When I return from Barbados to the Miami airport then catch my connecting flight to Atlanta will I have to go through customs before getting on my flight to Atlanta?
Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.
Hi, I have family friends from Brazil traveling from Europe to San Paolo with flight over in Miami for 4 hours. Can they come out of the airport? If so, they have to pass immigration simply for tourist stamp or they need an esta? How would it work?
Yes, when they clear US Customs they will be outside security. However, they'll be unlikely to have more than 30 minutes to spare before they have to go back through security. If they are Brazilian citizens they need a US Transit Visa.
Thank you very much
Hi, I am afraid I have made a mistake and need advice from an experience traveler.

I am leaving ATL (7:45 AM) and flying Delta to MIA (arriving 9:17). My next flight out of MIA was purchased through American Airlines so the tickets are not connected at all. I will be leaving on AA to Marsh Harbour Bahamas at 10:30 am. When I arrive in MIA will I have to go back through security? What will be the process for me? I will not have a bag with me, only bringing a personal item/purse. So bags are not an issue. I didn't even think about having to do this when I bought my tickets last week and am leaving on Wednesday. Can anyone offer advice?
Yes, you will have to go through security again in the North Terminal. You will have to hope your Delta flight is on-time and then RUN to the North Terminal to go through security. Try to check in for your AA flight online before you leave Atlanta.
Thank you. So I called American Airlines today and the CS agent told me that as long as I was not checking a bag that I would not have to go back through security. She said I would already be in the secured area so as long as I didn't have a bag to pick up then I would just be able to go to the next gate and get on my AA flight to the Bahamas. Do you think this is not the case? Thank you for replying!
Whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about. The Delta terminal and AA terminal are NOT connected inside security.
oh my. now I am worried. so when I onboard the first plane, I will then head out toward ground transportation or where do I go?
you will follow signs to North Terminal and/or Terminal D.
Thank you, I did have to go back through security and over to the main terminal. I actually had everything run smoothly with flights on tight and very small lines at security. Also highly recommend mobile tsa customs app. Without it, I may not have made my return flight!
I am on an incoming flight from Lufthansa from Frankfurt with a connecting flight (AA) to Nassau. Do I have to go through immigration, customs and baggage claim?
Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags with American, go through security and to your departure gate.
I'm flying to Mexico with a layover in Mimi .. (1.15 hr ) from TORONTO
Do I have to clear my bags? And go through customs ? if so is that lots of time? Or will they just move me to my other flight ? And move my bags to the flight too ? I'm afraid to miss my flight ,,,
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. if both flights are on American then all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Miami. You have enough time.
I fly from abq to mia on delta, then I need to get to copa for a flight to 5th through pty. I have 3 hours between flights, is that enough time to recheck bags and where do I go to recheck my bags ? Thank you
You will have to take your bags to the Copa check-in desk in the South Terminal. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
Will I have enough time to catch flight out of Miami? Land in MIA from nassau, bahamas at 755pm on bahamaair and flight out of MIA leaves at 925pm on AA.
You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Nassau. You have just enough time if everything goes perfectly and you hurry.
I'm flying AA in August, landing in Miami at 1200 and leaving Miami at 1800. Would I need to claim and recheck luggage? Also, would I have time to catch a cab to Bayside for a 45 min speed boat ride?
Thanks
You will not have to claim and re-check your bags. You probably would have enough time to do that. Note however that it will be BRUTALLY hot and humid in Miami in August.
Hi, we're flying from London to New York to Miami to Cap Haitien, Haiti with a very limited stopover time in Miami which AA have told us "is within there allowed time limit", From what I understand we'll have to clear our bags in new york and re-check in, when we get to Miami, will we be able to transit straight to our flight or will we have to go through US customs again? thanks
Yes, in Miami all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US customs when leaving the US.
We are flying from San Jose to Miami with a 6 hour layover and then to Toronto, all on American Airlines. Will we have to go through customs? Will our bags be routed right through? And are we allowed to leave the airport between flights?
Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security but won't have to claim and re-check your bags unless the connection is overnight. Yes, you are allowed to leave the airport.
