Hello, I am a Costa Rican living in Prague with US visa till 2020 travelling on September Back to Costa Rica, I have 2 hour layover in MIA, but my passport is going to expired in 5months and 27 days the date I travel, it is really necessary to renew the passport just for two hours layover which final destination is my own country where I will renew my passport? For me it does not make sense to spend so much money and time to renew my passport to the closest embassy (Vienna) just for 2h layover. Thanks for your help.

Yes, you won't be allowed to board your plane to London or the US with an expired passport.

Thank you for your response. You mentioned an expired passport, but my passport is not going to be expired untill March 2016. So am I not going to be allowed to board the plane with a valid and a non-expired passport? My passport says that I can use it for travelling purposes till March 2016, why cannot I use then? Thanks

Then why are you worried? Why are you asking this question? Citizens of Costa Rica are exempt from the six month validity rule: http://www.immihelp.com/visas/six-months-passport-validity-rule-visitors.html http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/104770.pdf

Hey, Well, I was worried because you wrote that I couldn't board the plane and also becasue I never saw that exemption list.. Thanks

  • How long it takes to clear custom
    Aug 30, 2015
We arrive to Miami on Sunday 9/20 at 8:34. We plan to take taxi to FLL for a flight at 11:50 AM to BWI. Do we have enough time?

So I estimate you'll be out of customs at about 9:30. It's about a 45 minute trip to FLL, so you'll be at FLL at about 10:15 assuming everything goes smoothly, leaving you 1 hr 35 mins before your flight and thus giving you about 35 minutes of slack.

  • Arriving with 10 pieces of luggage
    Aug 15, 2015
Hi! I am arriving with 10 pieces of luggage, plus a cat and two small kids. Is there any service to hire for helping us with all these bags? Thanks!

If it is a domestic flight there are skycaps. If it is an international flight there are carts in the immigration hall.

i am flying with my two children 8 and 6 to Miami on the 26th September and they both have Autism spectrum disorders and get very upset with the immigration queues is there anything you can do to help us?

This is not the Miami Airport or any airline's website. We cannot do anything to help you. If you request handicap assistance from the airline they may be able to help you.

  • MIA to RDU
    Aug 4, 2015
I am coming into MIA via AA from POS and then have a connecting flight to RDU via AA. I have never been to MIA before. How do I get to terminal for RDU

Both flights are in the same terminal. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Recheck Bags at MIA after arrival from Ecuador?
    Jul 8, 2015
Flying American Airlines from Ecuador to SFO, connecting in MIA. After clearing Customs at MIA, can I recheck my bag right there? If so, am I still in a Secure Area, or do I have to go through TSA security before going to my connection gate?

Yes, you can re-check your bag right after US Customs at the re-check desk. Yes, you will have to go through TSA security to access your departure gate to SFO.

  • Can they Connect?

I have a married couple from Colombia that have passports only, if we are all going to the Bahamas can they fly through Miami without a visa? I think they can as they are NOT leaving the airport but I am not sure.

NO! They need a US Transit Visa! They will have to go through US Immigration and Customs in Miami.

I am a non US citizen travelling from Rome to Miami by Alitalia landing at 1545. My nect connection is on a different flight at 1710 Caribbean airlines. Is there enough time according to you

85 minutes is not a realistic transfer time between two international flights on two unrelated foreign airlines at Miami.

  • Re-checking luggage or not?
    May 25, 2015
Hi. I'm not a US Citizen, I'm flying from Curacao to Miami then to Atlanta (both flights with American Airlines). Do I need to claim my luggage and then re-check it, or is this not necessary? Thanks!

Yes, in Miami you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, Re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Going through customs

I am travelling to Miami next week, I would like to know if I arrive at the airport at 4:30 AM, approximately how much time it will take to be ready with my luggage to take a cab.

You will probably be out by 5:15-5:30 AM.

  • Connecting from LHR -MIA to Curqao
    Apr 27, 2015
I am traveling AA from London to Curaqao with 15hours layover in Miami.Have purchased tickets with AA to final destination. Is there possible to stay over at the hotell at the airport.I asume that il have to clare customs/security to do so.Is it possible to check lugage direct to Curaqao when the layover is so long between flights? Or do i need to collect them and recheck the bags again after clair bordercontroll/customs ?

You will have to go through US Immigration and customs whether you plan to stay in a hotel or not - there are no "sterile" International connections at US Airports. Since it sounds like your connection is overnight, you will have to claim your bags in Miami and then re-check them in the morning.

Hi, I´m flying from Guatemala to Orlando with a 2 hour layover in Miami with AA. Do I have to check out my bags? Will the 2 hours be enough time to catch my next flight? Thanks!

Yes, you will arrive in Miami, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. That should be barely enough time.

  • 1 hour and 50 min layover enough time ?
    Mar 3, 2015
Im Canadian flying from st lucia to toronto with a one hour and 50 min layover. once i land in miami will i need to go through customs and will i need to re check my bag or will it be brought to the next plane ? im flying with american airlines the entire time. Will I have enough time im kind of stressing out about this. if someone could enlighten me on this or answer the questions i would be grateful !

Upon arrival in Miami you will go through US Immigration and Customs. however, since you are on an International to International itinerary you should not have to claim your bags, but confirm that with the AA agents in St. Lucia and Miami. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. Miami is a very busy international airport. 1 hr 50 minutes is barely enough if everything goes smoothly.

Thanks for the info, if I miss the connecting flight what will happen?

  • CUN - MIA - LIR
    Feb 27, 2015
My daughter is a US citizen currently living in Mexico for a study abroad program. In June, she will be flying from Cancun to Liberia, Costa Rica with 1 stop in Miami - 1 hour/16 min. Will she need to go through US Customs and, if so, is that enough time for her to catch her connecting flight to Costa Rica?

Yes, she has to go through US Customs and that is not enough time for her to make that transfer.

    Thank you for the information!
