  • First time to Philly airport, what to expect

I'll be landing at terminal F, and departing from C a few hours later. Will I need to pick up my 2 bags and have them go through security again? Or will they automatically go to my next flight? What do I do?

If both flights are on the same reservation then you don't have to do anything with your bags in Philadelphia. Just go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Checking in luggage after customs

Hi, I will arrive with two very large suitcases on my international flight at terminal A, then have to collect them for customs, and finally fly out of terminal F. Although I have 5 hrs layover, I'm worried as my suitcases are very heavy and I don't really want to carry them all the way to terminal F from A. My flights are all on the same reservation, so will it be possible to check my bags in earlier after customs? Thanks!

Yes, you can check your bags at the re-check desk right after you clear customs in Terminal A. Then you go through security and take the shuttle to Terminal F.

Thanks a lot for the information :)

  • Connection from Terminal F to B

I will be landing at terminal F and my connection is at terminal B. There is only 45 minutes between each flight. 1) Is that enough? 2) Do I need to go through the security? 3) Should I take the shuttle or walk (run !!!) ? Thanks

Yes, it's enough time if the first flight is on time. No you don't have to go through security. You can do either - if you can run, I'd probably do that.

Thanks. Im about to do the same thing-- 2 days later. Outrageous that AA lets you book these two together!

Hi I'll fly from Cancun to PHI and have a layover of 1hr and 45mins before I go to Amsterdam. Both flights are american airlines and I arrive and depart at terminal A. I fly with handluggage only. Will I have enough time in PHI?

Yes, that should be enough time. You have to go through US Immigration, Customs, and Security and to your departure gate. Everything will be in Terminal A.

  • PHL International Arrival - Transfer to Different Airline

I am arriving at PHL on United/Lufthansa from Frankfort Germany at 4:00 PM. I need to be able to take an American flight out at 5:47 PM to return to Nashville. If I can't take that AA flight I will be stuck either staying over night or taking another round of more expensive connecting flights and getting home past midnight. Is there ANY way for me to have United/Lufthansa transfer my luggage to American? Or would it be possible to get thru Customs to pick up my bags and then recheck with AA and still make this flight?

I don't think that connection is realistically possible on two separate reservations with checked baggage.

  • Flying to CUN from PIT through PHL

I have a flight out of Pittsburgh that transfers in PHL before heading to Cancun. Do i have to claim my bags and go through security a second time? I only have 55 minutes between flights. Is this enough time?

All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. There is no US Customs when leaving the US.

    Also you have enough time

Hi, I'm thinking of connecting thru PHL on a future trip from LHR to TPA, BA67 arriving terminal A to BA6916 Departing Terminal C (operated by AA). I'm buying seperate tickets to reduce the price, do I have to collect and recheck my checked bag, and can I do it all in 1 hour and 30 minutes? Thanks!

You will have to claim your bags regardless to go through US Customs, but since it's two separate reservations, it will take longer to re-check in PHL. I would only try this with no checked bags.

Yeah, thought i'd be pushing it, booked the direct flight from LGW instead! thanks!

  • Minimum time for checked in baggage

Hi, What is the minimum time that checked in baggage can make it safely to a domestic connecting flight? (is there any difference if the connecting flight is domestic to international? Thank you!

Domestic to International is no difference. 30 minutes is doable, and I'd say an hour would be fairly risk-free.

Hi, My flight arrives at 17:16 in Terminal F, and my connecting flight is 1 hour and 19 minutes later from Terminal A. Do I have enough time to get to the connecting flight (what is the minimum time for change of terminals in case of of late arrival? ). Will my checked in baggage make it to the connecting flight? Thank you!

Yes, that should be enough time. There is a shuttle from F to A that runs inside security.

  • 55 min in PHL to make U.K. connection

My travel agent booked me on flights week before Christmas with only a 55 minute connection between Richmond-PHL and PHL-London...in the evening. Are gates likely to be far apart and is there even a small chance that we will actually make the London flight? Thank you!

Your flights may be far apart but if they are far apart American runs a shuttle between F and A inside security. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You have enough time if the first flight is on-time.

I have an hour layover on American in Phil before my next flight to Dublin on American. Do I have enough time to get to the international terminal

  • Terminal C to F

We have 45 mins to make our connecting flight on AA from Terminal C to terminal F. According to their website we have to leave and go back thru security to make our connecting flight in Terminal F, is this true? It'll just be me and my 4 year old so I am worried about the time constraint if we do really have to go back out thru security.

You do not have to go through security. You can walk or take a shuttle to Terminal F inside security.

    Thank you!

  • PHL TO PUNTA CANA

Hi I am arriving in PHL for a connecting flight to punta Cana. My flight gets in to PHL at 5:02pm at terminal f and the other flight leaves at 5:55pm from terminal a. Will I have enough time?

It's possible, it doesn't leave a lot of time to spare if the first flight is delayed. American runs a shuttle bus inside security from F to A.

  • Nashville-PHL-Manchester UK

Hi I've seen a flight itinerary that leaves Nashville at 1655, arriving PHL at 1956. Our onward flight to Manchester, UK leaves at 2050, giving 54 mins. I believe we need to change terminals but I'm not sure which terminals are involved. Will this be enough time, regardless of which terminal we need to get to? If there isn't enough time, will American Airlines put us on the next available flight at no charge? Thanks!

Yes, that is enough time. All terminals and gates at Philadelphia are connected inside security and all you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. The next available flight wouldn't be until the next day, but yes, they would put you on it if you missed your connection.

    thanks :)

  • connecting outbound to MSP with 36 min connection

We fly STT-PHL-MSP with a 36 min connection at PHL. Should we be concerned and try to find some other route to MSP?

That's enough time if the flight is on-time. Flights from the USVI to the mainland are considered domestic flights so all you have to do in PHL is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connection Time 30 Minutes

We have only 30 Minuten for connection from a San Juan flight with AA to catch the flight to Boston. Is it possible?

It's possible but it leaves no time to spare. American has frequent flights from Philadelphia to Boston if you miss your connection.
