I have booked a flight from Birmingham to Orlando, with a connection through Newark. I am flying on one ticket. The time between flights is 1hr 15 mins will I make it?! My travel advisor in the UK told me that it is sold through United Airlines and is definitely do-able. Help!

    1) I am arriving from Nashville at 10.15pm and taking a connecting flight the NEXT MORNING for Punta Cana at 9.05am. My question is : can I check my luggage from Nashville to Punta Cana or do I have to pick it upon arrival in EWR? and then check in again? 2) What is the time limit to check in for the flight to Punta Cana? 3) The same question as 1) but will be arriving IAD from Punta Cana in the evening a week later and then flying to Geneva Switzerland the following afternoon

I believe you will have to pick up your baggage in Newark. You should aim to check in for your Punta Cana flight 90 minutes before scheduled departure, so 7:35. On your way back, you will go through US Immigration and Customs when you arrive in IAD. You will have to claim your baggage anyway on that trip in order to go through US Immigration. They won't allow you to re-check your bags almost an entire day before your next flight.

flying in from belfast then on to orlando. do we need to change terminals and if so what is distane and time it takes. thank you

You may arrive in Terminal B or Terminal C. In either case, in Newark you will go through US Immigration, collect your baggage, go through US Customs, and then re-check your bags with United. Then if you arrived in Terminal B you will have to take the Airtrain to Terminal C. Then you will go through security and to your departure gate to orlando.

  • Never flew into EWR before!

I am flying into EWR on Sat. 23rd at 4:09 pm (United out of MCO) I will be flying out at 7:00 pm Lufthansa for Dublin. I have never used Newark before, what are the suggested procedures? Bag pick-up? customs? Time? Terminals?

you do not go through Customs when leaving the US nor will you have to do anything with your bags in EWR. Also, Lufhtansa does not fly from Newark to Dublin, so that flight will be on United as well. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate, which will both be in Terminal C. You should have plenty of time.

  • Terminal A Arrivals
    Jul 12, 2014

I will be arriving at Terminal A on Air Canada with 2 small children and a bunch of luggage (car seats etc). I will have cleared US Immigration in Canada. I was told that I have to pick up all my baggage first and then proceed through a set of doors to meet my car service. Is this true? Can they get into the baggage area and assist me?

Terminal A is a domestic terminal - on arrival at the gates, therefore after deplaning, proceed to the Arrivals /ground level where you should be met by your taxi driver holding up a sign with your name (if you pre-ordered a taxi). Otherwise, look for Skycaps & if you can't see one proceed to the nearby information counter asking for assistance.

  • Meet arriving passengers terminal C?

My flight arrives at terminal A, my friend arrives at Terminal C... Will I need to pick up my baggage first and can I meet him inside the terminal c?

Yes, you should pick up your baggage first. Yes, you can meet him in the baggage Claim or Terminal C. The AirTrain connects the terminals outside security.

    Thank you!

  • SAS arrival to American Airlines domestic flight

I will be arriving on SAS and will need to go American Airlines flight to Chicago. I have 3 hrs. and 20 minutes total. what is the best way to procede?

You will arrive in Terminal B where you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, and go through US Customs. If you purchased your tickets together then you can re-check your bags at the re-check desk and then take the AirTrain to Terminal A where you will go through security and to your departure gate. If you purchased tickets separately, bring your bags with you to Terminal A where you will have to check them at the American Airlines counter and pay a checked bag fee. You should have enough time to make your transfer.

Thank you for the helpful comment

  • Can non-traveller go to upto Delta gate TERMINAL B to assist traveler
    Jun 26, 2014

Hi, I would like to know whether a non-traveller can assist a senior person to board the flight and can go along with traveller upto boarding gate and once traveler (senior person) boards the flight then non-traveller can comeout from the airport(ewr). This is for Delta gate TERMINAL B to assist traveler who is more than 65yrs.

You probably can. You will have to go to the Delta check-in counter with this senior person you are accompanying and ask for it.

    Thank you.

4:45 to 5 AM should be fine. However, the North terminal is a bit busy at 6 AM as every airline has departures at that time. They can check-in online and save themselves some time at the airport.

  • Immigration and customer clearance ?

Hello. My mother in law will be traveling to St. Louis from New Delhi, india. She has a connecting flight (both united) at ewr. Will she be clearing immigration and customs at ewr? What will be the procedure? Will she be claiming her baggage there? If yes, how much time will the whole process take?

At EWR, your party may arrive at either Terminal B or C - both are used by United for international arrivals. While United Express uses domestic terminal A, United Airways uses Terminal C for domestic flights also. For Terminal, International Arrivals procedure, transfer options, I suggest you open www.ifly.com/ewr, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

She will arrive in B or C, go through US Immigration, claim her bags, go through US Customs, and then re-check her bags with United. Then she will take the Airtrain to her departure terminal (if she doesn't both arrive and depart from C), she may depart from A or C. Then she will go through security and to her gate. Minimum time allowed between an international and domestic flight at EWR is 90 minutes.

My wife is travelling alone from Dayton with United Express to EWR with a 70minute period to connect with a UA flight to LHR. Will her bags go straight from the UE plane to the UA? Will she go through customs at EWR? She is worried there will not be enough time. The tickets were booked as a package.

Hi, I 'm travelling in from Glasgow, my friend is traveling in from Cleveland. We should clear about the same time as I arrive one hour earlier.Any suggestions for a well sign posted meeting point. Neither of us has used Newark before so it will be unfamiliar to us. Thank You

Your friend may arrive in either Terminal A or C if he is on United and you may arrive in Terminal B or C. So first you need to decide what Terminal to meet in (I recommend C).

Thanks Zap for your quick response Do you think it could be possible to get an exact point.ie If you come out arrivals Terminal A there is a starbucks same level of if you come out arrivals Terminal |C| there is a coffee shack same level. I don't mind going between terminals as the Airtrain looks easy to negotiate, my friend on the other hand is a first time flyer and fairly nervous about the ordeal We are both traveling United .

My husband is flying United from the Middle East to Chicago with a stopover in EWR. Will he need to claim baggage and recheck them or will the airline do it for him?

If Newark is the first point where he will enter the United States, he has to claim his baggage after he clears immigration, go through US customs, then re-check his bags. If they are checked through to Chicago then he can just drop them at the re-check desk after exiting customs.
