  • Connecting flight MIA
    Nov 13, 2015
Hi I will arrive in MIA saturday 5 december at 3:40PM, and I have a connecting flight for Cancun at 6:20. That's mean that I have 2 h 40 min. Is enough time to inmigration control and customs? To save time, is possible apply for ITI program avoiding the step of recollect luggage? Are there different queues for passenger in transit that have to be faster in the procedure? Thank you very much Kind regards Stefano

That should be enough time. If all tickets are on the same reservation on AA then ITI baggage should be done automatically - there's no applying for it. The different lines are based on your immigration status. If you are a US or Canadian citizen or ESTA user then you can use the APC kiosks, but if you are a first time ESTA user or using a transit visa you have to wait in the regular lines.

sorry, I meant "repeat ESTA user" can use the APC Kiosks.

We are planning (tickets not bought yet :)) to go to Jamaica thru Miami. Will arrive on 2:20 PM from Germany (AA). Next flight to Jamaica (on separate ticket!) at 6 PM, also AA. Will the time be enough? We are European citizens.

That should be enough time, but if both tickets are on AA I think it would be best to buy them together. However, even if you buy them separately you should be able to combine them into one reservation after purchase.

Thank you ZAP so much! We're considering separate tickets due to the massive difference in cost - even though the flights would be the exact same... Still, we should be fine (with checked luggage) if we're unable to combine the tickets?

Yes, 3.5 hours should be plenty of time.

  • Rental Car Center - shortest queues?
    Nov 4, 2015
I'll be traveling to MIA, soon and I remember that you'd sometimes stand in line forever to get your rental car which - after a 9 hours flight - I'd like to avoid. Does anyone know which ones are the rental car companies that usually have short queues? Thanks for your support, upfront. Alex

I'm flying from PHL to Quito with a layover at MIA. I land in MIA at 8:50 AM and my flight to Quito leaves at 9:45 AM. I'm not checking any bags or traveling with kids. Do you think this is a doable lay over?

Yes, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hello, I will arrive to MIA by a US Airways flight from London Heathrow at 8.09 pm and I will have to take an AA plane to Nassau by 9.30 pm. Not having to claim baggage, will I have enough time to catch the plane?

That should barely be enough time. Note that your flight to Miami will also be operated by American.

Now that the new Immigration/Customs facility is open in Terminal D, how long does it typically take to get through and get to the gate in D, with no checked bags, only carry ons?

It really depends on the time of day. In early Morning and Mid-Afternoon it's probably the longest. Probably 40ish minutes.

Will be arriving around 11 am on a Monday. I have 1 hr 45 min layover. Think it's possible?? American airlines all the way. And will be one of the first off the plane.

Yes, that should be enough time.

Thank you so much for all your help !

  • Traveling from Peru to Seattle through MIA
    May 1, 2014
I am going to be traveling from Lima, Peru to Seattle, WA with a connection through MIA on Sept 20th. My LAN flight from Peru arrives at 7:50 am at Concourse J. The Delta flight to Seattle leaves at 10:15 am from Concourse H. Is 2 hrs going to be enough time for me to clear customs and passport control? I'm a US citizen and will only have carry on luggage. Thank you so very much for your help!

Please note that Delta does not fly from Miami to Seattle. The only airline that flies there nonstop is American.

Thank you so much! Yes, unfortunately, AA isn't a preferred airline for me, so I chose to have an hour layover in Atlanta on the way back. Would you have any suggestions regarding the time frame I listed? Thank you again!

OK, you should have plenty of time, especially considering you won't have checked baggage.

    Wonderful! Thank you so much!

  • from MIA airport to port of the cruise

I will take AA from Toronto to MIA airport 1:30 pm and my cruise Embarkation time is 5:00 pm ,cruise disembarkation time is 7:00am and my flight will be 10:00 am ,can I make it?

You should have plenty of time if your flight to Miami is on-time. However, you will have a really hard time making that 10 AM return flight.

  • Passport Control and US Customs
    Mar 30, 2014
I am keeping my baggage all carry-on. No baggage claim. I am a US citizen, returning from vacation in Peru through MIA. My connecting flight is American Airlines to my final destination, SFO. (San Francisco) According to the MIA map, I arrive at MIA on LAN in the South Terminal. I depart on American Airlines in the North Terminal. I have two hours and 5 minutes between flights to clear Passport Control and US Customs. Even without baggage claim, I might not make it. My questions: Can I choose which terminal to be processed through -- since I have no bags to claim? The MIA website says only: "International arriving passengers will proceed to U.S. Customs and Border Protection's passport control. After clearing passport control, passengers will proceed to collect baggage and clear U.S. Customs." That's very clear. BUT: Since I have no baggage to claim, can I just go over to NorthTerminal and get processed there? I may be wrong but I have a feeling North Terminal may be faster/easier than SouthTerminal and I have to end up at North Terminal for my departure anyway. Thanks!

No, you have to clear immigration and customs in the South Terminal since you will be funneled that way, there will be no other option. By carrying on the only thing you skip is having to stop at the baggage claim and re-check desk.
