  • PVD-EWR-HAM Domestic to International Layover

Ive never done an international flight through EWR before. I was wondering, If I check my bag through at PVD then continue on my United Airways flight to EWR, During my hour and a half layover at EWR do I need to go through a security check? im just afraid my layover isnt long enough before reaching my gate to Hamburg Germany.

Both of your flights should be in Terminal C. All gates in Terminal C are connected inside security, so you will not have to go through security in Newark. Even if you were to arrive in Terminal A, there is a bus that United operates on the secure-side between Terminal A and Terminal C. You have enough time.

  • EWR to GRR w/30 minute Connection

Flying from BOS to EWR to Grand Rapids, MI with only a 30 minute connection when I land in EWR. Is that enough time to make my connection? I can't tell which terminal the Boston flight flies into and which terminal the GR flight flies out of

That will be very difficult considering your Boston flight will likely arrive into Terminal C and your Grand Rapids flight will definitely depart from Terminal A. United does run a shuttle inside security between the two terminals but it isn't exactly quick. If your flight from Boston is operated by United Express, though, it may arrive in Terminal A, which would leave you enough time to make the connection, assuming it's on-time.

The flight is operated by United Express

Hello We are travelling with united from Halifax NS to Costa Rica With a 55 minute transfer in Newark. How do I get from terminal a to terminal c, while staying within the secure section? Do I take the shuttle bus near gate a 28? What level should I be on? I don't have any time to make mistakes.

There are signs pointing to where the shuttle bus is when you arrive in A or if you don't see them ask a United employee.

  • Skip final leg- Newark luggage question
    Feb 11, 2015

Hi I am flying United from Punta Cana-Newark-Boston. We have decided to skip the Newark to Boston leg of the flight. My concern is getting my luggage in Newark. Is it true that since it is an international flight, I will have to get my luggage anyway? Can I just leave at that point? If I do it officially, united will charge me change fees for 4 people totally over $800. So, I need to confirm that I will have my luggage in hand due to it being an international flight? Is this true?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags anyway. Yes, as long as the Newark-Boston leg is the last leg of your trip, you can leave the airport in Newark after you claim your bags and go through Customs.

  • Connecting from Terminal A to Terminal C International to Domestic

Hello we are arriving from London ON Canada into Newark Term A and then connecting to a Flight to Fort Lauderdale Departing Term C Will we have to handle our baggage ? We have approx. 2.5 hour layover I don't believe there is any US Customs Clearance in London Thanks

You will actually arrive in Terminal C because neither London, ON or Terminal A have US Customs facilities. In Terminal C you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • Domestic Connection both in Terminal C

Hello! In a few weeks I will be flying LAX-EWR then from EWR-BQN with a 35 minute layover. Do both of these flights usually depart from terminal C. If so, I anticipate the connection going smoothly. If I have to switch terminals, however, it may be tough. Thanks for your response!

My apologies, I meant does the LAX-EWR leg usually arrive in terminal C and the EWR-BQN leg depart from terminal C?

Yes, both of those flights should be in Terminal C.

  • Transit from international to domestic flight
    Feb 6, 2015

Hi I am travelling from BGO to ORF via OSL and EWR with my 5-year old son this upcoming April. Because of a flight schedule change, our transit time in Newark has been reduced to only 90 minutes. This is less time than I am comfortable with, but the cost of changing the ticket to a later flight to ORF is quite steep. Thus, I just have a few questions: 1. If I explain to the airport staff in the immigration hall that my son and I have a tight connection, is it possible that they may let us get priority in the immigration queue? My family and I had a tight connection at LHR a few months ago, and the staff there were very helpful and let us go through fast-track lanes so that we didn't miss our connecting flight. But does anyone have any experience with the staff at EWR and know how they might respond to such a request? 2. I understand that my son and I have to collect and re-check our luggage after we have cleared immigration. We will arrive in Terminal B and depart from Terminal A. Do we need to bring our luggage all the over to Terminal A and check it at a regular check-in counter? Or does there exist a drop-point in Terminal B we may use? I have not had a transit at EWR for many years, so I do not know what the current procedue is for international to domestic transit at this airport, and since we will be in a rush it would be great to know about this in advance. 3. Are there any other tips that might be useful for me to keep in mind so that we might catch our connecting flight? Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated!

Unless your flight is late you likely will not need priority in the Immigration queue. Also, most of the passengers on your flight will have connections, so asking to cut in front of them isn't really fair. You will be able to re-check your bags at a desk in Terminal B immediately after you go through Customs. I think you have enough time but it does depend on your first flight being on-time.

Thanks a lot for your response! Yes, I get your point about cutting in line not being fair, but from experience, quite a lot of passengers on the OSL - EWR flight have New York as their final destination. But you are right that cutting is not fair. I will hope that immigration goes smoothly and that there are no delays. And that if we are unluck and miss the connection, UA will be able to put us on a later flight that day. Thanks again!

  • Domestic Transfer

I will have a connection flying from Montana to Newark with a connection of 45 minutes to then fly to Pittsburgh. I'm guessing that this will be enough time since both flights are domestic but I wasn't sure.

Yes, it should be, however, you may have to transfer from terminal C to Terminal A. There is a bus that runs between them inside security, but if your inbound flight is delayed and you do have to change terminals, you'll probably have a tough time making your connection.

  • Question about connection time in EWR
    Feb 5, 2015

I am planning to arrive in EWR via United from Orlando and then connect to a United flight to Delhi. Whether a connection time of one and half hours enough?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate which will both be in Terminal C.

Flying into EWR on United into Terminal A and then flying out on Swiss Air from Terminal B. I will have to pick up bags and then recheck them through Swiss Air in Terminal B. What is best way to get from baggage claim in Terminal A to Terminal B?

The only way between them is the AirTrain.

This August, we are scheduled to arrive on Lufthansa from FRA @ 3:45pm, connecting to LAS on United departing @ 5:30. We have Global Entry and TSA pre-check. Is there enough time to make our connection or should we switch to the 7:30 United flight?

Yes, with Global Entry and PreCheck I think that is definitely enough time.

I will be taking a flight from Chicago O Hare to Newark to Mumbai. I have a one hour connection between the Ohare flight and the Mumbai flight. Will I make it? Do I need to go through security again once I arrive in Newark?

That should be enough time if your first flight is on-time. All you have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Pick up bags?

I am flying with United Airlines from Ecuador (stopping in Panama) to Newark, arriving 3:20 PM in terminal C. My flight with SAS to Copenhagen from terminal B departs at 5:30 PM. Two dif purchased flights. Do I have to do migration, pick up bag, go to the other terminal, check in and do security? Or will my bag go directly to CPH and I'm just able to go to the other terminal from inside the airport (no migration)? Will I make it?

You can ask the Copa agent in Ecuador and show him your SAS confirmation. However, they are not obligated to check your bag through. And either way, you will have to claim your bag in Newark to go through US Customs. If it is tagged through to CPH then you can drop it at the re-check desk, but yes, if they only tag it through to EWR you will have to take it to the SAS counter in Terminal B. Every passenger arriving in the US has to go through US Immigration, even if they are connecting on elsewhere.

  • Flying domestic into terminal A and transfer to terminal B for Zurich

United express lands at 8.30 pm and Swiss Airlines departs at 10.00PM then what is the best way to go from terminal A to B without security. Does the shuttle bus is just between the terminals or to other places too. its a one ticket so i think i dont have to recheck them. Please advise Thanks, also provide information if available from B terminal which gate Swiss airlines operate for Zurich Thanks .

Yes, the shuttle bus is the only connection inside security. The shuttle bus takes you to the same part of Terminal B where the Swiss flight departs. It appears to use gate B67.

Thanks for replying could you please tell me the frequency of bus and from which A gate i get the bus within the security

The bus runs once every 10 minutes or so. The bus leaves from near A28.

What if my flight was not united. Can I still take this bus shuttle to terminal b from a. Does the bus leaves from level 2? Since arrivals are level 2 ? Does this runs only between terminals a b an d c or it goes to other parking garages too ? Thanks

The bus does not go to parking garages, the AirTrain does. The Bus only operates from the United Express pier of Terminal A. If you are not flying United Express you need to exit security and take the airtrain and go back through security in B.

  • connection to sacramento

Hi- flying from newcastle UK to sacramento all on united , when I land at Newark and go through immigration will I have to pick up my cases or will they go direct on to the next flight because it is the same carrier ( united) , also is 2 hours long enough to go through immigration and get to my departure terminal

Yes, in Newark you will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then you can re-check your bags at the transfer desk. Your next flight will depart from Terminal A or C. If you arrived at Terminal B you will have to take the AirTrain to your departure terminal. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.
