Raleigh-Durham International, a major Airport, is ideally situated within North Carolina's Research Triangle. It is served by major and regional airlines with nonstop and connecting flights around the world. Fayetteville Grannis Field, 61 miles away, serves a 12-county area in southern North Carolina and is served by US Airways Express with daily flights to its Charlotte NC hub, and by Delta/ASA, the Delta with daily service to its Atlanta hub. Piedmont Triad Airport in Greensboro is 66 miles from Rawleigh-Durham Airport and is served by major airlines with direct and connecting flights around the world.

1. }Raleigh-Durham International Airport RDU is located in the heart of North Carolina's Research Triangle of Wake County - 10.5 miles southeast of the City of Durham, 11 miles northwest of Raleigh. and 17 miles east-southeast of Chapel Hill. With three runways, the Airport is serviced by major and regional airlines offering nonstop and connecting flights to all points of the globe. The Airport consists of two terminals Terminal 1 (formerly Terminal A) and the new Terminal 2, whose first phase opened in 2008, replacing the former Terminal C, which was demolished. The new terminal is to opens in winter 2011. Terminal 2 features three international gates and a new and more simplified processing area for arriving international travelers. In Terminal 2, international travelers present their passport, claim their belongings and exit the processing area without rechecking their bags or entering the concourse. Upon completion, US Airways and Continental Airlines will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2. To keep up with the growth of the Research Triangle area, the Raleigh-Durham Airport continues to make major improvements, among which are various renovation projects in Terminal 1. RDU Airport offers many amenities: Restaurants and shops, business services, parking choices -including hourly/daily parking, Park & Ride and Exit Express -with courtesy shuttles running between Park & Ride lots to the terminals; it also has a chapel and a big USO Lounge (2d floor, Terminal 1). Triangle Transit Airport offers transportation to/from the tri-cities and Research Triangle Park.

Fayetteville Grannis Field FAY --61.1 miles from RDU Airport--is situated in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the 'City of Dogwoods', and serves a 12-county area in the Sandhills of the southtern part of North Carolina, along the I-95 corridor. The Airport is served by U.S. Airways Express with daily service to its Charlotte NC hub, and by Delta/ASA with daily service to its Atlanta hub; both Airlines offer connections around the world. The passenger terminal offers Smarte Carte, ATM machine, wireless internet access, food and vending, video games and shoeshine service. Parking is available at the short-term (30 minutes free) and long-term lots. To get from the Airport to your destination, you can either rent a car from one of the five on-airport rental car agencies or take a taxi--a taxi cab booth is in the baggage claim area of the terminal. Directions: coming from Interstate 95, North or South, take Exit 44 via Snowhill Rd., travel west and follow the airport trailblazing signs for approximately 3 miles to Airport Rd. Turn right within 1000 feet; you will be on the airport's terminal access road, which circles the airport parking facilities.

3. Piedmont Triad Airport GSO --66 miles from RDU Airport--is located in Greensboro, North Carolina, with easy access to Interstate Hwys. I-40, I-85 and the future I-73 and I-74. Its location is convenient for the residents of and visitors to northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia. The airport is served by a host of major and minor airlines offering nonstop flights to over many US Cities, with connections around the globe. The modern terminal facility has an easy-access layout - ticketing and boarding concourses on the upper level and baggage claim and rental car services are on the lower level. The passenger terminal building contains 296,000 square feet of area on two public levels, 25 aircraft parking positions adjacent to the two concourses, as well as separate baggage claim and ticket counter areas for each concourse. The airfield facilities include 2 runways, with a third one under construction. Public parking is available in a 2,000 space multi-level parking garage. Surface lots for long-term parking are located across from the terminal building. Additional overflow parking is available just to the north of the terminal and on satellite lots nearby. All long-term and satellite lots are served regularly by airport shuttles. Piedmont Triad Airport offers a conference room located on the lower level next to the baggage claim area and designed to accommodate up to 20 people. A Marriott Hotel with 299 rooms is located on the loop road between the terminal building complex and Airport Parkway.
