Palmdale Regional PMD Airport Overview

Palmdale Regional Airport PMD is now a general aviation facility, located in the Antelope Valley, approximately 60 miles from downtown Los Angeles, and includes Edwards AFB, Plant 42.   While commercial airline service ceased a few years ago, it is expected that the City Council will be successful in reinstating such service.

NOTE:  1. While the LA Airport Authority no longer operates this airport, the City of Palmdale apparently took over operations - however, its site has no more than 'under construction' for the last 4 months.
2. According to the FAA list of intended air tower closures by June 2013, Palmdale  is one of them.

The airport features a modern 9,000 square-foot terminal capable of handling up to 300,000 passengers annually; however, at its height it only had an estimated 20,800 passengers a year.

According to AirNav - the Airport is open to the public for official business only.  It is a military airport - civil use requires USAF approval & DD Form2400/01/02.

UPDATE:  It seems that LAWA, the Los Angles-based operator, is finally losing grip on that airport, and the City of Palmdale will take over by year-end 2013.  It already has formed the 'Palmdale Airport Authority'  and is working on a new online airport site.
