Hi - I will be flying in from TLV to EWR and changing planes at EWR to Atlanta (all on United). All gates are in terminal C. After going though customs and immigration, will I need to go though security again or will i be able to just stay in terminal C

Yes, you will have to go through security again to access the gate area of Terminal C.

Hi, I will be flying from SAT to EWR to get an international flight to Dublin with a 2hr 25 connection time in Newark.... do we need to switch terminals/go through immigration/re-check our bags after the SAT flight? All flights booked through United.

Both flights will be in Terminal C. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Immigration/Customs when leaving the US.

I am travelling from Mumbai to EWR by United Airlines flight and arrive at terminal C. Then I have a connecting flight by same airline from terminal A to Washington. Do I have to collect my luggage and re check? What is the proces? Please help

Yes, you have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, take the AirTrain to Terminal A and go through security and to your departure gate.

I will be flying Delta from SLC to EWR and trying to connect to a TAP Portugal flight to Venice (VCE) with a 1:35 layover and no checked luggage. How reasonable is that? The two flights will not be on the same ticket.

It's not impossible but it won't be easy. I'd say that you have a less than 50% chance of making it.

i wonder if 1hr is enough connecting domestic to international flights at newark

I am flying from Minneapolis to Dublin with connection in Newark, arriving on United, departing on Aer Lingus. I have 2 hours to make the connection. Is that enough? will I need to pick up and re-check my luggage? thanks.

Yes, that is enough time. If both flights are on the same reservation you will not have to claim your bags, just take the AirTrain to Terminal B and go through security.

How did this go for you, Rebecca? I'm doing something similar tomorrow.

Ihaven't gone yet, sorry. Good luck to you!

I hope this finds you before your flight! I flew the new Aer Lingus route from EWR to DUB and the return last week. I started at DEN and ended at LBA (Leeds Bradford), in addition to that one. I booked through United, they carried the DEN-EWR route, and an Aer Lingus subsidiary, Stobart Air, carried the DUB-LBA route. First, a goofy thing that some other unfortunate individual might run into. The last letter of my first name, Todd, is 'D,' and my middle initial is 'R.' The United computer system, wrote my name as Last/TODDR on the receipt. This seems normal. Elsewhere in their system (I first noticed it in my account on their website), I was listed as doctor, that is "DR TOD Last." Customer service said this was simply a website issue. And nicely, when I checked in online, my boarding pass listed Last/TODDR. Good. Luckily, when I called United about this issue, they also gave my the Aer Lingus "Booking Reference" (their confirmation number), which I did not receive at booking, and which is required information to do anything on the Aer Lingus site, like checking in or providing advance passport information. I also asked for confirmation that my checked luggage would be sent all the way through. They said that it would not. I would need to collect and re-check in Newark. With this in hand, I examined my flight information on the Aer Lingus site. They had passed the DR Tod Last over to Aer Lingus. Aer Lingus said that they actually had the correct name in their files, and not to worry about it. Then I checked in online for the Aer Lingus flights. Boarding passes listed Dr Tod Last. Ugh. I figured that since United told me I'd need to recheck luggage in Newark, that I'd just resolve the name issue there. Departing DEN, I checked my baggage at their new "I checked in online and already paid any baggage fees" line, which was super fast and hovered over by three managers. They each confirmed that my baggage COULD be checked all the way through to LBA and did so. Nice, and it makes sense, since I saw the two airlines listed as having such an agreement. United customer service: 0 for 1. Arriving at EWR, I had a 3-hour layover. I had to go from Terminal C to Terminal B. A shuttle exists for doing this without leaving security, but the person in charge refused passage to those connecting to Aer Lingus flights, saying they were not affiliated (I'm almost certain she was just wrong about this, but I can't confirm.) So I left security and took the train to B and went to talk to the Aer Lingus check-in crew about the name issue. I was told that it was good of me to approach them, as my home-printed boarding passes were no good for some reason. They did not elaborate, and I didn't care enough to ask. Having already checked through the baggage seemed fine with them. Also for no particular reason, they could not correct my name on the boarding pass, so I went to security with an ounce of hope. To my stupefaction, the name issue followed my the entire round trip, and no one ever said anything about it. No security, no immigration or customs, no airline personnel. Maybe it's because the difference was so slight and looked like it was just cut off or because it's a common alternate spelling. But still, you'd think an inexact name would be a flag. The mini-B Terminal for the EWR-DUB flight sucked. Cramped with little to do. Boarding was disorganized, and we left a little late but made up the time in the air. If anyone cares, 1:50 is enough to do immigration for connecting flights to LBA early in the morning, and customs at LBA hardly looked like it was even a thing.

thanks--I'v had similar name concerns when a ticket combined my first and middle names, but nothing ever came of it. I will hope to encounter the right people changing gates! at Newark. I just got Global Entry approval so that should speed things up too.

  • EWR TB to TC airside

Hi. Arriving in TB from Dublin at 1515 on Friday 9th. We will have pre-cleared immigration & customs in Dublin, and will be connecting to 1728 flight to PIT departing TC. Is that enough time for connection? Can we connect from TB to TC (flying United) airside without going back thru security.

I'm fairly sure you'll have to take the AirTrain to Terminal C and go through security. You should have plenty of time.

I just did something similar. I had 3:15 to make the connection, and I was through pretty quickly, even stopping at United check-in because they wouldn't let me check in online for a flight that began with Aer Lingus. I made a much shorter trip from one secured section of TB to another. That security line moved pretty slowly around 1600.

  • GLA - MCO via EWR...leave terminal?

I am flighting from Glasgow (GLA) to Orlando (MCO) via Newark (EWR). I have a 3hr layover with both flights arriving and departing from terminal C. (United Airlines). After I have cleared immigration and re-checked my bags, can I leave the terminal? I only ask as I have a nasty habit and know that the only smoking areas are outside the terminal and the thought of not having a cigarette for 14 hours fills me wtih dread.

Yes, when you clear customs and re-check your bags then you will be outside the secure area and free to go where you want, but you really don't have a lot of time to spare.

you don't have to get your bags as they will automatically be transferred to Orlando flight, you will only have to go through immigration so if it's not busy and all flights are running to time you will be able to have a couple of smokes but be careful because you will have to come back in through airport security and it can be really busy at times. I'm making the same trip with United but I'm flying from Belfast

  • BHX to MCO via EWR

Hi, I am flying in from BHX (UK) to MCO via EWR. I have a 1hr 45 minute window to make my connection. Is this feasible and if so do I have to collect my checked bags and then re-check. Does re-checking involve queuing again with all regular customers or do I have a different route as i am connecting? First time I've needed to do this so want to make sure I know what I am doing! Thanks Glenn

That will be very difficult. The re-check desk will be right after you clear customs and is separate from the regular check in counter.

  • EDI to ORD thru EWR

Flying back from EDI to EWR terminal B, then flying out of EWR terminal C to ORD. 90 minute layover with no check luggage. Is this possible to make?

    It's all United.

With no checked baggage it's not impossible, but it will still be difficult. If you miss your connection, United has hourly flights from Newark to Chicago.

I'm doing the same but WITH checked luggage. 1. first, do I need to pick up my own bags at EWR to bring to my connecting flight or are the bags checked through (all United flights on one reservation)? 2. second, is there a way to get my own checked bags at EWR between connections in this situation (I have relatives in New Jersey that I'd like to give the checked luggage to and not bring them to ORD)

JCL, your bags will be tagged to your final destination but in Newark you will have to go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then re-check your bags at the re-check desk. At this point instead you could give the bags to your relatives instead. Then you go to Terminal A or C on the airtrain, through security and to your departure gate.

Travelling with United from Yyz to Shannon, via EWR. Arrive in terminal A, depart terminal C 3hrs later. Do I have to collect my bags or will they go straight through from Yyz to Shannon?

No, you do not have to claim your bags. You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. United runs a shuttle bus inside security from A to C.

I am flying from EDI into EWR and then have 1hr 45min before a connecting flight to BNA. All flights with United. Will that be enough time?

Flying from LAX next May to MAN Manchester UK with United Airlines on UA642 which arrives at 18.36 and my connecting flight is UA81 which leaves at 19.30 do i have enough time to make the connection or will it be sprint finish. Ive run through so many airports in the past but feel like im now getting to old!

Traveling United from MCO TO EWR ARRIVE TERMINAL C DEPART TO PEK TERMINAL B. Air China. I HAVE ONE HOUR FIFTY MINUETS AND HAVE CHECKED LUGGAGE. WILL I HAVE TO GET MY LUGGAGE, WILL I HAVE TIME?

If both tickets are on the same reservation you have enough time and don't have to do anything with your bags. You just have to take the shuttle or airTrain to Terminal B.
