I am flying on UA flight from Sao Paulo to arrive in EWR at 7:40 am and take a connection flight to Los Angeles at 9:00 am. Do you think that 1 h 20 min for immigration process is enough time? Thank you

That is not enough time. You need to contact whoever you booked that ticket through and request a later flight to Los Angeles.

Flying from Costa Rica - Newark - Zurich through UA. Arrival and departure in Terminal C. Will I have to go through immigration and customs and will I have to collect my bags or are they checked through from Liberia?

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and to your departure gate.

hi, i fly from manchester to panama with a connection at newark. will i need to reclaim and re check my luggage? also i arrive at terminal b and leave at terminal c, how long would it take to get there? i have 2 hours 15 mins layover time, thanks

Yes, you will arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal C, go through security and to your departure gate. You have barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

your joking haha i didnt even know about this until i checked my flights and saw the terminals were different. looks like im screwed ha thanks for your help

Also, that's assuming you're coming from Manchester, England. If you're coming from Manchester, New Hampshire the process is much simpler.

YeH coming from England. So you think I'll struggle with it?

It's not impossible, but there's no room for anything to go wrong.

Thanks for your help. Good job I looked this up ha what'll happen if I miss it?!

Some nights there is a midnight flight to Panama City. If that exists the day of your trip you'll be rebooked on that. If not they will either book you on the next afternoon's flight to Panama City from Newark, or send you to Houston, have you spend the night there, and then take the next morning flight from Houston to Panama City.

I arrive in Newark via Southwest from San Diego at 4:30PM and have a connection at Aer Lingus departing for Dublin at 5:40PM. I will have no checked bags. Can I reasonably make this connection? Can I make arrangements in advance for passenger cart to take me from one terminal to the other?

Carts are for handicapped passengers. This is barely possible if everything goes perfectly. Personally, I wouldn't try it.

I am considering flying into EWR on Southwest (domestic) and out of EWR on United (Int'l, to Italy). How much time do I need, assuming I have to get my bags, check them in again, go through security, and customs? I'm looking at a 2hr gap but not sure its enough. Thanks

2 hours is barely enough. You will arrive in Terminal A, claim your bags, take them to Terminal C on the AirTrain, re-check them with United, and go through security. There us no US Customs when leaving the US. Personally I'd want a little more than 2 hours because EWR is known for delays and crowded in the afternoon.

I'm arrived from Shannon Ireland with 2 hour layover in Newark. Then I travel on to Boston. Do I need to collect my luggage? go through immigration? I will clear immigration in Shannon. Both flights are United. what terminal will I arrive into and fly on to Boston from. thank you

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Shannon and won't have to again or do anything with your bags in Newark. Both flights will likely be in Terminal C. There is a slight chance your flight to Boston may depart from Terminal A. There is a shuttle bus inside security connecting A and C.

Thank you very much for you response, I'm flying with my two small children so need to be prepared.

I will be arriving at Terminal B from Bogota with United airlines at 15;53 and my next flight is at 17:30 to AMS with United but in terminal C. Do I need to claim and recheck my bags if all the flights are with United?

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal C, and go through security. This is a very very difficult connection.

United changed my fight to this: Fly in on United 1760 (from PDX) to terminal C at 6:58 AM, depart from terminal A on flight United 4447 expressJet (to MKE) at 7:40 AM - 42 minute layover! How often does the shuttle bus run? is this even possible? Thanks!

The shuttle bus runs often but it the trip takes close to 20 minutes. This will be a very difficult connection unless your flight from Portland arrives early.

Arriving on AA terminal A and take off on Lufthansa from terminal C what is the best way get to C with luggage?

Lufthansa does not use Terminal C. They use Terminal B. However, if your flight is operated by United it will use Terminal C. The only way between terminals is the AirTrain.

can you take luggage and cart on AirTrain

    Yes, you can

    Thanks!!

  • Going from Terminal C to B in 60 minutes

I'm flying into Terminal C on United and have a connection with SAS Airlines in Terminal B. I'll have 60 minutes total and wonder if that is enough time to make the transfer. I see a shuttle service from C to A but don't know if I'll have to clear security to get to Terminal B. Thanks!

There is a shuttle to the section of B that SAS uses, but it's still a difficult connection.

I am indian citizen, Do i need to go thru US immigration, re-checkin baggage & how much time is needed. Kindly help.

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to your departure terminal, and then go through security. I recommend at least 2 hours since you will have to go through the line for visa holders.

Thankyou so much for quick reply. My arrival & departure terminal is same Terminal C, even though do i need to take train for internal transfer after immigration & baggage claim.

There's a good chance your Milan flight will arrive in Terminal B or your Cleveland flight will depart from Terminal A. But yes, if both flights are actually in Terminal C then you don't have to take a train.

Hi! I'm a UK citizen and I've got a return flight from San Fran, connection at Newark, then onwards to Edinburgh. Both flights arrive and depart from Terminal C and I have a 1hour 20min stop over. Will this be enough time to make the Edinburgh flight? Will I have to go through any security again and will I need to collect and check-in my bag at Newark? Thanks!

There is no US Customs or additional security when leaving the US. All you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

Great! Thanks for the info ZAP, much appreciated

my friend arrives at 7:30pm to terminal B on Lufthansa from Munich and has a 9:03pm United to Orlando from Terminal C. Is there any special handling of checked-in baggage and customs/passport control clearance or do you have to go through regular passport control, get your luggage, go through customs, get on the airtrain to terminal C, re-check your check-in luggage, go through security and hope to make the flight?

I note from other posts that there is a re-check desk at terminal B. That is helpful. From there, can you take the bus shuttle from terminal B to C and avoid security clearance?

I'm looking at a trip to Dublin in late summer. One flight option is arriving Aer Lingus in Terminal B then connecting to a United flight in Terminal C. I know that Dublin has a pre-clearance facility but I think Aer Lingus will still arrive at B. I know United runs an airside shuttle between terminals but will it take me from B to C? I've seen posts that it goes from C to B and A to B but not sure about B to C. I will have time to take the AirTrain if necessary but would prefer to avoid a second round of security if possible.

I don't think the United airside shuttle goes to the same satellite of B that Aer Lingus uses, so I suspect you will have to use the AirTrain, but if you notice you arrive at the same satellite as Lufthansa and SAS, then definitely look for the shuttle.

I will arrive Terminal B at 1150 from Stockholm with Air Canada operated by United, one reservation. AC Express depart for YYZ at 1435 from Terminal A and as i understand i have to clear immigration and customs at EWR when arriving from Stockholm. Is there a baggage drop after customs at Terminal B or do i have to check my bags at Terminal A?

Yes, since your bags should be checked through to YYZ you can drop your bags at the re-check in Terminal B, then take the airtrain to Terminal A and go through security.

    Perfect, thank you!
