami to New Orleans arriving at Miami airport 2PM AA flight to new Orleans leaves at 3.30pm as they moved up the flight time, will we have enough time, as we are seniors and need some help

No, that is impossible. You need to get a refund from the airline that changed your flight and book something else.

  • Enough Connection time ?
    Jul 9, 2016
Hello, Im planning to take AA from Grand Cayman arriving at 10.34am and connecting onto AA to Belize city at 12.20pm. I would like to know if I have enough connection time? Is it thru the same terminal and also would I have to re checking my bags. My travel agent said I need a minimum of 2 hours and that Miami has been really busy lately. thanks In advance

Yes, 2 hours is about right. You should not have to claim and re-check your bags since it is an International to International connection all on AA. This will be a bit difficult if your flight from Grand Cayman doesn't arrive a little early.

Thanks for the reply! So if my flight does reach on time I will have to make a run for it then! Do you know if I have to change terminals? All I have to do is immigration and security again right?

Both flights should be in the same terminal. All you have to do is OneStop Immigration and Customs and then go through security.

We are planning to flight to Miama at 2:36 PM from RDU via AA, to catch LATAM international flight at 4:40 PM to Lima, do we have enough time to connect? thanks

That should be enough time if both flights are on the same reservation and your flight from RDU is on-time.

  • Connection to MEX
    Jun 26, 2016
Hello! I will be flying from MAN-MIA with Thomas Cook and need to book a connection through to MEX. The flight lands in Miami at 16.35, assuming there are no delays would it be doable to leave MIA on the 18.50 flight with American Airlines? I'm not sure which terminal I would arrive into and leave from and if this would be enough time. There is a flight later on with Interjet but it's a fair bit more expensive. Thank you!

No, that would not be realistically possible considering it's two separate reservations from an International arrival in two separate terminals on opposite sides of the airport.

Ok thank you I thought that'd be the case. I'm facing a similar situation with the return leg of the journey from MEX-MIA with AA before connecting through to MAN with Thomas Cook. The flight from MIA-MAN is at 18.35, would it be doable to arrive into MIA from MEX at 15.27 or would it be better to arrive at 10.29? Thanks again.

The 15:27 arrival is probably doable but leaves very little time to spare.

  • Family Global Entry Interviews MIA Connection
    Jun 26, 2016
Hi We are a family of four - two adults two teens flying STX-MIA arriving on AA at 12:58 pm connecting to DFW on AA at 3:50. There are Global Entry interview times available every 15 minutes starting at our arrival time and running through 2:45. Given the logistics of deplaning, exiting and re-entering security, do we have enough time to do the GE interviews during this layover? If so, I'm guessing that I should book the first one for 1:45? I'm trying to avoid waiting until October and possibly having to pull the kids out of school to get it done at DFW. Thanks!

Yes, I think 1:45 would work.

  • Changing flights... time!
    Jun 20, 2016
Hello... please, I am bit lost. I will arrive in MIA at 11:20am and I'll have an international flight to catch at 3pm and I am afraid I won't make it. Do you think it is enough time to get the bags, going again trough immigration, changing the gates... I would really appreciate the help.

Where are you flying into MIA from? What airlines are you flying? You haven't provided enough information to answer your question.

  • my daughter traveling on her own
    Jun 20, 2016
My daughter is traveling from Barranquilla, to DC and has a connection in Miami airport. Is that complicated? will she have to get her luggage, go through customs and go to the AA counter?

She will go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to her departure gate.

originally booked flight with AA that was cancelled by AA. I'm assuming it was because of the short layover times. Flying form home airport TRI to CLT, CLT to MIA, and MIA on to ANU. As of right now I could pay for flight with very short layover times or I have to choose overnight layovers in order to book with miles. What is the likely hood of catching a 945 am flight from MIA to ANU if arriving from CLT at 903 am?

It's not impossible. But it depends on the flight from Charlotte arriving on-time.

We fly TRI to CLT all the time and only once have we not taken off on time but it was CLT that had lots of delayed flights coming in and made us wait at our home airport about 45 minutes. So any amount of delay with first or second flight would make it impossible to catch the final flight. Guess we will be getting a room and flying in the night before or hanging in the airport for awhile.

  • SJO-MIA-AUS with big group
    Jun 17, 2016
Tomorrow a group of 29 students and adults are arriving in Miami from San Jose, Costa Rica around 7:24pm. We then need to make the last flight to Austin, TX at 9:35pm...this gives us a little over 2 hours to make our flight assuming the first one is not delayed. Will this be enough time? Any advice for this group? We really do not want to miss our connection as it is the last flight of the day to Austin and we are a big group of students/adults. Thanks

It's possible. Immigration shouldn't be too crowded in the evening.

  • Connection flight
    Jun 17, 2016
I booked a flight with American Airlines from São Paulo (Brazil) to Barcelona (Spain) with connection in Miami (the flight is tomorrow, 18th of June). I have 1:45 h between flights. Since they were booked in pack on the AA website, I hope there's enough time to transit, am I right?. I am not sure what do I have to do when I arrive there and if I'll have to collect my luggage or not. Thanks.

You will have to go through US Immigration, customs, and security. You have just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Since both flights are on AA and your connection is international to international you should not have to claim your bags.

  • Transfer and security
    Jun 16, 2016
we arrive from UK, have 3 hr stopover then AA flight to Jamaica. Do we have to go through security and do we have to change terminals ? Thanks

You will arrive, go through US Immigration and Customs, and then security. You should not have to claim your bags or change terminals if both flights are on AA.

Also, 3 hours should be enough time.

  • transfer time
    Jun 15, 2016
Do we have sufficient transfer time flying into MIA from Madrid with AA at 3:25 pm and continuing with AA to San Jose, Costa Rica at 6:13? We have 2 children around 6 years. Can we directly check the luggage from Madrid to San Jose (same airline)? Thank you

Yes, that is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. Yes, if both flights are operated by AA your bags can be checked through to SJO, but you still have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security in Miami.

    Thank you very much!
