I'll be flying from Vancouver to Dublin via Newark. I have a 1 hour 48 min layover in Newark. Will this be enough to make my connection? And will I have to check my bags in again or will they be checked in for the entire journey? Both flights are with United.

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Vancouver. All you will have to do in Newark is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate, both in Terminal C. You have plenty of time.

  • Baggage assistance with terminal change
    Jun 9, 2015
My senior citizen parents are flying from Boston to Newark on JetBlue, then transfering to El Al to fly to Tel Aviv. The two flights are on different tickets, so they will have to claim their bags and bring them to the international terminal. They have plenty of time between flights, but they will have a lot of baggage, and will have difficulty bringing everything from the baggage claim to the AirTrain and then from the AirTrain to the international ticket counter. How can they arrange for assistance with this?

There is no way they can arrange for it. They can either try to find a skycap or they can pack a foldable luggage cart in their luggage.

How about this: They rent a luggage cart at the domestic terminal and bring it on the AirTrain (is that allowed)? If not allowed, could they bring it to the AirTrain stop and then just bring the bags 3 feet into the train? Then, when they get off the train, one of them could sit with the bags while the other one goes to the terminal and rents a luggage cart, and brings it back to the AirTrain station, loads the bags, and brings them to the ticket counter. Would something like that work?

You aren't allowed to bring rental carts on the airtrain.

Not even to the platform? If so, then what else can they do? Maybe take a taxi from one terminal to the other?

Hi! I have a flight from MSP coming into Newark on 6-17 at 6:27 pm. My connecting flight to OSL leaves at 8:05pm. I am flying United and I booked my tickets together. Will there be enough time to get through security, customs, etc? Additionally, will I have enough time to get my luggage checked an hour before take off like United requires?

You do not go through Customs when leaving the US. If both flights are on United all you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will depart from Terminal C. You may arrive in Terminal A or C. United runs a shuttle bus inside security between their gates in A and C. You should have plenty of time if your flight from MSP is on-time.

Thank you for the speedy reply!

  • Leaving the U.S. trough EWR
    Jun 3, 2015
Hey guys, I fly back to Germany and my flights are West Palm Beach with UA to EWR (arrival terminal C) EWR with Lufthansa to FRA (leaving EWR at terminal B) Do I have to worry about my checked in luggage? It should be fine in theory... And now long does it take me to get from C to B? And is there something interesting on that way? I got 5hour time... Is there a second TSA check? Thank you! David

No, you will not have to do anything with your luggage in Newark on your way back to Germany. To get to Terminal B you can either take a shuttle bus inside security or take the AirTrain outside security, which requires you go through TSA again.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Immigration in Newark or LA
    Jun 1, 2015
Hi! I will be arriving in Newark from Mumabi on UA49 in terminal C. I have a connecting flight from terminal C to Los Angeles. The layover is 1h 20 mins. Will I have to go through immigration in Newark and check-in my baggage again? If so, is 1h 20 mins enough time? Thanks!

Yes, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, and then go through security and to your departure gate. 1 hr 20 mins is 10 minutes shorter than the recommended time. It's possible, especially if your flight from Mumbai is early, however, even if you miss your connection there are many flights from EWR to LAX that you can be rebooked on.

  • Terminal c to terminal b

We are arriving at Newark from Florida to Terminal C. We are heading to Oslo on SAS from termainal B. Is there a shuttle or bus that will keep us inside the security area.?

There is a bus inside security and I believe it does service the B gates that SAS uses.

  • Paris - Newark - Toronto connection
    Jun 1, 2015
I'm traveling from Paris and have a 9 hour connection in Newark before heading to Toronto. I assume I will have to collect my bags to take through customs in Newark. After this is done am I able to leave the airport to go into the city and then return to check in and go through security for my Toronto flight? I'd rather not spend 9 hours at the airport.

Yes, once toy clear customs you are in the United States and free to go where you want.

  • connecting flight

I will be travilling from Stockholm with SAS and is connecting to Boston with United Airlines. Do I need to retrive my luggage and check it in at terminal C

You will need to retrieve your luggage to go through US Customs. If you purchased your tickets on one reservation you can then drop it at the re-check desk right after customs.

  • Time between flights
    Jun 6, 2015
Arriving into Newark from London on British airways at 1.15pm (priority seating), have a connecting domestic flight to Boston at 3.22pm... Will that leave us enough time ?

Forgot to mention: Connecting domestic flight is with United.

Oops: also forgot to mention we will be arriving on a Sunday, not sure if that makes a difference to the timeframes!

That should be barely enough time. You can check in online for your United flight to save a bit of time.

Is online check in with United 24 hours prior?

  • How long to get from terminal a to c I have 1.5 hours

    Newark terminal 3

Sorry should have said arriving terminal c leaving to greensboro terminal a will I have to clear customs as it's done this side thank you

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Ireland. All you have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. United runs a shuttle bus between their gates in C and A. you have enough time.

  • Connecting flight change....
    May 30, 2015
I had booked a flight from Birmingham (UK) BHX to EWR with a connecting flight to MCO for this Summer both arriving and departing in the same Terminal (I think). I have now had a connecting flight change (by UA without us knowing) but I don't know what terminal this flies from. I arrive on UA26 and connect to UA1027, this has a longer wait time in between, which I can live with, but I am now concerned about customs, baggage claim etc. and what I exactly need to do when I arrive in order to board the next flight.... wherever it departs from! any ideas? Thanks :)

You will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk. If you arrived at Terminal B you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C. Then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal C. The minimum time to do this is 90 minutes but I recommend about 2 hours.

  • Delayed flight
    May 28, 2015
Hi, my husband is traveling from AMS to SFO with a connecting flight at EWR. Flight from AMS was delayed by 2.5 hours. He arrives EWR at 2:24pm and flight to SFO is at 3pm. Does he have to go through immigration at EWR? If he is not able to make his connecting flight to SFO what does he have to do? There is only one booking for this flight, and it's a united flight. Thanks.

Yes, in EWR he will have to go through US Immigration, claim his bags, go through US Customs, then re-check his bag at the transfer desk, then go through security. He will be rebooked on a later flight to San Francisco. In fact, if you log in to his itinerary on United.com you can probably see if he already has.

  • Short time at EWR
    May 28, 2015
Hi, my plane with United airlines from Oslo/Norway is delayed. I'm arriving terminal c Newark liberty at 16:00. My plane to port Columbus (via Charlotte ) has departure 17:25 at terminal a. I guess i have to pick up my luggage. Do i have enough time? How can I Get to terminal A fastest?

You may actually arrive in Terminal B. The only way from Terminal B or C to A is the AirTrain. You will have a very hard time making this.

  • Best way to go from terminal A to B
    May 27, 2015
Hi, my son comes in on an American flight at 9:03 and has a departing international flight out of terminal B on a different airline. What is the quickest way for him to accomplish this? Can you confirm that he has to claim his luggage and go through security again.

What airport? Were his tickets purchased separately or together? What is the second airline?

Flying from Chicago to Newark on AA arriving 9:03. Outbound flight is Et Al and leaves at 1:30 and no they were not purchased together.

Yes, he will have to claim his bags in Terminal A, then take them on the AIrTrain to Terminal B and check them at the El Al check-in counter. He should have enough time.

  • Time between terminal A to an international flight on Terminal B
    May 27, 2015
Going to Copenhagen on 5/28; arriving at EWR on Southwest 3487 at 15:55 at Terminal A - Carry on luggage only. SAS just changed my flight to a 17:40 departure. Can we make it? how to go from one terminal to other, any help will be appreciated,

With carry-on only you should be OK if your Southwest flight is on-time. The AirTrain connects terminals A and B outside security.
