Hi, we are booked to fly to Miami from the U.K arriving at 15.00, then have an ongoing flight to Orlando at 17.25. This was all booked with one airline but now we have realised have to clear security and immigration in Miami not Orlando. Is this a realistic amount of time in order to get the connection. If not are there lots of American Airlines flights to Orlando if we miss it.

Yes, that is enough time. There should be at least two later flights from Miami to Orlando on American if you do miss your connection.

Thanks for that, are there normally spaces on the flights.?!!! Also do we have to collect our luggage and then recheck it in or does it get forwarded internally

  • Do I need to clear US immigration again in MIA flying from SJU?

I am flying from SJU through MIA with a 1 hour connection to my international flight to Barbados. I am a Barbadian passport holder. Is the SJU flight to MIA treated as a US domestic arrival, or will I have to clear US immigration and customs in MIA?

Flights from Puerto Rico to the mainland are considered domestic flights. All you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hi, I will be returning home to BOS from Guatemala City (GUA), with a connection in Miami. Is 2 hours enough time between flights? I know I have to go through customs, will I have to re-enter security as well? The flights are both on American Airlines.

Hi, I'm traveling from Toronto to Miami, then from Miami to San Jose, Costa Rica with 1 hr 20 min between flights, both on American Airlines. I will only have a carry-on. Is that enough time?

Yes, that is enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. All you have to do in Miami is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I'm flying from London-Miami-Charleston and my question is, do I have to claim my checked luggage upon arrival to Miami, then go through immigration, customs and secuirty check, then check-in my luggage for the next flight and find my gate? I have 5 hours layover that should be more than enough. Thanks

Yes, in Miami you go through US Immigration, claim your bags, then go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

My flight was just changed from a 2 1/2 hr layover to a 1 1/2 hr layover in Miami. Traveling from New Orleans to Miami then to Punta Cana. Is that enough time to change planes?

Yes, that i still enough time. All you have to do in Miami on your way to Punta Cana is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I arrive in Miami on 3rd January at 2.40pm I need to be out of immigration and customs by 4.00pm any chance?

I suppose there's a chance, especially if you're a US Citizen or permanent resident or repeat ESTA user.

I am flying from San Jose Costa Rica to Chicago with a connection in Miami. My arrival gate in Miami from San Jose is N8 and my departure gate to Chicago is gate N9. The gates are across from one another. Where is immigration and customs in Miami in between flights. Thank you

You do not know your gates yet and no gates starting with the letter "N" exist in Miami. You will arrive in concourse D, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, also in D.

Sorry. Terminal N and gates are D8 arrival and D9 departure. No luggage carry on only. Thanks you

OK, then ignore the part about baggage, you will go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security.

We are flying American Airlines, connecting in MIA from BWI on our way to St. Kitts. We will have to collect our luggage in Miami or will we clear customs in St. Kitts?

There is no US Immigration and Customs when leaving the US. You will go through St. Kitts & Nevis immigration when you arrive in St. Kitts. All you have to do in Miami on your way to St. Kitts is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Flying from Buenos Aires to Miami then connecting 2 hrs 10 min later to Denver. Will have customs and itinerary shows a terminal change but all AA. Will we have enough time if all flights are on time?

That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. If you miss your connection they should be able to rebook you to Denver through DFW or Chicago.

I am flying from Costa Rica to Buffalo NY (destination). I will be entering the U.S. at Miami airport. I am a U.S. citizen. What are the steps when I arrive and in what order do I do them. Example fill out declaration form (where?) retrieve checked luggage? Do I have to go back through security after getting luggage or where do I go? If you have specific directions for Miami airport that would be even more helpful. Thanks for any responses!

You will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and got through US Customs. If your bags are tagged through to Buffalo you will then re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. If your bags are not tagged through you will have to take them to your second airline and then check them with them and go through security. What airlines are you flying?

  • Transit time though MIA from Europe en route to Provo (Caicos)

I fly from Milan via Miami to Providenciales (PLS) in Turks and Caicos on a saturday afternoon mid Oct. I absolutely cannot overnight in Miami. What is the minimum transfer time I should allow? Thanks so much for your help

Sorry I forgot to add I am flying in and out with AA - I am not a US Citizen and I will have baggage

The minimum I would consider is 2 hours. You won't have to claim your bags since you are on an International to International connection with both flights on AA. But you will have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security.

Hey guys. I have an ITI flight with a connection in MIA for 4hours and 31 minutes. Is this enough time for a layover? I'm flying with AA for both legs of my flight. Also any tips on what I should expect as I am a first time flyer?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Upon arrival in MIA you will go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security.
