I have an hour and 4 minute lay over in Newark arriving from halifax, Canada in terminal A, we have a connecting flight to South Carolina in Terminal C... Is there sufficient time? Thanks

There's a good chance both flights will actually be in Terminal A, but even if your departure is from C, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Halifax.

I am flying from Miami to Tel Aviv through Newark this May. Both flights are United. The Miami flight arrives at 2pm and the TLV flight leaves at 4:30pm. Should that be enough time? Am I supposed to pick up the luggage and clear security again?

That will be plenty of time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. Both gates will be in Terminal C.

    Thank you! :)

I'm looking to book a flight from Austin to Edinburgh through United. The flight I'm looking at has a 48 minute window in EWR to change plans & make the international flight, is that enough time??

Your flight from Austin may arrive in either Terminal A or Terminal C. You will depart from Terminal C. If your first flight is on-time and arrives in Terminal C you probably would have enough time. If you arrive in Terminal A it will be difficult as you have to take a shuttle (which is slow but doesn't require going through security) or the AirTrain, which is fast but runs outside security, to Terminal C. It's somewhat risky.

Hi, I will be flying from Cleveland to EWR(terminl c) and EWR(terminal b) to Frankfurt. Is it easy to do the connections? I will need to collect my luggage and go through again? because i bought my tickets through Lufthansa but I will use United as well to come EWR but from EWR to Frankfurt I will fly with Lufthansa. Also, I have 2 hours do you think is this enough time?

You will not have to claim your bags in Newark, they will be transferred to your Lufthansa flight. United operates a shuttle bus from their gates in C terminal to the Lufthansa gates in Terminal B inside security. You will have plenty of time.

Is 2 hours 20 minutes sufficient time between flights into and out of EWR as above? Will I need to pass through immigration? customs?security? I think both flights use terminal C

Yes, in Newark you will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then if you arrived in Terminal B, take the AirTrain to Terminal C, then go through security and to your departure gate. You have enough time. Make sure that you complete ESTA if you are a citizen of a Visa Waiver Program country or get a US Transit Visa if you are not.

Hi. We arrive in terminal B from München, and have 1 hour 40 minutts to the next plane leaves in terminal C. (Bort flights are United) Do we have enough time? We need to go through costume border protection.

You will arrive in Terminal B or Terminal C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk, then if you arrived in Terminal B you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C then go through security and to your departure gate. You will barely have enough time if your first flight is on-time. There will be no additional immigration procedures upon arrival in San Juan because Puerto Rico is an American possession and considered part of the United States for travel purposes.

Hi - we are arriving from Turks and Caicos off United Airlines (terminal c) and have an onward flight to london on Virgin from terminal b. The united flight arrives at 6pm and the virgin flights leave at 1030pm but check in closes at 9.15pm. So we have 3 hours to transfer. Do we have to go through USA immigration again and customs only to check in again or is there a transit system? what is the easiest way to get between terminals with kids/bags? many thanks!

Yes, you will have to go through US Immigration and Customs when you arrive in Newark. The terminals are connected via the AirTrain. You should have enough time.

  • Transit from international to domestic

Hi, United Airlines just changed my flight rout from Copenhagen to Denver. I will now have 1 hour and 25 minutes from arrival to departure at Newark. I will fly in from Frankfurt, arrive at 02.14 pm, and departe for Denver at 03.40 pm. Will this be enough time? Will i have to claim my luggage, go through customs, security and check in my luggage again? Thank you for your help. Katrine

Yes, you will go through US Immigration, collect your baggage, go through US Customs, re-check your baggage at the transfer desk, then go through security and to your departure gate. 1 hr 25 minutes is 5 minutes below the minimum international to domestic connection time at Newark. You can contact your travel agent or United to request a later flight to Denver since it was an involuntary schedule change. There should be no fee for the change.

Is 1 hour 25 minutes adequate to transfer in Newark from Air Canada arriving from Vancouver to Lufthansa operated by United departing for Barcelona?

That should barely be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver. You need to take the AirTrain from Terminal A to Terminal C and go through security. Your bags will be transferred automatically.

Thanks - that's more or less what I expected

I arrive Terminal C and have 45 mins to connect to my departing flight in Terminal A. Is it possible to go from terminal C to A without having to go through security? How long does this typically take?

United does run a shuttle bus inside security between C and A, but it could take up to 20 minutes, so your first flight better be on-time if you have a chance of making your connection.

United just dropped my originally scheduled EWR to BWI flight after I return from Dublin. The newly assigned flight (on a puddle-jumper) departs 40 minutes after the scheduled landing time on the flight from DUB. I think this is all but impossible to do taking into account customs, different terminal, etc. Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing something. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Dublin. All you have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Tahnk you, ZAP! I feel better about that now...........

My daughter is coming into Newark from Stockholm with a baby. She is flying Continental and her connecting flight is also Continental. She will be coming into terminal C. After Customs does she need to get her bags and re-check them? If she's still in a Continental flight to Palm Beach I am hoping she doesn't. She has a 1:35 minute time frame. Thank you.

Continental Airlines no longer exists. It is called United Airlines and has been for the past 3 years. Yes, upon arrival in Newark she will have to go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, re-check her bags at the transfer desk, then if she arrived in Terminal B, take the AirTrain to Terminal C, then go through security. She barely has enough time if her first flight is on-time.

I am flying from CDG to FLL on United. I have 2h15 min layover. How long a walk is it from terminal B to terminal C? Will I have time? I am flying Business Class if that makes a difference.

You cannot walk from B to C. You take the AirTrain. The Airtrain itself takes less than 5 minutes. Yes 2 hrs 15 mins should be enough for your connection.

    Thank you!

I am flying from Heathrow into Newark then have a connecting flight to Syracuse all booked through United. I have a 96 minute connection time and am aware I need to collect my bags. Where do I recheck my bags and how to I go about transferring terminals and immigration and security?

You will arrive in Terminal B or C, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the transfer desk immediately after customs. Currently all flights to Syracuse depart from terminal A. So after you re-check your bags, follow signs to the airtrain to Terminal A. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate. You barely have enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I will arrive at terminal A from Miami, if I go up to the Airtran from Terminal A to Terminal C, how long the entire ride takes between the 2 terminals?

It shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.
