I have booked flights on United in November. SFO to EWR with 54 minutes to change planes. United uses 2 terminals at EWR so this is unlikely to be enough time to change terminals and go through security. Return trip EDI to EWR then SFO has a 1.5 hour layover to change planes, but will also need to go through customs. Does United offer the possibility of being a passenger 'in transit' so won't have to go through security again each time I change planes? Many thanks for any insight you have

Sorry, neglected to mention this flight is SFO to EWR to EDI and then the return EDI to EWR to SFO. All on United
On the way to Edinburgh, both flights will be in Terminal C. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time. On the return you always have to go through security after clearing US Customs when entering the US. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.
Hi, flying into EWR from Israel and on to DCA afterwards. I know we clear can customs at EWR but can someone shed some light on the process... we have to collect bags after clearance, is there a special transiting line to recheck bags and for security? Or will we be back in with general departure folks.

I have 3 hour layover and Global Entry so not concerned about time.

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk right after, then go through security and to your departure gate. This assumes that both flights are on United.
I am considering purchasing a ticket from JAX to HKG with a 1 hour 12min layover at EWR. The first flight is U/A 4833, which arrives at gate A21. The next flight is U/A 179, which leaves from gate C71.
Is it advisabe to purchase this ticket, or should I look for a longer layover?
You won't know your exact gates until the day of your flight. That is enough time if the first flight is on-time. United runs a shuttle bus inside security from their gates in Terminal A to Terminal C.
Hi I'm arriving from SFO today and have a connecting flight. My flight from SFO is scheduled to arrive at 8:29 pm and my flight to ORF is scheduled to depart at 9:15pm. How long is the distance from TC gate 138 to TC gate 98? Is that enough time for me to catch my flight to ORF? Thanks
Arriving United in TC at 9:37 and departing United Express to Canada in TA at 10:40. Do we have enough time to connect if we grab the shuttle?
Yes, that should be enough time if the first flight is on-time using the shuttle.
Thank you, Zap! You were correct. Our flight actually arrived almost 15 minutes early at gate 138 in terminal C. We had plenty of time to walk purposefully to gate C71, hop on, and even wait a few minutes until the shuttle departed. We arrived near gate A28 and simply walked across the hub to our departure gate with nearly 20 minutes to spare before they even called for boarding. I didn't time it, but even with 45-50 minutes of layover time, I believe one could make the connection based on how the airside shuttle system works. However, I prefer not to be stressed between flights, so in the future, I'll try to have just a little more time between flights.
Hi, we fly into TB landing at 12:10 then have a connecting flight out of TC at 14:05. We have baggage reclaim and customs to clear, do you think we will be enough time to make connection.

Thanks J
That is barely enough time if everything is on the same reservation and everything goes perfectly.
Thanks for that. I'm now wondering whether to try and get a later connection. Do you know if we miss connecting flight the airline will offer a later flight free. Both flights are with United airlines. Thanks again...Joseph.
Yes. If you miss your connection they will rebook you on the next available flight free of charge.
Zap,Thanks for your help on this much appreciated.

Best regards Joseph.
I will be landing in to EWR at 1753 (hopefully) from ATL on Delta. I then have a separate ticket with Virgin to fly at 2200 to LHR. Is this enough time (presuming first flight is on time) to collect bags, customs etc?
There is no US customs when leaving the US. All you have to do is claim your bags from Delta, re-check them with Virgin, and go through security. That should be plenty of time.
Hello, I am travelling from Detroit to Delhi in November, via Newark and Amsterdam. The flights are operated by Delta-KLM. The flight from Detroit is reaching Newark at 17:03hrs. The flight for Amsterdam, from Newark, departs at 18:19hrs (on the same day), giving me a layover time of 1hr and 16min. I needed to know if this much time is sufficient for me to switch flights and will I have to go through a security check at Newark again? Thank you.
That should be enough time. All you have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.
This is my first trip to the USA.
I fly United from the UK into Terminal C EWR, arriving at 3:05pm. I then have a connecting United flight from Terminal C to O'Hare Airport at 4:30pm. Has my booking agency allowed enough time to make this connection?
No, the realistic minimum for that connection is 2 hours.
I'll be arriving from Las Vegas at 4:50 pM, with a connecting flight to Munich leaving at 5:30 PM. I don't know the terminals. Is this enough time to make the connection?
What airlines are you flying? Are both flights on the same reservation?
