Recife Guararapes International Airport REC
(formally named 'Recife/Guararapes Gilberto Freyre') - opened in 2004 - serves the northeastern Brazilian region of Pernambuco, and its industrial City of Recife. The industrial city of Recife has a large port, bordering on the Atlantic Ocean.
Among 15 contesting airports, the Department of Civil Aviation (SAC) declared Guararapes Airport in Spring 2015 as being the best in Brazil (voted by passengers).
REC Airport is 14 km from the city center of Recife (1 km from Boa Viagem beach) in the northern region of Pernambuco, Brazil, S.A, and accessible via motorwayy BR101 & Avenida Marechal Macrenhas de Moraes.
With an estimated 6.4M yearly passenger count and a long runway, Recife Guararapes International is served by some domestic & international airlines offering direct and connecting flights to all points of the globe.
At present, GOL Transportes Aeros is handling more than half of all of the Airport's flights. Three quarters of total flights are domestic - and one quarter international flights. As the Airport is expanding, more airlines and more destinations will be added.
