I am coming in with Newark as my layover to Pittsburgh. I come in to terminal A and must leave through terminal C. What is the fastest way from one to another? Sooo afraid to be late!

Where are you flying into Newark from? Most Newark-Pittsburgh flights leave from Terminal A, but if you do have to change terminals United runs a shuttle bus from Terminal A to Terminal C inside security.

I will be on a United flight landing at Gate 87 in Terminal C at 10:20 and departing on another United flight from gate 125 in Terminal C at 11:00am...do I have enough time to get between gate to make my connecting flight?

Yes, if your first flight is on-time that is possible.

I am flying into EWR terminal B at 4:39 pm. Friends of mine are landing at terminal A at 4:35 pm. Once we collect our bags, is there transportation between all the terminals? Also, once we meet up. What is the best way to get to Manhattan? Thanks for any help.

Yes, the AirTrain connects all terminals outside security and also takes you to the New Jersey Transit train, which is the best way to Manhattan.

  • SFO > EWR > RIC Short Layover

I am arriving from SFO (likely in terminal C) on United at 6:00PM and leaving for RIC (likely from terminal A) at 6:59. I have heard that United has a ground shuttle inside security between those two terminals. Is this enough time? Also, how do I get on that shuttle and how often does it run?

Yes, there is such a shuttle, it leaves from the base of the terminal near gate 71. you can make this if your flight from SFO arrives on-time. Here is the united map showing the shuttle: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/airport/maps/ewr.aspx

    Thank you!

  • Two different reservations - baggage claim procedure?
    Apr 27, 2016

Hello, I plan to fly into EWR from Vienna on AA Flight 6152, arriving at 7:40 p..m., and then take United flight 3405, departing at 9:25 p.m., to Syracuse. These would be two separate reservations. Is this possible, time-wise, and what procedure/distance would I have to go through to claim/re-check my baggage? Thanks!

AA6152 is a British Airways flight from London to Newark. With checked baggage this connection is not possible. You would arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags to your departure terminal on the airtrain (likely terminal A), then check your bags and go through security. You don't realistically have enough time to do all that.

Thank you. I will choose a different flight with a single reservation.

Im arriving at newark from manchester uk and landing at terminal b then i have to get to terminal c for a transit flight to san francisco, my agent tells me i have to claim by luggage and put it on the transit carousel. both flights are with united airlines, i have 2 hours and ten minutes between flights so dont have much time to mess around, does anyone know the procedure once ive collected my luggage at terminal b. thanks.

Yes, you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal C go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time. If you miss your connection United has almost hourly flights from Newark to San Francisco.

Thanks, we are a little nervous as never been long haul before or flown with connceting flights, good to see it laid out what we have to do, much appreciated.

All flights are on United or Lufthansa or Austrian Airlines - IND-EWR-DUS. If the flight from IND-EWR is on time, will 2 hours, 5 minutes be enough to make the connection to the EWR-DUS flight?

Yes, you will likely arrive in Terminal A and depart from Terminal B. United does run a shuttle inside security from Terminal A to the Lufthansa gates in Terminal B.

  • Risky? DCA - EWR - VCE, 40 minute connection
    Apr 24, 2016

Hi, I'm flying from Reagan-National to Marco Polo Intl (Venice) via a 40-minute layover in Newark. Both legs are on United flights. Is 40 minutes too tight to make this connection? I've been told that both the arrival and departure at EWR is in Terminal C. Bags will be checked through from DCA to VCE. (I was also told that if there is bad weather on the day of the flight, I can call United and they will put me on an earlier departure from DCA. Is this actually done?) Thanks very much.

Yes, if they issue what's called a "waiver" you can make changes to your reservation for free. If your flight from DCA does arrive in Terminal C you have enough time. However, if it arrives in A that will be very difficult. United runs a shuttle inside security from A to C.

Actually, I called United and they did the classy thing and booked me on an earlier flight out DCA. Now I have a three-hour layover, which is better. I wasn't going to take a chance -- I'd much rather spend that night in Venice and not Newark. Thanks.

  • Does business/first help transit by much

Hi Thanks for the advice so far, it looks like I will be traveling United business/first, international in domestic out, both terminal C. I normally fly economy so does traveling business first speed up the processing time. Example, immigration and then security other than the advantage of getting off the aircraft first. I suppose the difficult question, if it does make a difference by how much.

Immigration, not really. Yes, security it helps quite a bit.

I'm planning to fly from YYZ to HKG and either get a connecting flight at EWR or ORD .For getting connection at EWR, I will fly from YYZ to EWR by Air Canada and there I will have about 3 hours layover time, is it enough time for me to getting another UA flight to HK ? Do I need to go through custom or security check or re-check my luggage ? And will I need to take any shuttle bus to get the connecting flight at another terminal ? Finally, How about HKG-EWR-YYZ , is it the same way to do just reverse ? thanks for giving me any help.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. In Newark you just have to take the AirTrain to Terminal C and go through security. You have enough time. On the return in Newark you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal A and go through security.

    thank you very much :)

  • Flight Connection

I'm flying With my family from Santo Domingo -SDQ to San Diego - SAN, in a UNITED fly, with an Stop of 1 hour 20 min in EWR, Is it enough time to make immigration, customs, recheck lodge and take next fly?

No, that is below the minimum International to domestic connection time at Newark. I recommend at least 2 hours.

I am flying from Punta Cana (PUJ) to EWR, then connecting to fly to Halifax (YYZ) with 3 hours for layover. When I arrive in the US will I need to go through customs or do I just find my connecting gate because I am not staying in the US? Will I need to collect my luggage? I am flying United Airlines for both flights. Also, will I need to change terminals?

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. You may arrive in Terminal B or C and you will likely depart from Terminal A, so you will likely have to change terminals using the AirTrain in between re-checking your bag at the re-check desk and going through security. You have enough time.

Just wondering. I am flying from YHZ (Halifax Canada) via EWR onward to Barcelona, Spain. We have a short 1 hour 45 minute connection when we land in EWR. Do I have to clear US customs in order to catch my flight onward to Barcelona? Thanks in advance

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Halifax. All you have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. you will likely arrive in Terminal A and depart from Terminal C. United runs a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals.

  • 2hr 54min connection

Dear all. Our family of 5 people is going to travel from PDX to Milan. To save some money we consider to buy two separate tickets. I have found flight PDX-EWR-YYZ-MXP question is - will we make in 2hr 54min from terminal C to A, when we need to pass the customs check in our bags and then go to terminal A

There is no US Customs when leaving the US. What airlines are you flying and where is the ticket "broken" into two separate tickets?
