Hello there,I will be travelling from Vancouver to Newark and then to Mumbai with 3 Hrs halt at Newark.Do I have to recheckin my baggage at Newark? If so then is 3 hrs halt enough? Also,Iam Indian Passport with Canadian PR,I also have US Visitor Visa. Can I use my visitor visa from Transiting US?Or do I have to get another TRansit Visa. Thanks in Advance for response,

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver. Yes, you can use your visitor visa for transit. If both flights are on United 3 hours should be plenty of time, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Hallo there, i have a (nearly) similar problem. That means we will fligh tomorrow with UA1047 from Cancun Mexico to EWR s(upposendly Terminal B) and round about 2h later with UA962 from terminal C to Berlin Germany. I got some confusing information regarding the baggage - Do I need o pick up my baggage at Ewr befor immigration (to carry it over the border by myself) or dont I and can go straight to my departure-gate after passing the immigration without touching my baggage at all?

My first flight is UA6198, and then my connecting flight is UA807. Do I need to get my baggage and recheck in again? I'm worried since there's only 56 mins between the two flights? I know that I will have been already passed the American custom in Toronto Pearson Airport .

Hi, I am flying from Atlanta to Mumbai with Uniteed. I have two connecting flight: Atlanta - Washington DC Washington DC - Newark Newark - Mumbai I have 1hr50 at Newark. Is it enough to catch the next flight to Mumbai ? Will I have to recheck my luggage ? Will I have to go through immigration ? Thanks

You don't have to do anything with your baggage in Newark on your way to Mumbai. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. All you have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will depart from Terminal C. If you arrive in Terminal A there is a shuttle bus inside security between A and C. You have enough time. You will show your passport to the gate agent when boarding the flight to Mumbai, this is how they record that you left the country.

    Thank you very much

One quick question. Do I have to go through security once more at Newark ?

I am travelling from Toronto (Pearson) to Mumbai, through EWR(liberty international). All my flights are booked through a single booking. Will I need to reclaim my baggage at EWR and recheck it in for my next flight to Mumbai. What exactly is the procedure and how much time would I need?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. For the exact procedure in Newark I need to know what airlines you are flying.

I am travelling on air India to Mumbai

And what airline are you flying from Toronto? Were your tickets purchased on the same reservation or two separate reservations?

I am flying by Air Canada and yes the flights were booked on the same ticket.

Then you will just have to go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Newark both in Terminal B. I believe Air Canada and Air India are in different satellites, so if that's the case then you will have to go through security on your way to your departure gate.

Air canada flight 7650 arrives at terminal A. My air india flight departs from terminal B

Then you will take the AirTrain from Terminal A to Terminal B and go through security and to your departure gate.

I'm flying from munich with Lufthansa arriving in terminal B in EWR and then going in to terminal C to go to Panama and the airlines is changing. It is a whole flight ticket bought on internet - will I have to pick up the luggage and than to chek in it again or it goes automatically till the end?

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal C and go through security.

I have a flight UA8100 on Tuesday that is operated by Air Canada I have air Canada's travel awards, would I have to collect my luggage for my connecting flight UA81 or would it be directed to my final destination.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. In Newark you will have to take the AirTrain from Terminal A to Terminal C and go through security but you won't have to do anything with your bags.

Flying from Vancouver, BC on Air Canada. Changing plane in Newark. After 3 hrs continue with United to Puerto Rico. Will my luggage be sent all the way through from Vancouver to Puerto Rico or I will have to pick it up and check-in again in Newark?

Yes, you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. Assuming both tickets are on the same reservation your bags will be checked through to Puerto Rico and you don't have to do anything with it in Newark. You have plenty of time for your connection.

I am traveling from Mumbai to Newyork (JFK) and then EWR to Austin..my question is that...do I need to collect my check in baggages from JFK and take them to EWR and again check in? OR airline will take care of that....moreover, how can i commute to EWR from JFK?

You will have to claim your baggage in JFK and take it to Newark. A taxi between JFK and EWR is about $100. You can take the JFK Airtrain to the LIRR to Penn Station and then transfer to the NJT to the Newark AirTrain. Leave at least 4 hours for your transfer.

I will be buying a bottle of duty free whisky at Gva - my flight arrives at Newark and then have a connection to Nashville - can I carry the whisky as hand luggage on my flight to Nashville

No, you cannot. You have to put it in your checked baggage or mail it to yourself in Newark.

  • do I have to check out my bags and go through immigration check

my flight is from bombay to STL united airlines, I have 2 hours layover in EWR. and have to catch United flight from EWR to chicago and then to STL. do I have to check out my bags in EWR and go through immigration check and check in again?

Yes you need to go through passport check/ pick up bags; go through customs clearance & re-check-in bags. Note that United Airlines uses TC for its domestic & international flights - arrivals & departures, and Terminal B for some international arrivals - meaning you could arrive at either TB or TC. (United Express uses both TA & TC for its domestic arrival & departures). The AirTrain connects all 3 terminals of EWR, but in the unsecured areas - if you need to switch terminals, you will need to go through security check first at your departing terminal. Make sure your bags are tagged for ALL airports with their Airport Code. For your Chicago (O'Hare of Midway?) connection, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ord, (ORD is O'Hare; MDW is Midway) then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.
