  • SEA-IAH-CLT Terminal Change. With a 1hr 15min Layover
    May 26, 2016
Will I have to go through security when changing terminals at IAH? I'm staying on the same airline. . . Will I have to recheck my bags? Is a 1hr 15min Layover long enough in December when Changing terminals at IAH?

Will I Have to Get My Luggage and Re check It When I Go From American to Delta Airlines? Will I Have to Go Through Security When I Go From Terminal 4-3? Is a 1hr 54min Layover Long enough at PHX When Changing Airlines/Terminals?

Yes, you will have to claim your bags, change terminals, re-check your bags, and go through security. This is a difficult connection.

Um...I hate to break it to you but you won't make your connection ...especially if you have to claim your luggage. You may as well have them out you on the next flight. Sorry

Thanks for the info. I probably won't do it. I was just asking. I haven't made official plans and haven't booked it yet.

I have a Delta flight at 3:55 PM and will be able to arrive at the airport only at 2:30 PM. Will it be ok for security considering the long wait times at TSA security?

I think it will be difficult, but the early afternoon isn't as bad as most other times of the day.

  • Terminal 4 Speed

7:50am BWI - 9:40am Phoenix arrival on Southwest. Want to catch the 10:15 flight to LIH (Kauai). It looks like both should be within terminal 4 and the Southwest flight has good ratings for being on time. Possible to circumvent terminal 4 in 15-20 minutes?

    LIH flight is on American!

It's possible if you are already checked in for your AA flight. Obviously it leaves no time to spare if the Southwest flight is delayed and obviously you can't do this if you plan on checking bags.

We arrive in Phoenix on American Airlines from Vancouver at5:39 pm June 13, and depart on another American Airlines flight at6:53 pm. Will this be enough time to make our flight to Indianapolis, Indiana?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will pre-clear US Immigration and customs in Vancouver. All you have to do in Phoenix is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Phoenix to Cabo

Hello, I am taking American Airlines to go from San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas. I have a connecting flight in Phoenix with the layover being 40 minutes. Is that enough time?

It's within the same terminal...terminal 4 in Phoenix Sky Harbor Intl

It's enough time if the first flight is on-time. It obviously leaves no time to spare if it's delayed.

Yes, that is enough time if the flight from Palm Springs is on-time.

  • Is an hour connection time enough?
    Apr 21, 2016
Hi! Will be flying into PHX on AAL arrival at 3:41pm with connection on Skywest/American Eagle to MRY departing at 4:40 pm. As both would be in Terminal 4 , how fast do I have to be to make that work..provided the inbound flight is on time? (How far apart are the gates?) Thanks for you advice!

It shouldn't take you more than 10-15 minutes to get between gates. You have enough time.

flying on American airlines to phx with a 45 minute connection to a mesa/american eagle flight. are the gates close and can i make the connection?

All American/American Eagle flights are in Terminal 4. You can make it as long as the first flight is on-time.

I'm arriving on a Southwest flight into terminal 4 at 11:30am and have a 12:30pm flight on Great Lakes from terminal 2. No checked luggage. Is 1 hour sufficient time to make the connection? If not, what is the minimum recommended time.

It's possible, but risky. What you do have going for you is that Great Lakes flights are rarely on-time (although there's a good chance your flight will just get canceled).

Thanks. Very helpful, and prophetic you should say that about Great Lakes. Their flight was cancelled this morning and reinstated about an hour later with a different time.

    Yes, it is.

  • 1 hour layover in Phoenix
    Mar 20, 2016
We are flying from PDX to ZIH in Mexico; we started out with a 2 hour layover and AA changed it to 1 hour. Is that enough time? Are domestic arrival and international departure gates close together?

All AA gates in Phoenix are relatively close to each other. 1 hour should still be enough time.

  • Terminal 4 connections and security

Hi = my daughter has booked a flight with American that arrives in Sky Harbor and departs just 42 minutes later, also with American. Does anyone know if (1) she will have to claim her baggage or will American automatically transfer it; and (2) will she have to go through security again since she isn't leaving the terminal? Thank you.

If her first flight is domestic she doesn't have to do anything with her bags or go through security. She just has to go from her arrival gate to her departure gate.

Hi ZAP - do you know if this is also the case when arriving on AA (Gates A&B) and transferring to a SWA Flight (Gates C&D) since they are in the same Terminal)? This would be a commuter flight so carry-on only. I am hoping all gates in T4 are in a secured/connected area so I do not have to go through security again. Thanks for any help!
