  • Transfer bus

On my last trip through EWR, we took the transfer bus from A to B, and the attendant told us we could take the bus to C for a while if we wanted to as they have better shops and restaurants. We did not do that, but now on our upcoming trip we will be landing in A and transferring to C. My question is: going from A, can we make a stop in B for a while, then take the transfer bus to C later in our layover? Does the bus go from B to C??? Thank you!!!!

The green dotted line is the bus route - https://www.united.com/web/en-us/content/travel/airport/maps/ewr.aspx

we are flying on United. we fly from Cleveland to EWR have a 1 1/2 hour layover change planes then fly to Miami. Are United's gates all in the same area? Are we going to have a hard time finding our connecting gate? Do we go thru security again?

Your flight from Cleveland may arrive in Terminal A or C and your flight to Miami will depart from Terminal C. If you arrive in A there is a shuttle bus inside security between A and C. You will not have to go through security in Newark. You will have plenty of time if your first flight is on-time.

It will be a long day from mo to london ,how can I make my transfer from southwest to united easy?We will be bringing 3bgs and 2 carry ons? thanks

You will need at least 3 hours for your transfer. You need to claim your bags from Southwest in Terminal A, then take them on the airtrain to Terminal C to check with United.

  • Transferring in Newark, baggage claim?
    Jan 7, 2015

Hi, i will be arriving at Newark from Oslo, Norway and have to transfer to terminal B i think for my connecting flight to San Fransisco, therefore im really unsure on wether i have to claim and then re check-in my luggage and pass trough security again in the new terminal, or if i just go directly to the terminal? And do i take a bus or a train or what? Grateful for any answers!

What airlines are you flying? Did you purchase both flights together or separately? Yes, you will have to claim your baggage to go through US Customs.

I'm flying scandinavian arilines (SAS) to Newark and United from there, the whole trip was bought together at SAS own website, Thanks for answer about the luggage, nobody i talked to knew for sure.

You will arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration, claim your luggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then take the AirTrain from Terminal B to Terminal C, then go through security and to your departure gate.

I'm travelling from Cancun to Zuerich transferring in Newark. Is 2hrs5mins enough to catch my connecting flight to Zürich. At which terminal would I arrive and at which terminal would I have to take the connecting flight? I'm flying with United (both flights). Will I have to go pick up the luggage and go through customs? Thanks!

You will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then if you arrived at Terminal B, take the airtrain to Terminal C. Then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time but not much to spare in case of delays.

Thanks! For sure no need to claim bags even when transferring to an international (vs domestic) flight? Trini-Canadian friends thought we'd still need to recheck bags, so time tight & better change flight tho penalty. Zap, you're familiar with such flights or work there? really appreciate the help!

oops, i meant this as reply to Zap's reply to me below! sorry for misplaced post.

  • 2.5 hour United transfer from Toronto to Trinidad, baggage & terminal?
    Jan 7, 2015

Since our bags pre-cleared at Toronto airport customs & immigration, will we still need to reclaim & recheck baggage at Newark? Jan30, what terminal will UA 4528 from Toronto land at, & different terminal for UA1505 to Port of Spain? Is only 2hr 21min for the transfer rather risky? or since departure is 5min to midnight, will airport be less crowded? Thanks!

You will not have to do anything with your baggage in Newark. You will likely arrive in Terminal A and depart from Terminal C. United runs a shuttle bus inside security between the two terminals. You should have plenty of time.

PS Should I still try calling United at Newark to confirm? (in Asia now) so really appreciate the help!

You need to claim bags on the Trinidad->US->canada leg, but not on the way to Trinidad since you will pre-clear US Customs in Toronto. There's no need to call United.

Landing in terminal B from LHR (London heathrow) at 18:05. I am Canadian resident (can go through US citizen immigration). Looking to make a flight to London ON Canada with UA at 19:35 out of terminal c. Possible ?

All of the above is at Newark

Flight to London, Ont will actually depart from Terminal A. That's possible, but barely. If there's an earlier flight from London I'd take that instead.

  • From bogota to Newark to hamburg with united

Hello everybody, I'm travelling from bogota to Newark only for transfer and then travelling to hamburg. I have 1hour52min time to transfer and catch my connecting flight to hamburg. Do you think this is enough time? Do you have any idea which terminal I'm arriving and from which terminal I'm departing? I'm flying with united from bogota and also to hamburg. Do I have to pick up the luggage even if it's the same company I'm traveling with? Heeeeelppppppp and thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time. Both flights will likely be in terminal c, but you may arrive in terminal b. Yes, you have to claim your baggage to go through US customs then re-check it at the transfer desk.

  • From Heathrow to Orlando Via Newrk

I will be flying in from London Heathrow to arrive at Newark on Sunday at 2pm with just 90 minutes to catch my connection to Orlando. My question is which terminal do flights from London usually land in, and does the baggage have to be re checked in at all times, even if there is no need to change terminals. I will be flying to Orlando from terminal C.

You could arrive in terminal b or c. Yes, you have to claim your baggage to go through customs regardless of terminal. You can re-check it t the transfer desk immediately after customs. You barely have enough time.

From Orlando to Newark by United, landing at terminal C. Then to go to terminal B to catch Lufthansa. Less than 2 hours time will we make it?

Flying from Orlando by United, to go to India via Newark by Lufthansa. Security clearance neede?

Follow signs at the airport. United does operate a shuttle bus inside security.

  • Connecting time from Term. B to A
    Jan 7, 2015

Hi, I´ll be travelling with United on March 19 ( a Thursday) from Berlin , Germany via Newark to Charleston, SC with my 6 year old. The flight times have just been changed so the connecting time will be only 1:35, including immigration and baggage. Arrival is Term. B, connecting flight Term. B. United says that should be enough time..I´m a bit sceptical. Should I run the risk or book a later flight to Charelston 6,5 hrs. later? Anybody with some good advice?

I think you have a good chance of making it. However, note that the flight from Berlin to Newark frequently makes a fuel stop and arrives several hours late during the winter. Because of that you might want to ask for the later flight, which they should give you because of the schedule change.

Thanks for the prompt reply! A fuel stop? I was under the impression it was a direct flight? How often does this happen? Yes, they would give me the later flight if I change my mind within the next 2 days, but they also said I could take the risk of missing the earlier flight and then change to the later flight if I don´t make it. It is really hard to decide at this point.

Yes, the Berlin-Newark flight makes a fuel stop about half the time and arrives 2-3 hours late during the winter. Yes those are your options.

Hi ZAP,sorry to ask again, but I just realized that the connecting flight to CHS will be out of Terminal A, arrival from Berlin in B. Assuming there´s no need for a fuel stop (March 19 is almost spring, at least in Europe), and the kid and I really hurry, is there nevertheless the realistic chance of making the connection? Which means of transport do I take between terminals and where do I re-check in our luggage?

P.S Connecting time was 92 minutes

  • Terminal Connection A-C

Hi there, I'm travelling in from Toronto landing at terminal A (Air Canada) I am having to transfer to terminal C to fly to Glasgow (United) What is the best way of doing this terminal change - Train or Bus? Do I need to clear security and customs to do this transit? Where does the bus/train leave from? Thanks for your help in advance

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Toronto. In Newark, you can't make that transfer inside security as the United shuttle bus from A to C leaves from a different pier of A than your Air Canada flight will arrive at. So the best route for you will be to take the AirTrain from A to C, then go through security and to your departure gate. Follow signs to the train.

    Thanks

  • minimum time for connecting flight to flight

I am from Costa Rica. It is this enough time for a connection at Newark Airport? or is it too risky? United Airlines - (UA) 1081 12:35pm, Thu Jan 15 • San Jose (SJO) 6:45pm, Thu Jan 15 • Newark (EWR) Layover: 1h 50m in Newark United Airlines - (UA) 82 8:35pm, Thu Jan 15 • Newark (EWR) 9:20pm, Fri Jan 16 • Delhi (DEL)

That is probably enough time. Both flights will be in Terminal C, but you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs and security in between flights.

i am flying from Boston to Shanghai through Newark, both taking United Airlines. will arive at terminal C at 8:48am and leave at 9:55am at the same terminal. Do i have enough time to go through the US customers and security ?

You do not have to go through US Customs and secondary security when leaving the US. All you have to do in Newark on your way to Shanghai is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time.

I will be flying with United Airlines leaving Calgary Canada, going thru Newark with final destination Orlando. I land at terminal c and have 30 minutes to get to terminal a for my connection. Will this be enough time? Thanks

I am on united the whole trip I actually land at A and fly out of C. Will my luggage be put thru to orlando or do I have to collect it at Newark

Note that your first flight will be operated by Air Canada. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary. In Newark you do not have to do anything with your baggage, just take the AirTrain from Terminal A to Terminal C and go through security. 30 minutes is barely enough time.
