  • Toronto -EWR- Barcelona: pick up baggage?
    Apr 25, 2014
Hi, My mom is travelling from Toronto to Barcelona (Spain), through ERW, with united She arrives EWR in terminal A at 16.30, and must catch the Barcelona flight in terminal C at 19.00. My questions are: - Does she has to claim her bagagge upon arrival to EWR, go through custms and check in again at temrinal C? - If she does, will 2 hours be enough??? THanks!

She will pre-clear US Immigration in Toronto. All she has to do in EWR is go from her arrival gate to her departure gate. United runs a shuttle bus on the secure side of the airport from Terminal A to Terminal C, so she won't have to go through security. She should have plenty of time.

    Thanks a lot!

Your mom should go through U.S. Customs at Toronto. Upon arrival at EWR, all she needs to do is taking the shuttle bus between TA & TC - at TA near gate A28, at TC near gate C71 - no security check needed. Her bags will automatically be transferred, provided that: her flights were booked on one ticket, or both flights are on United, or with airline members of the Star Alliance. 2 hrs are plenty!

I have a trip planned to Aruba with a connecting flight at EWR. We arrive at EWR from Chicago Ohare at 10:07am and depart for Aruba at 11:19am. Is a 1 hour 12 minute layover enough time to make that connection? I'm only bringing carry on luggage so I won't have to worry about checking anything. Thanks.

Yes, that should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. Note that EWR will be a mess of delays for most of this summer due to construction though.

  • 50 minute layover in Newark
    Apr 9, 2014
Hi, we are traveling with our baby from DC to Hamburg, Germany and only have 51 minutes between our flights in Newark (both are United flights). I believe our domestic flight arrives in Terminal A and our departing flight leaves from Terminal C. I know we should take the transfer shuttle to avoid having to go through security again but I was wondering how often that shuttle runs. Also, is 50 minutes realistically sufficient time to get from one gate to the next (with a baby)?

It will be tough but it's doable. The shuttle runs almost constantly since a lot of people have to make that transfer.

  • YQB - EWR - NRT : international connection
    Apr 5, 2014
Hi! I have a flight from YQB, connecting in EWR for NRT, flying with United. I have 3h17 connecting time in EWR. Will I have to collect my luggage and go through immigration at EWR even if it is only a transit? I think I will arrive and depart from Terminal C. I see that the YQB-EWR is often delayed, what is the minimum connecting time? Thank you very much!

While Terminal C (TC) at EWR is exclusively used by United & United Express airlines - United also uses TB for international arrivals. As it seems that YQB has no U.S. Customs clearance, you will need on arrival at EWR at either TC or TB go through passport check, pick up your bags, go through Customs clearance and re-check--in your bag where indicated. If you need to transfer between TB & TC, you will need to take the AirTrain, and at connecting terminal you will have to go through security check before proceeding to connecting flight. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr - then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text. You have plenty of time!

Minimum connecting time is 90 minutes. You should have plenty of time.

  • EWR transfer for flight CMH-EWR-NRT
    Apr 2, 2014
Hi, Need information about the transfer procedure at EWR. I am flying with UA from CMH-EWR-NRT. The flight is using United express from CMB, UA 3874. The transit at EWR is 2 hours. What should i do on arrival at EWR? Do I need to go through security check again? Do I need to change terminal? Is 2 hours enough to do transfer? What time does the restaurant at EWR open due flight will arrive EWR at 8am

At EWR, United Express uses both TA & TC for its domestic arrival & departures, your international departure with United is in Terminal C. You can take the shuttle bus between TA & TC - at TA (near gate A28), TC (near gate C71) - no security check needed.

  • International arrival (TB) domestic connection (TC)
    Mar 30, 2014
Hi! I'm flying with UA Glasgow to FLL with a change in EWR. Connection time of 1hr 50. Wasn't concerned until I realised luggage needs to be collected and re-checked? Thought I wouldn't see them until FLL. Any advice on connecting smoothly between TB and TC? Is the US transfer shuttle available?

After baggage re-check-in follow the Airtrain sign and take the train to Terminal C (US transfer shuttle only runs between TC & TA). At TC you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate. You have enough time.

  • Arriving at C96 and departing from C121
    Mar 27, 2014
I have a flight from Atlanta to New Delhi with a lay over at NEwark. I will arrice at c96 gate and will take the connecting flight from C121. I am worried if i have to go through security check and baggage claim process?

No, all you will have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks you for the reply. Will I be able to make it in 40 mins? The lay over is only for 40 mins

Yes, if your first flight is on-time 40 minutes is enough time. However there are frequently delays at Newark.

  • connecting flight times
    Mar 25, 2014
I am planning a trip from BFS to LAX with air canada this involves a stop at EWR - I have 3 hrs 25 mins between connecting flights is this enough time? Coming home I have 1 hr 50 min between connecting flights is this enough?

Yes, both of those connections should be more than enough time.

  • Germany to Tampa via EWR
    Mar 22, 2014
I have a choice between a 1 hour 10 min or a 4 hour 15 min layover in EWR. The flight arrives from Germany at 2:15 EST. All flights are serviced by United. We will have a toddler with us, which means that we will be limited to non-running speed to get from gate to gate. From what I've read so far, after arriving we will have to clear immigration at EWR (we are US citizens), re-check our checked in luggage before proceeding to the next gate, and clear security again. Will 1 hour 10 mins be sufficient to do all the above given our travel description?

1 hr 10 mins is not a legal International -> Domestic connection in EWR.

According to United's website, it is an option. Stuttgart to Tampa - Flight UA153. Then flight UA1148 (EWR to TPA). By not legal, does this mean that United should not be offering this flight?

First make sure you have the times right as I have never noticed United.com selling an illegal connection. But that is correct, they should not sell an international->domestic connection in EWR shorter than 90 minutes.

  • Arriving with Domestiv flight "A", departure International "C"
    Apr 30, 2014
Hi I am landing with a domestic UA flight into termina "A" and I have 53 minutes till my departure internation flight from terminal "C". What do I need to do, meaning is there a security check /passport control /baggade claim and recheck in to do? Should i use the airtrain or the shuttle?

If you use United's shuttle bus you won't have to go through security to make your transfer, therefore that's what you should do. If you used the AirTrain you'd have to go through security in Terminal C. There are no immigration procedures when arriving on a domestic flight.

So where do i do immigration?

I understand there is no immigration when landing domestic flight but it should be when leaving international flight, right? If yes, where do i handle that one?

No, there is no immigration upon departure of an International flight from the US. You will go through immigration for the country you are traveling to when you arrive in that country.

I am traveling to switzerland. So how will US know i lest the american soil?

They get a report from the airline, which has your passport number.

Thank you. I have done this trip mid march without any issue

  • united security shuttle sign?
    Mar 5, 2014
My mom is a senior who does not speak English. She is making a connection in EWR, arriving at Terminal A and leaving from Terminal C, both on United. I did my homework and it seems straightforward to take the security shuttle. However, as she does not speak or read English, I am not sure how she can find where to take the shuttle. So the shuttle is near Gate A28. Does she go out through Gate A28? Or there is another door for the shuttle stop? Is there a sign for the shuttle that she can look out for? Or better, any one happens to take a picture of the sign? Thanks.

  • Time between flights
    Mar 5, 2014
I have a United flight from Toronto to Hong Kong through Newark with 1hr1min between flights. Arrival is in terminal A, departure is in terminal C of Newark. Is it possible to make the connection (I'm told there is a shuttle bus for United)? United tells me I do not need to recheck baggage, but need to go through customs. Is it possible to go through US customs pre-clearance in Toronto for this? Thanks.

You will go through US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. So all you have to do in Newark is take the shuttle bus from Terminal A to Terminal C and to your gate. It shouldn't take more than 20-25 minutes.

    Thank you!

We will arrive to Newark at 7h38 (from Quebec City) by EXPRESSJET AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXP. We have to past the US custom. The next fligh for Punta Cana is at 9h03 by United. Will we have enough time for the connection? Thank you!

It will be pretty tough, the minimum Intl -> Intl connect time at EWR is 90 minutes, which you have slightly less than. However, Immigration lines shouldn't be too bad at that time of the morning and both of your flights will be in Terminal C at least.

Hi we travel 10 October this year from Manchester to newark arriving terminal b and then newark to Orlando from terminal c, we have 2 hours 5 minutes to connect and both my parents are in their late 60s will we have enough time? Can someone explain the transit process at this airport please? Thanks in advance

If you come into Terminal B (you may also come into Terminal C), you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage with United. Then, if you arrived in Terminal B, you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C. Once in Terminal C you will go through security and to your gate. 2 hrs 5 mins should be enough time if your flight from Manchester is on time.

Thank you so much, all sounds a bit confusing!

Arrival Newark terminal B on UA961 from Brussels on 03/03 12:30 Departure for houston from terminal C on UA1232 on 03/03 14:00 Please tell me I have enough time :-) Thanks ( does houston have a similar service to this great forum ? )

Yes you have enough time. While Terminal C (TC) of EWR Airport is exclusively used by United & United Express airlines - however, domestic flights of United Express also use Gate Area A2 in Terminal A). International Arrivals go through passport control and customs clearance, re-check in their bags & may proceed to their connecting gate. If your connection is in TA, take the shuttle bus at gateway C1, near gate C71, where you arrive at TA at gate A28. For both EWR & Houston airports (IAH or HOU?) I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iah (or hou) then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.
