  • Is 2 hours enought time EWR to MCO?
    Sep 28, 2014
We're arriving from Glasgow, Scotland into EWR on Icelandair flight (Terminal B?) at 19.00 - then out to MCO with United at 21.00. Will the 2 hours be enough time to make the connection?

On arrival at Terminal B of EWR, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bags. NOTE: While Iceland will Arrive at Terminal B (TB), United uses TC for its departures (check-in levels 2 & 3), while United Express uses both TA & TC for its departures. If you bought separate tickets find out if Iceland will transfer your bags to your United flight - if not, you need, after Customs clearance, pick up your bag & check it in which United or United Express. If you need to transfer from TB to TC, you need to take the AirTrain (follow signs), but will have to go through security check at TC before proceeding to connecting gate. 2 hrs. transfer time should be enough. Be warned - TSA arrivals process can be trying at EWR (rude personnel there) - keep you cool!

Thanks for such a comprehensive and informative reply, Susep14. I'll contact Iceland first thing in the morning to find out if they would transfer our bags to our United flight - I had no idea that there was even the possibility of such an arrangement between airlines. Do you know if there is any way I can establish which terminal the onward flight will be leaving from, other than phoning UA? Thanks again.

Your flight to Orlando will leave from Terminal C. Even if you can get your bags tagged through to Orlando you will still have to claim them to go through US Customs.

Thanks Zap. If I can't get the baggage tagged through to MCO, should I be able to get through passport check on arrival at TB, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance, re-check-in bags and get to the boarding gate in TC in under 2 hours ? It sounds like a lengthy procedure.

It's doable but it will be tough.

  • Making a connecting flight within terminal C
    Sep 26, 2014
Please help! I'm beginning to worry about the time it will take to to make my connecting flight. I arrive from BHX into EWR 11.55 on a United Airlines flight landing in Terminal C. My connecting flight leaves EWR from Terminal C at 13.29. It has been sold to me as a legal connection.... will I get through all the checks in time? Also what is the procedure that I need to go through? Is everything signposted? Will I have time to ask for help if I need it? I could really do with a to do list with locations and approx timings!!! Thanks.

Yes, that is a legal connection. The first part is very simple. You will arrive and be funneled towards US Immigration, then you will claim your baggage then go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage. Then you will go up to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate.

  • International Arrival @ EWR to BNA: 75 minutes?
    Sep 27, 2014
United just changed my Dec. 18 connecting flight to Nashville to an earlier time, making what had been an almost 3 hour layover an hour and 15 minutes. We are coming in from Germany. I called and they assured that 1 hour is the minimum to get through customs and take care of luggage. I am not so hopeful and do not want to spend the night at their airport. I'd rather be with my family, much further South. Any thoughts or recommendations?

#2 under "getting around on the terminal map page tells international arrivals "To get to your connecting flight, take the Airtrain which serves all pre-security areas of all terminals." (http://www.ifly.com/newark-liberty-international/terminal-map) Pre-security? Does that mean we would have to go through security again? That's going to take some time.

Upon arrival at Terminal B or C, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, and re-check your bags with United. Then if you arrived in a terminal different from your departure terminal, you will take the airtrain to your departure terminal, then you will go through security. Your flight to Nashville will likely depart from Terminal A. 75 minutes is not enough for your transfer and the agent who told you that is flat out wrong. Call again and demand to be rebooked over a different hub, such as Chicago or Washington DC.

Thank you. That's exactly what I thought, too.

  • What to do in case of delay?
    Sep 25, 2014
Connecting time of 55 minutes (from Boston to Amsterdam, both United) seems to be ok if there is no delay. But what to do in case the inbound-flight is delayed? Yesterday the inbound-flight arrived at the scheduled departure-time of the outbound-flight. Is there a transfer-desk for these situations?

Yes, there is a service desk for missed connections. You will likely be rebooked to Amsterdam through another European gateway, such as London or Frankfurt, which has a later flight leaving Newark. Otherwise you may be rebooked on the next day's Amsterdam flight.

  • 55 minutes
    Sep 23, 2014
Connecting time 55 minutes from Texas to Hong Kong. United all the way. Is this enough?

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Terminal C 1.5 hour connection time from UK thru Newark to Ft Myers
    Sep 21, 2014
Hi, i have a flight next week on United 28 from London to Newark with 90 minutes connection time for the United 1587 to Ft Myers. I have been worrying (especially after reading the posts on here) that 90 mins is not long enough to clear immigration, get cases, customs and recheck etc. I rang United today and they say that 90 minutes is ok. Is that correct or should i change to an earlier arrival in Newark?

90 minutes is the minimum time allowed for such a transfer. It should be enough time if your first flight is on-time but doesn't leave much time to spare in case of delays.

  • Enough time for connection to Lima? Tips?
    Oct 4, 2014
At less than 24 hours notice, owing to strike action by Air France pilots, we've been transferred to United for our flight to Peru from Manchester, UK tomorrow morning. We'll be arriving into Newark (B) at 12.25 and the onward flight is from terminal C at 14.15. Does this give us enough time? Any tips for getting through as quickly as possible? Will our bags be transferred (as our destination is outside the USA) or will we have to go through customs? Many thanks in anticipation!

Yes, that should be enough time. You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs then re-check your bags immediately afterward with United. You will then have to take the AirTrain to Terminal C (if you arrive in B - United International flights arrive in both B and C), and then go through security.

Why would they have to collect bags and clear customs if they are in transit to another international destination?

  • Connecting from Boston in Newark to Seattle
    Sep 16, 2014
Hi, I have a connecting flight from United in Boston to Seattle, WA through Newmark. The flight arrives at 8:30 and then the connection flight leaves at 9:20. Is this enough time? Where do I go to get the connection?

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Both flights will be in Terminal C. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thank you!

One more question! What level of terminal C will I arrive on and which level will I have to go for my next gate? How long do you think it would take someone who walks briskly to get there?

Both flights will be on the same level. Your walk will take somewhere between 1 and 15 minutes, depending on the exact gates your flights are assigned.

  • connection time
    Oct 11, 2014
In February, I will be flying from St Maarten to Newark with 85 minutes before my connection to Toronto departs. Is this enough time?

That is below the minimum connection time for such a connection. You should ask to be rebooked on a later flight to Toronto.

Sorry it is 90 min, between flights, but will I have to collect my baggage in Newark and re-ckeck? And willl I have to go thru security again?

  • Terminal B -Terminal C
    Sep 3, 2014
I am flying from Edinburgh -Newark - Orlando (MCO) all flights with Untied Airlines , will my luggage go straight through to Orlando or will I have to pick it up and recheck in at Newark? Also I have 2 1/2 hrs Between flights at Newark will that be enough time to get through Emigration pick luggage ( if needed) and get from TB- TC ? Thanks

You will arrive in either Terminal B or Terminal C, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then immediately re-check your bags with United. Then if you arrived in Terminal B, you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C. Then you will go through security and to your gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • ARN --> EWR--> YYZ
    Aug 30, 2014
I'm flying into EWR from Stockholm and connecting to Toronto. I believe my flight arrives in Terminal C and then departs in Terminal C but my question is will my bags be checked through to my final destination of YYZ? I have lots of time but I am travelling with 3 children. Thanks!

If both of your flights were bought together your bags will be checked through. However, you will have to claim them to go through US Customs, then re-check them with your airline after clearing customs.

  • From Terminal A to Terminal C
    Aug 29, 2014
I fly from Richmond (RIC) to EWR on Saturday with United. I have loads of time before my connecting flight to Belfast, also with United. When I check my bags at RIC will i need to collect it and check it again at EWR or will it be put through for me? Also, I believe that I will be flying into Terminal A and flying out of Terminal C, will there be a shuttle from A to C? I know there is the Air Train, but from what I can understand I would have to go through security again which I'd like to avoid.

Yes, your bags will be checked through and you will not have to claim them in Newark. Yes, there is a shuttle bus between A and C which runs inside security.

  • Birmingham uk to Newark to rdu

Yes, you will have to collect your luggage to go through US Customs after you go through US Immigration. You will then immediately re-check it with United.
