Hello, I ll be on a 1h40 transfer in Newark, arriving from Brussels on a Lufthansa flight and then taking a flight to Panama with UA for another transfer before getting to my final destination Costa Rica. Do I have to go through customs? Or just walk straight to my next flight? Do I have enough time to catch my flight? Thank you for your help. Regards Aude

Both flights will be on United. Yes, in Newark you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, possibly take the AirTrain to Terminal C, then go through security and to your departure gate. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

Hi, I have a connecting flight to LAX (from Europe). SAS coming in, UA going out, one reservation. How long time does it take to get from terminal B to terminal C? Do I have to collect my bags etc? I have a 1:35 hours transition window.

Yes, you will arrive in B, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then take the AirTrain to Terminal C, and go through security. You have barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

hello, a client will transfer in Newark (arriving with UA from Hong Kong, departing with Copa to Panama), with seperate tickets and he only has1 hour transit time. is this enough? does he need to claim his luggage? thanks

No, he does not have enough time and that's completely impossible. You need to rebook him. He will have to go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, then possibly take the AirTrain to Terminal B, then re-check his bags with Copa then go through security. It's completely impossible to do that in an hour.

  • Chicago to Newark to Edinburgh

Hello, I have a connection time of 1 hour 5 mins in Newark. I will be arriving from Newark from Chicago (eta 8.45pm) and going to Edinburgh (flight leaves at 9.50pm). Judging by recent United flights, I should arrive at Terminal C and depart from Terminal C. Is this enough time? Do we just need to get off the Chicago flight and make our way to our departure gate? (No security or checked baggage?)

Yes, that is enough time if the flight from Chicago is on-time. Yes, all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

    Thanks Zap!

Hi I am arriving at Newark terminal B from Europe (SAS flight) and will continue from terminal A to San Diego. Do I need to claim my luggage and recheck at terminal B? Is the air train the most simplest way to go between the terminals or can you walk between? Best

What airline are you flying to San Diego? You will have to claim your bags to go through US Customs. Are your tickets purchased on one reservation or two separate reservations?

Ok thanks. I have made one reservation SAS to US and Alaska airlines to San diego.

OK, then you will arrive in Terminal B, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal A, get your Alaska boarding pass if SAS can't issue it, and go through security.

I have connecting flight to Vancouver, Air Canada, flight AC549, at 19:00. Will I have to clear customs/security at EWR, how to get to AC gate? Distance? Will I make my connection?

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal A and go through security and to your departure gate. I do not think you have enough time for your connection. 90 minutes would be the bare minimum.

i'm flying United in from Pittsburgh to EWR and then flying out with SAS. I have a 1 hour window for connection. Is this enough time? Do I have to go back through security?

That is just enough time if everything goes smoothly. United does run a shuttle bus inside security from their terminals A and C to the SAS gates in B.

I have a flight from milwaukee to Newark and then a flight to edinburgh: both flights are with united airlines: do I need to read-check my baggage? Are the arrival and departure terminals the same? Also, do I need to go through immigration again? Thank you!

You do not have to re-check your bags. There is no US Immigration when leaving the US. You just have to go from your arrival gate. You will likely arrive in Terminal A and depart from Terminal C. United runs a shuttle bus between them inside security.

Thank you! So if I'm arriving at terminal A, where do I go to get a shuttle to terminal C? Also, my baggage I don't need to collect it? Will it be transported for my next flight?

  • 46 mins layover between flights

I'm going from SFO to EWR and flying with United Airlines. From EWR I have a connecting flight to ANU with a layover of 46 minutes. I'm arriving on UA1796 and have to get on UA1287. Do I need to go to different terminals? And will I have to claim my baggage? Thank you.

Both flights will be in Terminal C. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if the flight from SFO is on-time.

  • Flying domestic into EWR, then International to NAS

I am coming in United Express from GRR to EWR, then going out on United international to NAS, but only have 45 minutes between flights. Is this going to be enough time? Didn't have a lot of other options.

It is sufficient time if everything goes perfectly. You will likely fly into Terminal A and depart from Terminal C. There is a shuttle bus between them that runs inside security. You have no time to spare.

  • Exit terminal from international flight?

Hi, I'm flying United to EWR from Lima and connecting from there to a Delta flight to my final destination in DTW. I bought a few liquid items at duty free and am inquiring if I am going to have to leave the terminal after immigration and go through security again for my connecting flight, therefore not being able to bring my duty free items home. Can anyone confirm how immigration works in EWR please? Thank you!

Yes, you will have to go through security again in Newark. If you have a checked bag, put your liquids in your checked bag before re-checking it with Delta. If you aren't checking a bag, you can't bring duty free liquids.

How do I get from TA to TC

If your first flight is on United Express then you can take a shuttle bus inside security. If it's on another airline, then you need to take the AirTrain, which runs outside security.

  • Connection Delta and Sas

I am looking at a flight with Delta from MCI arriving 15.40 at EWR. I have an international fllight with SAS leaving for Oslo leaving 18.55 the same day. This is not the same reservation so I reckon I will have to claim my bags at EWR an re-ceck them with SAS? Will the 2.15 stop-over be enough time?

Delta does not fly from Kansas City to Newark. Please double check your reservation.

Yes you're correct. There's a transfer in Detroit. So Delta from Detroit arriving at EWR 15.40.

OK, then it's possible - if you depart at 18:55 you have 3 hrs and 15 minutes, not 2 hrs and 15 minutes, which is enough time to claim bags from Delta, re-check with SAS, and go through security. 2 hrs 15 minutes is a little more difficult but still possible. Both flights are in Terminal B.

  • EWR Terminal to Airtrain

I have a flight from YVR to EWR on United. I think I will be arriving at either Terminal B or C. I've looked at the map of EWR Terminal B, but it seems like the Airtrain is sectioned off? If I land in Terminal B, go down to the the Arrivals Level to pick up my baggage, will I be able to just easily go back up to the Concourse level to board the Airtrain? or do I have to check-in somewhere beforehand? Thanks!

If your flight is operated by United you will almost definitely arrive in Terminal C. You don't have to "check in" to ride the airtrain, regardless of what terminal you arrive in.

Thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify, does this mean that when I get off the plane, I go down to the lower level to claim my baggage, then head back up to the upper level to board the airtrain?

    That is correct.

Great! Thank you so much :)

My kids reaching at terminal A and need to connect into international flight at terminal C. How to go about this without going through security again.
