  • Premier Access advice

General question about premier access in terminal C. We have a tight connection time officially 1.35 although the inbound flight is quiet often early, BFS EWR then after passport and customs EWR to MCO. As I am from the UK I was hoping Premier access would help with security but have seen reports of TSA staff allegedly stopping people using the premier access line and making everyone use a single line. I asked united and they said they only sell the premier access product, it's up to the TSA who uses it. At United's suggestion I contacted TSA they said its united who decide and if I am not happy with the airline complain to this number. Any advice on whether this is a problem or speeding the security process up would be a great help.

There's unfortunately nothing you can do to speed up the security process if TSA refuses to open the premier access lanes. All you can do is ask for a refund from United after the fact (if you paid for it).

Hi I'm traveling to Newark Airport from LAX on Sunday 2nd October. We get in to terminal A at 4:35 pm with Virgin Australia International and want to book a flight to Toronto with Air Canada departing at 18:25, also terminal A. Is this enough time for my connection? My travel agent is being cautious and has warned against it in case there is a delay from LAX. Thanks in advance :)

Virgin Australia does not fly to Newark. Please double check your reservation.

I have. It says Virgin Australia VA 5268 on our itinerary and then underneath operated by Virgin America. All details are correct.

OK, then your flight to Newark is on Virgin America. All you have to do in Newark is claim your bags from Virgin America, go to the Air Canada check in, check your bags, and go through security. You should have just enough time.

Thank you! I saw there are some other flights through Porter airline, would you recommend Porter?

  • Layover, terminal change, go out?

I'm flying from Mexico to Ireland and have a layover here, it says I have to do terminal change. I'll be flying with United. After going through customs, will I have to get my luggage? If so, where do I re-check them and do I have to go through security again? And, would it be possible to get out to see someone really quick at the airport and go back in?

Yes, you will arrive go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the airtrain to Terminal C and go through security. You will be outside security once you re-check your bags so you could meet someone then. I don't know how much time you have for your connection since you didn't post that.

Would it be easier for the other person to be waiting for me in terminal C?

Just reading through some of the very helpful comments here and starting to worry about my own connection. We will be flying MXP to EWR, on United, arriving 1:45 p.m.. Flight to DEN (also United) leaves at 2:55 p.m. We do not have checked bags. Will this be enough time? Thanks in advance!

Sorry, forgot to mention that we will be returning to Denver after a trip to Italy.

Realistically no, that is not enough time, even without checked bags.

My husband arrives tomorrow (Friday) on Lufthansa at 15.45 at Terminal B and flies from Terminal C at 18.29. Can you go from terminal to terminal without exiting and going through security again? And how best to get between terminals?

He will have to go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, re-check his bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal C and go through security. he should have enough time.

  • Help, Transfer from C135 to C84 for connection flight

My young 17 year old daughter on flight UA75 from Newcastle to Newark delayed take off. Expected arrival at C135 at 13.21 and need to get to C84 for connecting flight UA3364 at 14.42pm for Columbus Ohio. Have only cabin baggage will she have time to make connection - worried father!.

With no checked bags it's possible she will make it, especially considering that there's a good chance the Columbus flight will be delayed. If she misses it United will book her on the next available flight to Columbus.

  • Short layover at newark

I am traveling on UA49 which arrives at 5.20 local time and have my connecting flight for UA1993 to Houston at 6.30, a short layover of 1.10 hrs only. My final destination is Mexico. Is this time sufficient to catch the connecting flight UA1993 at Newark? Will I need to do immigration at Newark since my final destination is Mexico? Would my Newark to Houston trip be considered as domestic? Would there be issues to catch the connecting flight even if it is of same airlines and final destination is Mexico? Please advise as I am worried that I may miss my connecting flight. Would UA arrange for another flight if I miss the connecting flight? Please advise. Thanks

Yes, in Newark you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate. I won't say that connection is impossible but it is very difficult. It is possible because of the early morning arrival so there will be very short lines. If you miss your connection they will rebook you, possibly on a nonstop from Newark to Mexico City (if your final destination is Mexico City - it's unclear if by "Mexico" you mean the city or country).

If I have to claim my checked luggage and also do immigration then I don't think I will be able to catch the connecting flight. It's Mexico country. Mumbai UA49 ➡️ Newark ➡️ UA 1993 Houston ➡️ UA 6297 Escobedo. Should I rebook my flight or I will get another connecting flight to Escobedo easily? Thanks

United flies lots of flights from Houston to Monterrey (it's called that, not Escobedo). All you have to do in Houston is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

But what about the connection between Newark to Houston? Will I be able to make it with 1.10 hrs stopover with immigration to be done and baggage to be claimed? Also the terminal seems to be same at Newark (Terminal C), would I still need to claim my baggage and checkin again? Else I will have to look for another connecting flight for Monterrey. Thanks Tejas

In Houston you don't have to go through Immigration or do anything with your bags, you just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Flying from Boston to Newark and then onto Copenhagen with checked baggage. My flight gets into Newark Terminal C at 9pm, and my flight to Copenhagen leaves from Newark Terminal B at 11:30pm, is this a doable connection?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • No checked in luggage

Hi In some Us airport you have a line at immigration a for connecting flights no checked in luggage? Is this the case in EWR? I have 1h44 landing from Barcelona and connecting to Houston and am not planning to take in any checked in luggage.

I can find no evidence that EWR has OneStop. That doesn't mean they don't - it just means they haven't publicized it anywhere. So I would go in with the assumption that they don't have it.

  • 2 hours & 23 mins in layover in EWR

Im flying into EWR onboard United from HKG and will be connecting to GSO via another United. Ticket says I have to transfer from Terminal B to Terminal A. Do you think the 2 hours & 23 mins will be enough for all the immig and customs check and check in to domestice? I understand that I have to check out my bags for the customs. Do I have to bring my bags all the way to Terminal A or can I just check them in at Terminal B?

You will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk immediately after, then take the AirTrain to Terminal A and go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time.

  • Is it enough time or is there assistence

I arrive at gate C97 with UA665 from Houston and fly to Zurich on flight UA134 from gate C75, I only have 40 min. Is this enough time? If not is there assistance that I van get so i do not miss my intercontinental flight

Yes, that is enough time if your first flight is on-time. You don't have time to wait for assistance - just run!

  • Connecting Flight

I'm arriving at EWR, Terminal B on Friday 9th September at 11:45. I then have a connecting flight to Pittsburgh at 1:18 (Not sure what terminal yet) This gives me a 1 hour 33 minutes to get my bags and get through customs. Both flights are with Unites, is this enough time? The operator advised this usually takes 1 hour but just want some advice. The next flight to Pittsburgh is 4:10 so would mean a 4 hour wait in the airport. Thanks :)

This is a very difficult connection. It would be slightly easier if you travel without checked bags.

Would you say this is impossible to do with checked bags? I'll be away for a week so I was looking to take a suitcase

It's not outright impossible, but it's pretty close. It depends on everything going perfectly.

Hi. Arriving in TB from Dublin at 1515 on Friday 9th. We will have pre-cleared immigration & customs in Dublin, and will be connecting to 1728 flight to PIT departing TC. Is that enough time for connection? Can we connect from TB to TC (flying United) airside without going back thru security.

  • layover time is it enough?

I am travelling from Newcastle UK to Newark and then on the San Francisco next month. I am flying with United Airlines. My flights give a layover time of 95 minutes. Will I need to recheck bags etc? Is this enough to get my connecting flight?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to terminal C if you do not arrive there, and go through security. You barely have enough time if everything goes perfectly, realistically this is probably not enough time. However, United does have frequent flights from EWR to San Francisco that you can be rebooked on if you miss your connection.

  • baggage and terminals

We will be travelling back to Halifax NS Canada from Atlanta GA. with United Airlines. We have one stop in Newark. Do we have to claim our baggage before connecting to another flight, or is the baggage transfered from one plane to another. I think we clear customs back in Halifax. Also, will we have to change terminals in Newark ?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Halifax. You may have to change terminals in Newark - if you do United runs a shuttle bus inside security between their gates in Terminal A and their gates in Terminal C.

  • Clearing border and customs, connecting terminal C to A
    Jul 27, 2016

HI, I have a crew of 5 people (4 UK citizens and 1 US citizen) arriving EWR with UA in Terminal C on Friday. We have to clear Passport control and then have a carnet stamped for our professional equipment before then making our way to Terminal A for our connecting flight with UA to STL. We have about 2 hours 20 mins to do this. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if we collect baggage upon arrival and have it cleared with customs in Terminal C, and if so does it get rechecked again in Terminal C or do we have to bring it with us to Terminal A? And will be have enough time to get through all this? Thanks!

Yes, you will claim your bags and clear customs in Terminal C. You will be able to re-check it immediately after Customs in Terminal C. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
