My Parents are travelling from Lisbon, Portugal to Ottawa, Canada. They are both in their seventies and need to connect from Terminal B to Terminal A with approx. an hour and a half. This will be their first time with connections in Newark. I would appreciate comments from experienced travellers familiar with Newark Liberty Airport. Thank you.

They'll have to go through US Immigration, then claim their baggage, then go through customs, then re-check their bags, then take the AirTrain to their departure terminal (note that her Ottawa flight may actually depart from A or C) and then go through security and to their gate. They'll have to hurry to make it in just 90 minutes.

  • 1 hour Connection at EWR T-C to T-A

Arriving on UA at EWR from PIT at Terminal C. Have 1 hour to make it to Terminal A for flight to YOW (also UA). Will UA forward checked bags all the way to YOW or do I have to go through security again at Term A? Is there enough time to get from T-C to T-A?

United will forward checked bags to YOW and if you do have to change terminals (your flight from PIT may actually arrive in T-A as well) you can take the United secure-side shuttle bus and not have to go through security when you change terminals. If your first flight is on-time you should be OK

  • Arriving TB and then go TC to Ft. Lauderdale

I'm a portuguese tourist arriving from Lisbon in terminal B at 15.50 (TP103) on 15th November and transferring to Terminal C for a connecting flight to Ft Lauderdale at 18.56 (UA1416). Will there be enough time for passport check, customs and transfer? We have to pick up bags after go through passport check? Do we bring bags to Terminal C or there is some other droppoint before take the Air train?

Yes, that should be plenty of time. If your bags are checked through to FLL in Lisbon, you will just have to claim your bags after you go through immigration, then go through customs, then you can drop them off at the re-check desk and you won't have to take them to TC with you.

    Grateful for the attention.

Many thanks, Zap, for your info about shuttle bus service from T-A to T-C, but pls let me have another question. Should be it faster if I take the Air Train between terminals than the shuttle bus despite i have to go thru securuty again on the Air Train option?

No, because of security (and because it usually shortens the walking distance a little bit) the shuttle bus is pretty much always faster.

I have only 55 minutes to connect from Terminal A to Terminal C, Ua domestic flt to Ua international. My question is how often shuttle buses are running from T-A to T-C and how long does it take

I estimate it would take about 20-25 minutes. They run pretty frequently, but it's a bit of a long trip.

Fastest way from Terminal C to Terminal B

United has a secure-side shuttle bus if you are staying secure-side (ie arriving on a domestic United flight and don't need to claim or re-check bags). Otherwise take the AirTrain.

Take the Airtrain - follow signs - At TB you need to go through security check before proceeding to your gate.

Flying on the 25th of October to Las Vegas from Glasgow but have a connection at newark. I have read so many different things. Do I need to go through security collect my bags and drop them off at terminal c where I will be catching my flight to vegas?

All international flights at EWR arrive at Terminal B, except United flights arriving at Terminal C. Yes you need to pick up bags, go through customs and re-check-in your bags. Some of United's and all other domestic flights depart from Terminal A. After customs clearance and re-check of bags, board the Airtrain to Terminal A, go through security check and on to your connecting gate.

I am flying from SNA to EWR arriving at Terminal C. 55 minutes after arrival I am to depart on a flight to YOW from Terminal A. Will I have enough time and what is the best way to get from Terminal C to Terminal A?

On arrival at EWR, take the shuttle bus between TC & TA - at TC near gate C71; at TA near gate A28 - no security check needed.

  • Terminal B to C in 90 minutes ?

We are arriving from London on UA016 12/18/2013 (16:15) to terminal B and will be connecting to UA1082 flying to Costa Rica departing 17:45. - What is the best/fastest way to get from B to C ? - Immigration/baggage claim needed ?

United's international (and some domestic) arrivals are in Terminal C (while all other international arrivals are in Terminal B). Terminal C has three gate areas: C1 is arranged in a Y-shape (gates C70-99), C2 (gates C101-C115); & C3 (gates C120-139). NOTE, however, that International Arrivals need to go through passport check, retrieve checked bags, go through customs clearance and - if transferring to another flight - re-check-in bag where indicated, before proceeding to your connecting gate. Your transfer time should suffice.

  • LAX to ORLY through EWR, How long to transfer terminals?

My American Airlines flight lands in Newark at 5pm in Term A. My British Airways flight departs from Term B at 8:30pm. My bags will be checked through. How long will it take to get to the Term B gate?

On Arrival at EWR, take the AirTrain (serving pre-security, non-sterile areas on the Gate Level) to Terminal B, which takes only minutes - however to get to your connecting gate you need to go through security check first - you have plenty of time.

I am traveling from AZ to EWR and then Connecting to Shannon Ireland -all on United - I only have a 45 min Connection and was wondering if for some reason its delayed or ? if I will have enough time to get from one flight to another... help :)

Yes, you will have enough time if your first flight is on-time (both flights will be in Terminal C). However, you are right in that any significant delay may make the connection impossible. If you miss your connection you may be re-booked to go through London or you may just end up spending the night in New York.

  • Connecting from UK to Canada at EWR without security?

I am flying into EWR Terminal B with a United Flight and then on to Canada also with a United flight from Terminal A. I have 2.5hrs but am concerned about EWR delays. Will I be able to check luggage all the way from UK to Canada and transfer from Terminal B to A without going through security/customs/immigration?

You will check your bags through to Canada but you will have to claim them in US immigration in Terminal B and then re-check after clearing US customs at the re-check desk. Every person entering the US from abroad has to go through US immigration, even if they are transferring to a third country. After you check your bag you will have to take the AirTrain to your departure terminal. Also be sure to check your flight status as many United and United Express flights also use Terminal C.
