is 1.5 hours enough time to arrive by united at terminal c from florida and depart for edmonton at terminal c and if so where is the departure level in relation to the arrival level. Will i need to go through security again as i would have gone through it in florida.

Both of your flights are the same level. You do not have to go through security. You only have to walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You should have plenty of time.

  • RDU to Newark to Birmingham England
    Aug 10, 2014
Will be flying United from Rdu to Newark to birmingham England. Will I have to collect my luggage in Newark?

No, you will not. You do not go through US Immigration when leaving the US. All you will have to do in Newark is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you arrive in A, you can take United's shuttle bus on the secure side to Terminal C where your BHX flight will depart.

    Thank you so much Zap!

  • Customs and getting from Terminal C to Terminal A
    Aug 3, 2014
We are people travelling from Milan to EWR. Landing at 1:30pm and have connecting flight at 4:30pm at Terminal A. Enough time to get through customs and to Terminal A?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • Transit through EWR
    Aug 1, 2014
I am flying in from Toronto and transiting through EWR to London UK. I will pass through US customs in Toronto. Will I have to collect my bags and go through US customs again in EWR and check bag again?

No, your arrival into EWR will be like a domestic flight. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. If you are flying United you will arrive in Terminal A or C and depart from Terminal C.

If I fly in using Air Canada my outbound airline will be Virgin Atlantic. Does the above still apply?

You still don't have to go through US Immigration or customs on arrival. However if your tickets were not purchased together and your bags are not checked through to LHR you will have to claim them in Terminal A and take them on the AirTrain to Terminal B to check with Virgin Atlantic. Even if they are checked through, you will have to take the AirTrain to Terminal B, get your Virgin Atlantic boarding pass, and go through security.

Many thanks for the feedback - great service

  • Connection Madrid-Newark-Lima
    Jul 31, 2014
I travel to Newark just to make a transfer to Lima, Peru. Only 1:50 hours from landing to departure. Considering that I am not travelling to any other USA destiny, do I need to follow same security protocols than trips to USA? Is it 1:50 enough for transfer? Thank you

    Flying with United. Thanks

Yes, even though you are traveling onwards you still have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags with United and go through security. You should have enough time if your first flight is on-time.

  • Connection flight for two hours
    Jul 31, 2014
I am about to buy a flight from Mexico to Washington DC with a two hours connection flight in EWR. I wonder if that is enough time to go by immigration, luggage, change terminals. In the past, I have spend almost four hours changing planes in Dallas, TX, and now I am afraid if two hours is a short amount of time. Thanks.

I am flying with United (all the way)

2 hours should be enough time if your first flight is on-time.

flying Delta from SFO to EWR with a 7 hr layover then flying SAS from EWR to FCO. Can I use a United 1 day pass for the TC united club? I have 1 check in bag. How do I get to TC. Airtran or airside shuttle?

Yes, you can use your one day pass. Also, SAS does not fly from EWR to FCO nonstop, so you if you are flying nonstop your flight will actually be operated by United. you will have to take the Airtrain to TC because the airside shuttle does not operate to or from the area where the Delta gates are.

The EWR to FCO is NOT a nonstop flight. Hopefully can ck my bag to SAS (7 hrs. prior to flight) then take Airtrain to United club @ TC. Since I fly in and out of TB can I get a gate pass to TC United club? I have a United one time pass.

Just called United club and was told no gate pass allowed for a United one time pass.Only allowed for a United club member. BTW, when I return to EWR from Europe, is 1.5 hrs enough time to go thru customs, p/u luggage & get to P4 to catch the last hotel shuttle? Ramada Jersey City last shuttle 10:30 pm. I have US passport

You will have an onward boarding pass for travel out of Newark that day, so you don't need a gate pass. Yes, 1.5 hours should be enough time to make your shuttle.

So I can show my SAS boarding pass at TC and get thru security even though I depart from TB?

  • Terminal Connection
    Jul 30, 2014
Hi,coming from Milano Malpensa to Las Vegas, flight UA Terminal C, 1,5 hour layover at EWR, is it enough?

1.5 Hours is the minimum allowed time for that connection. So you should be OK if your flight from Milan is on-time but you won't have much time to spare. Both flights will likely be in Terminal C, but you may arrive in Terminal B, which means you will take the AirTrain to Terminal C for your flight to Las Vegas after clearing customs.

Thank you. My travel agency says the this time is enough but I am not sure,I wll arrive and I will depart from terminal c (flight UA)but please confirm me that when Iarrive in EWR I have to pass immigration then pick up the baggage then re-check the baggage and then pass the security. InAugust I suppose will be a lot of people. Is it right?

Yes, you have the procedure right and yes, August is the end of the peak transatlantic travel season.

  • Getting from one terminal to another United Express Airline
    Jul 22, 2014
I am flying in from MCI United Express, and heading out to Moncton, NB,guessing I will be leaving from a different terminal...does the airline have it's own shuttle bus??

Actually both flights will likely be in Terminal A. However if you do have to go between A and C, then United operates a shuttle bus on the secure side of the airport.

Really hoping that I don't have to leave Terminals, first time flying by myself and I am a so intimidated by this large airport....hoping that I can find my connecting flight without too much stress. Thanks for the reply. Any tips to make this easier I welcome!!!

  • Short Connection time
    Jul 19, 2014
Hello .. I'm booking a flight from MCO (Orlando) to Toronto (YYZ) on United/United Express with a 1hr 14min stopover in EWR. Is that enough time for me to make the connection? Thanks in advance for your help.

At EWR, United Express uses Terminal A (United domestic flights are either at TA or TC). Your connecting flight to YYZ should be at TC (if at TA, United will shuttle you gate-to-gate to TC) You have enough time for either scenario.

Sajul has it reversed. You will arrive in Terminal C and depart from Terminal A. But he is indeed correct in that there is a secure-side shuttle between Terminals C and A at EWR.

Arriving at EWR from Mumbai by UA49 at 5.10 am . Indian passport holder on B1/B2 Visa. Connecting flight to Houston at 7.45 am UA1640 . Is this transit time enough to catch the connecting flight. Will immigration be done at NEWARK OR HOUSTON? DO WE NEED TO COLLECT LUGGAGE EVEN IF THROUGH CHECK IN IS DONE TO HOUSTON? WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF TRANSFER OF LUGGAGE AT EWR?

Yes you have enough transfer time. Your United Airline flight arrives at Terminal C, where you will need to go through immigration process. Thereafter your domestic flight to Houston (IAH or HOU?) could depart either from Terminal C or Terminal A. If departing from Terminal A, United's shuttle bus will take you there. For detailed international arrivals and terminals at EWR, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

Thanks for the update. It is for IAH and mostly from Terminal C. Do we need to collect the baggage at EWR and Re check in for IAH even though it is through check in done at Mumbai?

The immigration process involves passport control, pickup of bags, going through customs clearance & re-check-in bags where indicated. (This is separat from 're-check-in bags thereafter applying to passengers which have bought either two separate tickets, or their incoming airlines does not transfer bags to your next flight - in which cases they would have to take their bags to the connecting terminal & re-check it in there. )

Both of your flights will be in Terminal C. You can re-check your bags with United right after you clear customs. They will already be tagged through to Houston but you have to claim them to go through US Customs in Newark.

  • BOS to EWR to Costa Rica
    Aug 7, 2014
Traveling to Costa Rica from Boston, with a change in Newark. I have 46 minute layover in Newark. Does anyone know which terminal I'll come into from Boston, and which I'll be leaving for Costa Rica? Really worried about the layover...

Are you lying United the whole way? Your flight from Boston will arrive in Terminal A or C and your flight to Costa Rica will depart from Terminal C. If you have to change terminals United runs a shuttle bus inside security.

Thanks for the info - it is united all the way. If I do come in terminal A, does it take long to get to terminal C?

It can take up to 30 minutes to get to C, depending on how long you have to wait for the shuttle and how quick the shuttle runs.

How did the 46 minute layover go? We have the same itinerary. What terminals did you arrive and depart in Newark? Did you have to take shuttle.

  • Connection, termincal C -> B
    Jun 26, 2014
I will arrive from the Carrabian with UA in termincal C but have a connection flight out of US from terminal B. I have around 90 minutes to catch the connecting flight, is that enough ? Do I have to get my baggages and check in again in terminal B ?

Were your tickets bought together or separately? What airline are you flying out of B? If bought together you can re-check your bags in Terminal C after you clear customs. 90 minutes leaves no time to spare for your connection. It will be difficult.

Those are two seperate tickets so I canĀ“t check my bags all the way. I fly with Icelandair from terminal B.

Then no, you will have a very tough time making it in 90 minutes. You will have to take the baggage with you to Terminal B. Unless your flight arrives early (which is very rare at EWR, especially in the afternoon and evening), you won't make it to Terminal B with your baggage prior to the baggage check cutoff time.

It will be hard to make your transfer in the time you have, but it's doable. You will both arrive and depart from Terminal 8. Upon arrival, you will go through US Immigration, claim your baggage, go through US Customs, then drop your bags at the baggage re-check with American. Then you will go to the departure level and through security and to your departure gate. If you miss your connection then you will be rebooked on the next AA flight to Los Angeles, of which there are many.
