GREATER PHOENIX METRO AREA AIRPORTS
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is by far the dominant Airport in this area, while Phoenix-Mesa only offers limited commercial flights. Deer Valley Airport north of Phoenix serves only as an aviation reliever airport and so does Goodyear Airport, located west of Phoenix. Glendale Municipal in northwest Phoenix has only general aviation and corporate jet traffic, the same goes for the very busy Scottsdale Airport (in Scottsdale's industrial zone).
1. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport PHXis located 4 miles southeast of the Phoenix city center and minutes from Tempe. Most major and some international airlines serve the airport with direct and connecting flights. Lines at check-in and security move quickly. A free shuttle connects to the METRO Light Rail system in Phoenix and Tempe. Phoenix Transit's bus Red Line and No.13 provide lift-equipped transport to/from the airport and throughout the entire Phoenix area. Parking Tip: park on the roof Terminal 2 parking garage and adjacent to Terminal 2--costs no more than economy lots and its only a short walk or bus ride from Terminal 3. Note that the airport has two separate exits for east and west destinations--therefore, plan your route before departing. Routes with airport exits are I-10 East, State Route 153 South of Washington, State Route 202 West and State Route 143 North.
2. The Phoenix-Mesa Gateway AZA (formerly William Gateway), located in Mesa, between Interstate 60 and Loop 202, and a short distance to Phoenix, has undergone recent renovation and is offering free internet access, daily parking at $5, a flight deck cafe & three rental car agencies. Even though it is presently only served by Allegiant Airways, it offers direct flights to an impressive number of cities in the north-west and north-east regions of the U.S. The Airport is also used for general aviation, industrial park, and corporate activity.
