  • layover time is it enough?

I am travelling from Newcastle UK to Newark and then on the San Francisco next month. I am flying with United Airlines. My flights give a layover time of 95 minutes. Will I need to recheck bags etc? Is this enough to get my connecting flight?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to terminal C if you do not arrive there, and go through security. You barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly, realistically this is probably not enough time. However, United does have frequent flights from EWR to San Francisco that you can be rebooked on if you miss your connection.

We will be travelling back to Halifax NS Canada from Atlanta GA. with United Airlines. We have one stop in Newark. Do we have to claim our baggage before connecting to another flight, or is the baggage transfered from one plane to another. I think we clear customs back in Halifax. Also, will we have to change terminals in Newark ?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Halifax. You may have to change terminals in Newark - if you do United runs a shuttle bus inside security between their gates in Terminal A and their gates in Terminal C.

  • Clearing border and customs, connecting terminal C to A

HI, I have a crew of 5 people (4 UK citizens and 1 US citizen) arriving EWR with UA in Terminal C on Friday. We have to clear Passport control and then have a carnet stamped for our professional equipment before then making our way to Terminal A for our connecting flight with UA to STL. We have about 2 hours 20 mins to do this. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if we collect baggage upon arrival and have it cleared with customs in Terminal C, and if so does it get rechecked again in Terminal C or do we have to bring it with us to Terminal A? And will be have enough time to get through all this? Thanks!

Yes, you will claim your bags and clear customs in Terminal C. You will be able to re-check it immediately after Customs in Terminal C. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

United changed our flight making a tight connection from UA1024 from Tampa to UA161 to Glasgow. We have less than an hour to make our connection. Our only other choose is to arrive at noon. Help?

That's possible. All you have to do in Newark on your way to Glasgow is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I have a 2 hour 30 minute connection Int'l - Domestic with Delta on both legs, will this be enough time in January?

Where are you flying from and to?

    From CDG to RDU.

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Transfer from Terminal A to C 1.5 hours

I'm flying from Ottawa into Terminal A, and connecting to San Juan in terminal C. Both are United. I have 1.5 hours to make this connection. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Ottawa and there is a shuttle bus inside security from United's gates in Terminal A to Terminal C.

  • canada layover

Flying to Canada from Germany. My itinerary is Munich->Newark->Toronto. My layover in Newark though is only 95 minutes. Will I be required to go through customs, get my suitcase, re-check, and then go through security or will be directly connected to a plane to Canada?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to your departure terminal, and go through security. This is a very difficult connection, bordering on impossible.

  • Advice please

I'm flying with my family from Houston (IAH) on UA into Newark (EWR) term C and flying onto Bermuda (BDA) on UA, also term C. We will have checked in baggage. Our agent said the 65 mins between flights was enough and baggage would be checked through - was he giving me correct advice? Although he also said it was my only option if wanting to arrive and depart from the same airport! Please advise.

Yes, that is correct. All you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks ZAP - a real relief - I was starting to doubt the advice of our agent and began getting sleepness nights about having to pick up luggage and re-check it in etc with only an hour!! Our only concern now is that our first flight isn't overly delayed! Thank you for giving me peace of mind - as it is meant to be a holiday after all!

My partner and I are flying to Newark from Birmingham in the UK on Monday then on to San Francisco. We land in Newark at 11.55am and the flight to San Francisco departs at 1.30pm. Is that possible?

It's barely possible if everything goes perfectly. Note however, that if you miss your connection, United has almost hourly flights from Newark to San Francisco that you can be rebooked on.

  • 1 hour 35 term B to term C with 2 children

I have read that it may be difficult to transfer from terminal B to terminal C in 1 1/2 hours. Why does the airline allow a ticket to be purchased in this way if it is not fisable? I am traveling with 2 children and have hold luggage. How can I ensure I will make my connecting flight as I have private transfers organized once I get to cancun.

where are you flying from? What airlines are you flying?

  • Transfer from A to C

I am looking at a connection that would require me to transfer from Terminal A to C with only 55 minutes between flights. Is this possible? Do you have to go through security in between the two terminals or can you transfer without going through security again? Thanks

If both flights are United/United Express then you can take a shuttle bus inside security and should have just enough time.

I am flying from Tampa to Newark and then on to Barcelona, Spain. Both flights are with United and the layover is 1 hr 52 min. Is that plenty of time? Will I have to change terminals? Thanks for your replies.

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal C. You have plenty of time.

  • Terminal B to Terminal A - 1hr 20mins layover

We'll be flying BA on a Friday from LHR, landing in EWR at 19:35. We have a separate reservation with Southwest departing EWR at 20:55 to MDW. Is this enough time to transfer? There's a later flight with United, that leaves at 21:29. Would that be a better choice?

Both connections are pretty much impossible with checked bags. Without checked bags the United flight might be possible.

  • Changing gates at Newark

Hello all. On August 16th I'm landing in EWR on a flight from Seattle with United. I arrive at 2:21 pm. At 5:25 I am supposed to be taking off on a flight to Stockholm-Arlanda, this flight also being United. Do you know if I will have to change terminals? I'm a frequent flyer but have never flown through Newark. It seems like a complicated airport and I'm not sure I could make it with transferring and waiting in the TSA lines!

Both flights will be in Terminal C. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate on your way to Stockholm. You have plenty of time. You do not have to go through security.

    Thank you dearie! That helps!

  • Is 2hr and 40 minutes enough?

We will arrive with Swiss Airways (don't know the terminals) at 13.50 and we will fly out at 16.30 with United to San Jose, Costa Rica. Will the 2hrs and 40 min be enough to pick up our bags, go through customs, check in the bags and go through security (and possibly change terminals?)

You will arrive in Terminal B and depart from Terminal C. That should be enough time.
