  • Arriving at C96 and departing from C121

I have a flight from Atlanta to New Delhi with a lay over at NEwark. I will arrice at c96 gate and will take the connecting flight from C121. I am worried if i have to go through security check and baggage claim process?

No, all you will have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Thanks you for the reply. Will I be able to make it in 40 mins? The lay over is only for 40 mins

Yes, if your first flight is on-time 40 minutes is enough time. However there are frequently delays at Newark.

I am planning a trip from BFS to LAX with air canada this involves a stop at EWR - I have 3 hrs 25 mins between connecting flights is this enough time? Coming home I have 1 hr 50 min between connecting flights is this enough?

Yes, both of those connections should be more than enough time.

  • Germany to Tampa via EWR

I have a choice between a 1 hour 10 min or a 4 hour 15 min layover in EWR. The flight arrives from Germany at 2:15 EST. All flights are serviced by United. We will have a toddler with us, which means that we will be limited to non-running speed to get from gate to gate. From what I've read so far, after arriving we will have to clear immigration at EWR (we are US citizens), re-check our checked in luggage before proceeding to the next gate, and clear security again. Will 1 hour 10 mins be sufficient to do all the above given our travel description?

1 hr 10 mins is not a legal International -> Domestic connection in EWR.

According to United's website, it is an option. Stuttgart to Tampa - Flight UA153. Then flight UA1148 (EWR to TPA). By not legal, does this mean that United should not be offering this flight?

First make sure you have the times right as I have never noticed United.com selling an illegal connection. But that is correct, they should not sell an international->domestic connection in EWR shorter than 90 minutes.

  • Arriving with Domestiv flight "A", departure International "C"

Hi I am landing with a domestic UA flight into termina "A" and I have 53 minutes till my departure internation flight from terminal "C". What do I need to do, meaning is there a security check /passport control /baggade claim and recheck in to do? Should i use the airtrain or the shuttle?

If you use United's shuttle bus you won't have to go through security to make your transfer, therefore that's what you should do. If you used the AirTrain you'd have to go through security in Terminal C. There are no immigration procedures when arriving on a domestic flight.

So where do i do immigration?

I understand there is no immigration when landing domestic flight but it should be when leaving international flight, right? If yes, where do i handle that one?

No, there is no immigration upon departure of an International flight from the US. You will go through immigration for the country you are traveling to when you arrive in that country.

I am traveling to switzerland. So how will US know i lest the american soil?

They get a report from the airline, which has your passport number.

Thank you. I have done this trip mid march without any issue

  • united security shuttle sign?
    Mar 5, 2014

My mom is a senior who does not speak English. She is making a connection in EWR, arriving at Terminal A and leaving from Terminal C, both on United. I did my homework and it seems straightforward to take the security shuttle. However, as she does not speak or read English, I am not sure how she can find where to take the shuttle. So the shuttle is near Gate A28. Does she go out through Gate A28? Or there is another door for the shuttle stop? Is there a sign for the shuttle that she can look out for? Or better, any one happens to take a picture of the sign? Thanks.

I have a United flight from Toronto to Hong Kong through Newark with 1hr1min between flights. Arrival is in terminal A, departure is in terminal C of Newark. Is it possible to make the connection (I'm told there is a shuttle bus for United)? United tells me I do not need to recheck baggage, but need to go through customs. Is it possible to go through US customs pre-clearance in Toronto for this? Thanks.

You will go through US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. So all you have to do in Newark is take the shuttle bus from Terminal A to Terminal C and to your gate. It shouldn't take more than 20-25 minutes.

    Thank you!

We will arrive to Newark at 7h38 (from Quebec City) by EXPRESSJET AIRLINES DBA UNITED EXP. We have to past the US custom. The next fligh for Punta Cana is at 9h03 by United. Will we have enough time for the connection? Thank you!

It will be pretty tough, the minimum Intl -> Intl connect time at EWR is 90 minutes, which you have slightly less than. However, Immigration lines shouldn't be too bad at that time of the morning and both of your flights will be in Terminal C at least.

Hi we travel 10 October this year from Manchester to newark arriving terminal b and then newark to Orlando from terminal c, we have 2 hours 5 minutes to connect and both my parents are in their late 60s will we have enough time? Can someone explain the transit process at this airport please? Thanks in advance

If you come into Terminal B (you may also come into Terminal C), you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then re-check your baggage with United. Then, if you arrived in Terminal B, you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C. Once in Terminal C you will go through security and to your gate. 2 hrs 5 mins should be enough time if your flight from Manchester is on time.

Thank you so much, all sounds a bit confusing!

Arrival Newark terminal B on UA961 from Brussels on 03/03 12:30 Departure for houston from terminal C on UA1232 on 03/03 14:00 Please tell me I have enough time :-) Thanks ( does houston have a similar service to this great forum ? )

Yes you have enough time. While Terminal C (TC) of EWR Airport is exclusively used by United & United Express airlines - however, domestic flights of United Express also use Gate Area A2 in Terminal A). International Arrivals go through passport control and customs clearance, re-check in their bags & may proceed to their connecting gate. If your connection is in TA, take the shuttle bus at gateway C1, near gate C71, where you arrive at TA at gate A28. For both EWR & Houston airports (IAH or HOU?) I suggest you open www.ifly.com/iah (or hou) then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

We fly YHZ-EWR-BZE on united Airlines March 2. Will will be doing US pre clearance in Halifax prior to departure. Out connection is 55mins. Is this doable? Will we be arriving and departing from the same terminal?

Yes, that should be enough time. You may arrive in Terminal A, which may require you taking United's shuttle bus to Terminal C, which runs inside security. Your flight to BZE will depart from Terminal C.

While United uses Terminal C exclusively for United & United Express flights, it also uses Terminal A for some United Express flights (at gate area A2). If arriving at TA - take the shuttle bus near gate A28 to Terminal C's gateway 1, near gate C71. For detailed terminal information, open www.ifly.com/ewr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Quebec City/EWR Connection to Aruba

I have 4 passengers arriving from Quebec City into EWR on a UA fight at 7:50 AM. Their UA flight to Aruba leaves at 9:04 AM. Will this be enough time for them to clear immigration at EWR as Quebec City Airport doesn't do US pre-clearance. Please advise.

That will be very difficult. Minimum intl -> intl connect time at EWR is 90 mins.

  • Terminal B connecting flights

Hi my parents would arrive at Terminal B at 7.55 am. And they have a connecting flight at 11.00 am from Terminal B to Cincinnati. They have 3 hrs time at Newark. Is this enough to catch their flight. Also do we have a quick connect pass in Newark like JFK.

3 hrs transfer time is plenty. Note, however, that Terminal B serves only international arrivals & departures. Terminal A is the domestic terminal; Terminal C is only for United - which uses also TA for some of its United Express flights. After customs clearance and baggage recheck-in the Airtrain will take them to the connecting terminal, where they will have to go through security check before proceeding to their gate.

  • From Terminal B to C going through customs

I will arrive from Munich at 7pm arriving to terminal B, and I have another flight at 9pm in terminal C. Will I make it!??!?!?! Please give me some help to make sure I will do it.

On arrival at EWR, at Terminal B, you need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag where indicated. Then take the frequent Airtrain on the gate level of TB to TC, go through security check & on to your connecting gate. There are 3 gate areas: C1 (gates C70-99); C2 (gates C101-C115); & C3 (gates C120-139). Count on at least one hour gate-to-gate transfer.

It will be impossible then? The air train takes me to where in Terminal C? What do you suggest? Thank you, Emilia

No, 2 hours is doable for this transfer. The AirTrain station in Terminal C is outside the check-in area.

  • Connection and immigration

we are flying from BFS-EWR-MCO. We have a 4 hour connection in EWR both flights with United. Do we have to collect our luggage and check it in again? Do we go through immigration in EWR or MCO? Will we have to change terminals? I have never flown into EWR. Thanks

On the way to Orlando, in Newark, you will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, and go through US Customs then re-check your bags. Your flight to Orlando will depart from C. If you arrive in B you should take the AirTrain to C then go through security and to your gate. If you arrive in C then you can just go up to the departure level, through security and to your gate. On your return trip, you will not have to do any immigration until you get back to Belfast and both flights should be in Terminal C in EWR. 4 Hours should be plenty of time for both connections.

Thank you for a great response, eases my worries as we have 3 young kids with us.

We have a connection which was 45 minutes, now with a Delay to departure of 20 minutes we are down to 25 minutes. What is the estimated time to get from Terminal A Concourse a2 Gate 08 to Terminal C Concourse C1 gate C84. Thanks !

15-20 minutes via the United shuttle bus, but there's a chance your departing flight will be delayed too. So you may be OK.
