I am flying from Savannah, Ga to Edinburgh, Scotland. I have a 1 hour 20 minute layover in Newark. From what I am hearing, it sounds like I will be flying into Terminal C and have to go through security to travel from c to b, then go back through security to get on my flight? There is no way to do that in 1 hour and 20 minutes is their? Surely they have figured out a way to travel between terminals without going through security.

That is incorrect. Your flight to Edinburgh will not depart from Terminal B. Your flight from Savannah will arrive in Terminal A or C and you will depart from Terminal C. If you arrive in C you just walk to your gate. if you arrive in A, then United operates a shuttle bus inside security to C. You have enough time.

  • BHX to TPA via EWR (Flight UA26 connecting with UA1783)

I am a little confused having read various posts. If you fly into Terminal B to connect with a flight in Terminal C on one booking do you (a) have to go through immigration, (b) re-check baggage and (c) what is the best way of getting from terminal B to Terminal C Many thanks

The best way to get from B to C is the AirTrain, since you are already outside security when you clear customs.

Thanks What about luggage - does that get moved by United or do we have to collect and re-check? Thanks

You will claim it to go through US Customs and then immediately re-check it at the re-check desk right after.

Hi i am travelling on United from Glasgow to West palm beach with a 1H 29M layover at newark. Can you tell me the best way to connect? Ionly have hand luggage

With only hand luggage you have a chance. You will likely arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration and Customs, then take the AirTrain to your departure terminal (Likely C) and go through security.

  • 2 hr 15 min layover in EWR from Tel Aviv

I will fly from Tel Aviv to EWR and have a 2 hr 15 min layover before connecting flight to CLT. Is this enough time? Will I have to go through passport and customs,,recheck bags and have security check before flight to CLT? Is there a simplest way to do this?

Yes, in Newark you will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go to your departure terminal (if it's different from the one you arrived in) and then go through security. You should have just about enough time.

Thanks. And if I arrive in one terminal and must get to different one, I should use the transfer shuttle or the airtrain?

SInce you will already be outside security when you clear customs and re-check your bags, I suggest the AirTrain.

  • Checked baggage from international to domestic flight

I am travelling to Chicago in a few weeks time. My flight is from Shannon, Ireland and I have to fly to Newark first and then get a connecting flight from there to Chicago. Just wondering will I have to collect and re-check my baggage? Or will that be done automatically by United Airlines. They are the airline I have for both flights. I land at 15.09 and depart at 17.30. And I will have pre cleared US customs at Shannon airport.

All you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal C. You don't have to do anything with your baggage. You should have plenty of time.

Oh that's a relief! First time flying to America and going by myself so that's one less thing to worry about. Thanks ZAP

  • Transfer from international to domestic flight with re-check in

Hi, I will arrive at EWR with United at 12:30 pm from Berlin (often delayed by 30+ mins based on Google flights), and need to re-check in for another non-connected United flight at 4:24 pm to Greenville. Do I have enough time to go through immigrations, re-check in and customs without checked bags? Thanks.

My two flights are on separate reservations, so I need to re-check in to get a boarding pass for the second flight. Is it possible to pre-print the boarding pass so that I can transfer just like I have two connecting flights in one reservation? Thanks.

Yes, that should be plenty of time. Yes, you can check in online for the boarding pass to Greenville (either print out or use your smartphone). That way you don't have to stop at a check in kiosk in newark.

  • What time should i allow?

Hi. We are arriving on a domestic flight from Orlando and connecting to fly on to London, England. Is 3hours long enough for this or should I allow longer?

Yes, that should be an appropriate amount of time.

  • 55 min connection from Denver to Manchester, UK enough?

I have not flown through Newark in a long time and I don't know the current terminal layout. Will 55 min be enough for a connection from Denver on route to Manchester England?

If both flights are on United that should be enough time. You just have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate both in Terminal C.

  • SAS International arrival to SAS (UA) domestic

Arriving from Copenhagen on SAS 909 arriving 12:55 pm at terminal B. Then departing from terminal C at 2:36 pm on SAS 6722 (operated by UA) for Atlanta. Can I get through customs, change terminals, re-check my luggage and board in time?

That is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

United allowed a connection to SFO at Newark which was within 75mins of scheduled arrival of my flight from DEL. Even though the arriving flight landed early and I had 90 mins - I managed to go through immigration (it helped I'm a US citizen as the queue was short), collect my baggage (I was brought on par with non-citizens, time wise), go through customs (it was a breeze), rechecked baggage (almost no time). However I almost missed my flight as I had to go through security check again which was taking 2hrs (I had to take help from an airport agent to jump the line). I've made that similar connection in past and I realize you need to have a minimum of 2hours to make a stress-free (relatively) connection.

If we arrive on delta from paris at 4:00 pm should we be able to make an american flight at 6:30?

That would be just enough time if everything went smoothly. It would be much easier with no checked bags.

  • Time to connect

I have a tight connection of 55 min in EWR from YOW at 7:45AM. Arriving in Terminal A and departing from Term C. How long is the bus shuttle ride form A to C? How long willl I have to wait ? What is the bus frequency? ev

The buses run pretty frequently, but this is still a pretty difficult connection.

Arriving from Copenhagen on SAS 909 arriving 12;55 PM. Connecting to SAS 6722 (UA operator) departing 2:25 pm. Can I make it thru customs to next terminal bound for Atlanta?

That is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Travelling from Glasgow to Cancun with UA (arrival in terminal B, departure to Cancun in terminal C). Is it 1:40 hour connection enough? Do I have to re-check the baggage?

Yes, you will have to claim and re-check your baggage. This is possible but it will depend on everything going perfectly to make it.

Hi I land in Terminal B at 1pm (international flight) and have a connecting flight from terminal C at 14.55 (so almost 2 hours) is that enough time as I am assuming I will have to collect luggage and have it rechecked?

It's barely enough time if both tickets are on the same reservation and everything goes smoothly.

So as long as we move through smoothly. Is it worth telling a member of staff as we land that we have a connecting quite close in time? Might help get us through?

No, it won't help. Most of your plane will have tight connections.

I have a 2h10 layover in Newark airport, coming from Lisbon with TAP, arriving in terminal B and departing to Washington Ronald Reagan airport from terminal C with ExpressJet airlines. Do I have enough time to do this? Thank you!

You should have enough time. You will arrive, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal A (United Express flights operated by Expressjet pretty much always depart from A), and go through security.
