  • Immigration with connecting flight

Hi, we're travelling back from Toronto next week to Glasgow via Philadelphia. Do we need to pick our luggage up in Philly & go through Immigration again when we connect flights to Glasgow or is this all done leaving Toronto?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate in Philadelphia. If you are on the flight to PHL that arrives at around 5 PM you will arrive in Terminal F and will take a shuttle bus, which runs inside security, to Terminal A where you will depart.

Is there a shuttle from the Philadelphia 30th St. train station to PHL?

There's no shuttle, but there is a full-on subway/rail line, the SEPTA Airport Line. It only makes two stops between 30th St and the Airport.

I will be arriving at Philadelphia International Airport from Amsterdam on U.S. Airways at 4:00 P.M. on Sept. 22nd. Will I have enough time to make my U.S. Airways flight to Boston at 7:15 P.M.?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

  • Traveling from heathrow to Kansas City airport

I am traveling from India to Kansas city airport, by heathrow AA to PHL airport and then further to Kansas City. I am arriving at terminal A at PHL and taking flight to Kansas city from terminal C. How am I coming from terminal A to C? Since I come from India, do I have to recheck baggage in PHL and custom clearation and recheck again?

Yes, in Philadelphia you will go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, go through security and go to your departure gate. Check the monitors for your actual departure gate (it may not be in C). Terminals A, B, and C are all connected inside and outside security by walkways.

  • Layover Time Enough?

Flying from Heathrow to Philadelphia with BA landing 16.40. Connection is 1.5 hours. Philadelphia to Orlando flight with American Airlines leaves at 18.10. Both flights say arriving and department Terminal A. Will I have enough time for layover as I am flying from UK? Do I need to go through security or stay inside the gate? Please help, very nervous and worried traveller!

You will arrive in Terminal A, go through US Customs, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate, which may be in Terminal A, B, or C. A, B, and C are all connected inside and outside security. You have enough time if your BA flight is on-time.

  • 12 Hour Layover in PHL

Going from ORD to PHL and then have a 12 hour layover until our international flight. Can we claim our luggage, leave the airport and then re-check our luggage?

Yes, you should be able to. If that 12 hours is overnight you will likely be required to.

I am flying from PHL to Mexico with a layover in Houston first. When leaving PHL do I need to go to the international terminal or just the normal United terminal because my first leg of trip is just to Houston? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

United only has one check-in counter, in Terminal D. Go there.

Flying from Winnipeg to Montreal to Philly tomorrow. Does everyone clear customs in Montreal? I saw an answer to one ques that said you clear in Montreal. Others coming from other countries are going through customs in Philly & having to re-check bags. So does it depend on where you're coming from as to where you go through customs? Thanks for any advice!

You will clear US Immigration and Customs in Montreal when you enter the US Flights area of the terminal. This is called US Immigration Preclearance and all the major Canadian airports have it as well as a few in the Caribbean, two in Ireland, and Abu Dhabi. It means you arrive in the US like a domestic flight.

  • Immigrating to USA - does my mom have to stand in normal customs line?

I have heard at other airports that if you are immigrating to USA (have sealed envelope) that you are to tell someone and then you don't stand in long line but get sent somewhere else for fingerprinting etc. Is this true at PHL? Asking because my 74 year mom's layover is only 2 hours and that doesn't seem like enough time for her to stand in any long lines.

There are different lines for US citizens, People who do not need a visa to enter the US, and those entering on a Visa. 2 hours should be enough time.

I called the phl airport they told me I could go out departure door of F and be picked up there as long as I have no baggage and when departing on flight I coud be drop off at F and enter right at F and go thru security Is this correct

I believe that is correct. The entrance and security checkpoint for F are under construction but I believe they are open. F currently has no baggage claim so if you do have to claim bags, that will be in E.

I am connecting in PHL on a US Airways flight from Montreal to Barcelona? What is the process and how much time do I need for the connection? Do I have to go through passport control on arrival in PHL? Do I have to pick up and recheck my bag in PHL? Will I have to go through TSA security again?

You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Montreal. All you have to do in PHL is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will depart from Terminal A. You will likely arrive in Terminal F. Terminal F is connected to the other terminals inside security by a shuttle bus.

  • ORD==> PHL ==> TLV

I'm traveling from ORD to PHL and then to TLV, all through US airways. I get in to PHL at 7:50pm and my flight to TLV leaves at 9:05PM. Will I have enough time to make my connection? Also, does the shuttle take me to my connection flight? Thanks!

You don't need to take a shuttle. You can just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will have plenty of time if your flight from Chicago is on-time.

I'm a first time flyer and I didn't think that this would be an issue when I bought my plane ticket, but I'm beginning to worry.. I'm flying from Burlington VT to Cancun, Mexico with a 1.5 hr layover/plane change in Philadelphia. I don't expect the first part of the flight to be an issue and I have someone meeting me in Mexico, but I'm worried about timing with the plane change. I've never flown before and I'm clueless really about the process. Will I have enough time to make the change? I will only have a carry on so I suppose that will be in my favor but I'm starting to really worry about this. The flight from burlington arrives at 10:30am and the flight for cancun departs at 11:55am.

You have plenty of time. you will likely arrive in Terminal F and depart from Terminal A. You have to take a shuttle bus from Terminal F to your departure terminal, bu it runs inside security.

I will be trying from Punta Cana to IND through PHL. I have a 1hr 10min layover and will have checked bags. Is this enough time?

That's 20 minutes shorter than the recommended International to Domestic connection time. Things will have to go exceptionally smoothly in order for you to make it. If you can rebook either a later flight to Indy, earlier flight from Punta Cana, or a connection through Charlotte instead of PHL, I would try to get that instead.
