UA 485 to UA 134 connection at Newark flying in from Chicago and flying out to Zurich. I have a 2 hour 11 mins connection time. Will I be able to make it? Also do I need to collect my bags or pass through security check. Thanks.

  • Terminal A to Terminal C - Best Way?
    Oct 21, 2016
Hi, I'll be arriving from Ottawa in Terminal A and leaving 2.5 hours later for Fort Lauderdale on a connecting flight (United). How do I get from TErminal A to C? Will I need to go through security again? (Note I will go through US Customs in Ottawa). Thanks!

United runs a shuttle bus inside security from their gates in A to C. You have plenty of time.

    Thanks so much!

You can also take the monorail which connects all the terminals. Either way you still have time

  • Terminal B to A on United - 64 Minutes to Connect
    Oct 21, 2016
In February I will be arriving from West Palm Beach (PBI) on United (at 1:29 pm on a Wednesday) before connecting to United Express heading to Ottawa (YOW). The flights are 64 minutes apart. I am assuming that between me getting off the first flight and the gate closing for the second, I probably have about 40 minutes to get between terminals. United's website has a terminal map of EWR suggesting they have an air-side shuttle connecting B to A... but I cannot find any details about the shuttle (frequency, location of the stops, etc). I am a bit apprehensive as I nearly missed a connecting flight in Chicago O'Hare (ORD) connecting from concourse E to C. I waited in a long line to take the United shuttle bus with no indication of how long the wait might take. In the end, it would have been much faster to walk. I have been through EWR once, and the security lineups were miserable (40+ minutes)... so I am reluctant to go land-side and then pass through security in terminal A. So, what do you think is the best way to connect from B to A in that timeframe? Thanks in advance for your help!

You will not arrive in Terminal B. You will arrive in Terminal C. The shuttle to/from A at EWR is fairly frequent since a good portion of the passengers flying United Express flights have to take it. The shuttle that you waited so long for in Chicago doesn't run frequently since nobody has to take it (because you can walk inside security between its two points).

I understand why you say I would be arriving at terminal C. Upon further investigation, it appears as though I have a 50/50 chance of arriving at terminal B. On FlightAware - at https://flightaware.com/live/flight/UAL1898 - I can see that over the past 7 days, UAL1898 has arrived at terminal C 4 times, and terminal B 3 times. Thanks for the information regarding terminal C arrivals - that is very helpful. Any thoughts on terminal B to A, in case that is the situation I am in?

I would still take the shuttle. Also, sometimes note that the flightaware gates are inaccurate. I'm not aware of United actually using Terminal B for domestic arrivals.

United just updated their domestic flights to include a few gates in terminal B. I have flown 3x the past 2 weeks into and out of terminal B. United didn't have their sh** Together so all of them were delayed. This was the first week opening terminal b to united so I am sure it's better now.

Thanks... though does anyone know specifically about the B to A shuttle? The EWR website talks about a C to A shuttle. Is this the same bus, just with multiple stops?

  • Terminal C 53 Minute connection arrival Gate 87 Depart 138
    Oct 21, 2016
Is 53 minutes enough time to go from gate 87 to gate 138 in Terminal C? the date is March 21st. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Yes, that is enough time if the first flight is domestic. However, note that there's no way you could know the exact gates now for a flight that won't happen until March. You won't know the exact gates until the day of your flight.

Thanks so much. I'd forgotten to write that the flight was domestic arrival and to international departure. Kate

  • Shanghai thru EWR to CLT
    Oct 19, 2016
I will be arriving in EWR from Shanghai. I have 2 hrs. before my connecting flight to Charlotte, which is in a different terminal. Do I have enough time to go through customs, get my luggage and recheck?

If both flights are on United that is just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • Cancun to Boston, through Newark
    Oct 18, 2016
Is 2hrs enough time to connect from Cancun to Boston through Newark? Will we need to collect baggage in EWR then go through customs and then security at a different terminal? Will all be on the same reservation.

Yes, that should be just enough time. Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, possibly change terminals, and go through security.

Seems tight, and stressful. I'm considering a longer layover in IAH for peace of mind and to avoid Newark in February.

  • Transfering betweenntrminal B and A
    Oct 17, 2016
Hello i will arrive at newark airport 13:30h monday and got connection flight to dayton 15:25h so 2h between. Will arrivevterminal B and dep terminal A. 2h will be enought so i dont loose my connection flight?thanks

If both flights are on the same reservation that is just enough time. Where are you flying into EWR from?

What do you mean same reservation? Same company?coming from portugal lisbon then newark 1335h arrive and them 1530h Dayton Ohio.also domi have to pick lugage or it goes straight dayton?thank you

Yes is the same reservation code for both flights lisbon newark and them newark dayton. Best thing to do? No need pick up bagage and go to terminal A

Your bags will be tagged to Dayton, but in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal A, and go through security. You have just enough time.

  • Flight Connection time
    Oct 16, 2016
I will travel from Frankfurt to Mexico City with flight connection in EWR. The airline is Lufthansa for both flights. Are 3 hours enough in EWR? I assume I will stay only in the transit area and don't have to claim the bags or clear customs. Is this correct?

The second flight will be operated by United (the first may be as well). The US doesn't have sterile transit areas, so you are completely incorrect. In Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, possibly change terminals to Terminal C, and go through security.

Thank you for your message! In this case, are 3 hours enough?

Yes, 3 hours should be just about enough time.

Hello there, please can someone help or advise me... I'm travelling from LHR to Newark then onto Orlando MCO. Im checking in luggage etc at LHR, do i need to claim bags and clear customs and then re-check in etc. i land at 13.00pm Terminal B and fly from Terminal C at 15.00pm to MCO. Also is that enough time from landing and taking up again??

Yes, in Newark you will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. If both tickets are on the same reservation you barely have enough time.

  • 2hr10min connection: NRT-EWR-MIA
    Oct 15, 2016
We are flying United on 15DEC (Thurs) from Tokyo to Miami via Newark. Is 2hr10min enough to clear immigration and custom? Our flight from Tokyo is scheduled to arrive at 1645 and the flight to Miami leaves at 1855. Thanks... We were supposed to be on the 9pm flight to Miami, but United has a schedule change ......

That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • 2 hour layover, PHX>EWR>LISBOA, different airlines
    Oct 15, 2016
Hello, I will have a 2h 05m layover in EWR. I will arrive from Phoenix with American Airlines to Terminal A. I then need to pick up my luggage, go to Terminal B, and check in/drop bags for my flight with TAP Portugal to Lisboa. Obviously then go again through security into the gate. Will I have enough time?

That's barely enough time if everything goes perfectly. I personally wouldn't try it.

Thank you for the answer. I might then change the flight to Newark to an earlier one. How long do you think is the minimum safe layover time there for it to work? Would 3 hours be alright for that?

Yes, 3 hours would be enough time.

  • 1h45m enough time to change planes?
    Oct 12, 2016
I'm flying United from the UK to Newark, then Air Canada to Toronto. Is 1h45m enough time if I only have carry-on luggage?

With carry-ons only that's just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • From UK to SFO via Newark
    Oct 12, 2016
I am flying from BHX UK to SFO (San Francisco) via Newark with United, on Sunday. Originally I had less than 1.30 hrs to transfer from Terminal B to C, but I have requested a later flight so as I will have 2.25hrs to check through imigration and transfer to Term C. Will I have to collect bag, even though both flights are United and booked on same ticket and will I have sufficient time? Any tips would be appreciated.

Yes, you will have to claim your bag to take it through US Customs, then immediately re-check it at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal C and go through security. You should have enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • 1hr 15 min connection LAX->EWR and EWR->DEL
    Oct 9, 2016
Flying United both segments from LAX->EWR and taking a connection EWR-DEL (india). Have only 1hr 15 min in EWR. Will have a checked bag as well. Will 1.15 hrs be enough to clear immigration etc to board Delhi connection in EWR. I think arrival and departure at EWR is at the same terminal C

Yes, that is enough time. There is no US Immigration or Customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
