Ponta Delgada JoaoPauloII PDL Airport Overview
Ponta Delgada - Joao Paulo II Airport PDL, or John Paul II Airport, is the Azores island chain's busiest airport and serves the island of San Miguel and its city of Ponta Delgada. San Miguel is the most populated island of the Azores (it is part of Portugal’s 'Autonomous Region of the Azores', an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean).
The Airport is located 3 km west of the city of Ponta Delgada.

With an estimated 900,000 passengers a year, Ponta Delgada Airport is a hub for SATA Air Acores and SATA International, and is served by a number of domestic and international airlines, as well as by various charters, offering inter-island and mainland Portugal daily flights, as well as flights to various cities in Europe and SATA Intrnacional flights to Boston, Montreal & Toronto (among other destinations).
It is recommended that you check-in for flights inside the Schengen Zone 90 minutes prior to scheduled departure; for non-Schengen flights within Europe 2 hours, for all other countries 2.5 hours. Check with your airline if you can use self-check-in counters in the terminal or check in electronically or by phone.

The passenger terminal of Ponta Delgada John Paul II Airport offers free internet access throughout the terminal. The Information desk is near the Arrivals area, and ANA staff available for assistance are located throughout the terminal. Tourist Information is available from Regional Tourism Direction in the public Arrivals hall. Other services and amenities include food & drink establishments, shops & duty-free shop, internet access, CTT post office, a bank branch & ATM cash machines, luggage wrapping and luggage storage, Lost & Found.
Rental car desks are in the arrivals area. CIP Services are available at three different levels (A, B & C) - tel. +351 296 205 400 /fax: 286 923. The ‘Sata Plus’ lounge is in the departure area tel. +351 707 227282.
Lounges in the Passenger terminal include VIP Servce lounges and the Sata Pulus lounge:

‘A Service’ is an escort service from the moment you enter the terminal until you are seated in the Airplane & includes the use of the lounge and transportation to/from the airplane.
‘B Service’ involves special assistance after landing or checking in, and the use of the lounge at departure .

Parking options at Ponta Delgada Airport include two parking lots across from, or close to, the passenger terminal: Parking Lot P1 is for short-term parking and Parking Lot P2 is for medium & long-term parking.
