  • DFW to OSL roundtrip this June
    May 15, 2016

I'm planning a trip from DFW to OSL this June all on United. There is a 1' 25" layover outbound and 1' 44" on the return. My wife and I have Global Entry and will only use hand luggage. Will these connections work? I've flown to and from EWR, but never connected. Thanks.

On the way to OSL that is plenty of time as all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. On your way back that will be a bit more difficult as you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, change terminals, and go through security.

I forgot to look at the response to my question last month. We will not have any checked luggage and have Global Entry for Immigration/Customs and TSA pre-check for security. With this, will 1' 44" be enough time to connect, if the first flight arrives on schedule?

  • International Flight into EWR with onward to SFO

I am travelling from Mumbai to SFO via EWR. Both segments are United Airlines- BOM to EWR & EWR to SFO. So I have to fly to Newark first and then get a connecting flight from there to SFO.. Just wondering will I have to collect and re-check my baggage? Or will that be done automatically by United Airlines. They are the airline I have for both flights. I land into EWR at at 05.40 and depart at 10.40

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate.

  • Connection Time

Arriving EWR 4:53pm in terminal A departing 5:55pm from terminal C. Is this enough time for the connection and what is the best method to get from A to C

The best method to get from A to C is a shuttle bus that runs inside security.

Also, you should have enough time.

  • Connection time from PBI to YQB

Looking at a flight right now from United. Flying from PBI to YQB on august 24 with a connection time of 1 hour at EWR. From what I was told, since it's both United flghts and in the same terminal (C), it will be enough time to switch planes. Anybody can confirm this ? Thanks a lot!

The flight to Quebec City will likely depart from Terminal A. If it does you will have to take a shuttle bus (inside security) from C to A. However, there's also a chance your flight from PBI will arrive in A. You should have enough time.

    Thanks! We'll try it! :-)

  • Do I have enough time to make my connection?

I will be flying in from Venice on United and then connecting to another United domestic flight My connection time is 1:50. Do I have enough time to get thru passport control, get my bags, clear customs, recheck my bags and get on my next flight? United keeps on changing my second flight departure time and reducing the time I have available.

Yes, that should be just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Where are you flying from Newark to?

We are arriving at terminal A Southwest Airlines & have to collect our luggage then check in with our luggage at Terminal B for British Air to London, How long should this take and how do we do it?

I recommend at least 2.5 hours between flights, preferably 3. Delays at EWR are quite common.

I am flying from Tel Aviv into Newark terminal C on a United flight and then connecting to another domestic United flight from Newark to Knoxville. I have a 2 hour and 40 minute layover. Will I have enough time to make the connection and if I miss it will United pay for a hotel room for me since there are no more flights to knoxville that night after my 7:24 Pm flight?

That should be enough time. United will probably not pay for a hotel (the only reason they would is if your Tel Aviv flight was delayed due to a mechanical problem).

  • Will 2hrs be enough coming from sweden

Wonder if 2 hrs will be enough flying into Terminal B from Sweden land 15:00, then connecting flight United to Atlanta at 17:00 from terminal C.

That should be just about enough time if everything goes smoothly.

  • connection from terminal C to C or A

My inbound flight is United so I believe I will come into terminal C. My outbound is on United Express so I think that would be either terminal A or C. If it is C, do I remain within security? If it is A, where would I pick up the United shuttle in terminal C to get to terminal A? And is the shuttle within security? Thanks.

Yes, if it is C and your arrival is domestic all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The shuttle to Terminal A leaves from the low numbered end of Terminal C, near gate 71.

I am flying from Savannah, Ga to Edinburgh, Scotland. I have a 1 hour 20 minute layover in Newark. From what I am hearing, it sounds like I will be flying into Terminal C and have to go through security to travel from c to b, then go back through security to get on my flight? There is no way to do that in 1 hour and 20 minutes is their? Surely they have figured out a way to travel between terminals without going through security.

That is incorrect. Your flight to Edinburgh will not depart from Terminal B. Your flight from Savannah will arrive in Terminal A or C and you will depart from Terminal C. If you arrive in C you just walk to your gate. if you arrive in A, then United operates a shuttle bus inside security to C. You have enough time.

  • BHX to TPA via EWR (Flight UA26 connecting with UA1783)

I am a little confused having read various posts. If you fly into Terminal B to connect with a flight in Terminal C on one booking do you (a) have to go through immigration, (b) re-check baggage and (c) what is the best way of getting from terminal B to Terminal C Many thanks

The best way to get from B to C is the AirTrain, since you are already outside security when you clear customs.

Thanks What about luggage - does that get moved by United or do we have to collect and re-check? Thanks

You will claim it to go through US Customs and then immediately re-check it at the re-check desk right after.

  • Glasgow to West Palm Beach

Hi i am travelling on United from Glasgow to West palm beach with a 1H 29M layover at newark. Can you tell me the best way to connect? Ionly have hand luggage

With only hand luggage you have a chance. You will likely arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration and Customs, then take the AirTrain to your departure terminal (Likely C) and go through security.

  • 2 hr 15 min layover in EWR from Tel Aviv

I will fly from Tel Aviv to EWR and have a 2 hr 15 min layover before connecting flight to CLT. Is this enough time? Will I have to go through passport and customs,,recheck bags and have security check before flight to CLT? Is there a simplest way to do this?

Yes, in Newark you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to your departure terminal (if it's different from the one you arrived in) and then go through security. You should have just about enough time.

Thanks. And if I arrive in one terminal and must get to different one, I should use the transfer shuttle or the airtrain?

SInce you will already be outside security when you clear customs and re-check your bags, I suggest the AirTrain.

  • Checked baggage from international to domestic flight

I am travelling to Chicago in a few weeks time. My flight is from Shannon, Ireland and I have to fly to Newark first and then get a connecting flight from there to Chicago. Just wondering will I have to collect and re-check my baggage? Or will that be done automatically by United Airlines. They are the airline I have for both flights. I land at 15.09 and depart at 17.30. And I will have pre cleared US customs at Shannon airport.

All you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal C. You don't have to do anything with your baggage. You should have plenty of time.

Oh that's a relief! First time flying to America and going by myself so that's one less thing to worry about. Thanks ZAP

  • Transfer from international to domestic flight with re-check in

Hi, I will arrive at EWR with United at 12:30 pm from Berlin (often delayed by 30+ mins based on Google flights), and need to re-check in for another non-connected United flight at 4:24 pm to Greenville. Do I have enough time to go through immigrations, re-check in and customs without checked bags? Thanks.

My two flights are on separate reservations, so I need to re-check in to get a boarding pass for the second flight. Is it possible to pre-print the boarding pass so that I can transfer just like I have two connecting flights in one reservation? Thanks.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Yes, you can check in online for the boarding pass to Greenville (either print out or use your smartphone). That way you don't have to stop at a check in kiosk in newark.
