We are flying Cagliari to Rome to Boston, all on Alitalia. We have a 1h 5m layover in Rome. We are checking bags in Cagliari. Will this be enough time to get through passport control and change terminals? It was all booked at once through KLM (cheaper then direct through Alitalia!).

Yes, that should be enough time.

I am arriving T5 from Toronto with AirTransat and flying with Pegasus to Istanbul from T3. I have about 3 hours to this connection. Can I make it ?

No flights arrive in T5. It is a departure only terminal. You will arrive in T3. If you have checked bags you have just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Without checked bags this should be enough time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Then it will be the same terminal (T3) for both arrivals and departures I won't worry about the shuttle. Since I have to pick up my checked bag and go thru the passaport control and check-in at the Pegasus counter, do you think 3 hours still enough time ?

Yes, 3 hours should be enough time and yes, you won't have to worry about the shuttle.

Thanks a lot , now I can sleep in peace !

My daughter is meeting us at FCO Rome airport. She is being dropped off at Terminal 5 and needs to get to Terminal 3 (where we will be arriving). I understand there is a shuttle between the two terminals. Can she hop on the shuttle if she is not an airline passenger? Is the shuttle service between the two terminals a bus or a train? Where can she catch it? And how long does it take to get between the terminals via the shuttle? Thanks!

The shuttle is a bus and as far as I know they don't check to see whether you have a ticket or not. It takes maybe 20-30 minutes. Not many people take it T5->T1/2/3 since there are no arrivals in T5.

I am flying from Istanbul to Detroit with a connection in Rome. My layover is about 3 hours, and I guess I have to switch terminals. Would 3 hours be enough for me to catch my flight? How do I switch terminals? Also, do I need to go through passport control?

PS: My tickets are bought together, they re not seperate.

Both flights actually should be in Terminal 3 and you just have to go through security and to your departure gate. You do not need to go through passport control since you are not entering the Schengen Area.

    Thank you so much!

I am flying from Detroit to Rome on Delta and then from Rome to Palermo on Alitalia (one reservation). I have a 3 hour and 15 minute layover. What is the connection process like at FCO and will this be enough time? More specifically, which terminals will I likely arrive and depart in and will I need to shuttle or walk from my arrival terminal to my departure terminal?

Also, coming home I am flying Palermo to Rome on Alitalia and Rome to Detroit on Delta (one reservation). My layover is 2 hours and 5 minutes. Which terminals will I arrive and depart out of and will I need to shuttle from one to the other? I don't think there will be passport control since it is within Schengen, correct? I'm hoping this will be enough time as well. Thanks!

On the way to Palermo you will arrive in Terminal 3, go through passport control, and walk to your departure gate in Terminal 1. You have plenty of time. On the return you will arrive in Terminal 1, go through Schengen Exit passport control., and walk to your departure gate in Terminal 3. Since you should already have both boarding passes, you don't need to go to the Delta check-in counter in Terminal 5.

    Thank you!

ZAP, I just saw online that there is construction at FCO. This website details out the process pretty well but do you know if it is still going on? Makes me a little nervous with my layover on the way back only being 2 hours and 15 minutes. http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/airport-advisory-information.html

  • Arriving Term 2 and need to get to Term 5

I just got en email saying all Ryanair flights will be going in and out of Terminal 2 starting in July. I will be arriving on a domestic flight from Sicily at 8:00 am and need to get to terminal 5 for my return trip to the U.S which leaves at 12:00 noon. How do I get from the baggage claim of terminal 2 to the shuttle that goes from the departures level of terminal 3 to go to terminal 5? Are the arrival areas on the ground floor and the departures areas one level up? Are the terminals connected? Is it a long walk? Thanks!

  • Connecting T3 to T1

I am flying from Brazil to Rome arriving 07:15 at T3 with a connecting flight 09:00 to London at T1. Is it enough time? Will I have to go to passport control and how can I connect between terminals? Thanks.

If everything is on the same reservation you should not have to go through passport control and note that your London flight may actually depart from T3. Just follow signs to your departure gate.

    Thank you!

  • From T3 at 0640 to T1 at 0925 - can it be done?

My son will travel into Terminal 3 at 0640 with checked-in baggage from Buenos Aires, and depart on a seperate ticket from terminal 1 at 0925 to Belgrade. I understand he must collect luggage, go through security, walk to terminal 1, and re-checkin. He has 2hrs 45mins from the first flight landing to the second taking off. Two weeks later he will arrive from Belgrade at T1 at 19:35 and must depart to Abu Dhabi at 22:00 from T3 - 2hrs 25mins from landing to take off to collect baggage, go through security, walk to T3 and re-checkin. Will he have enough time on both occassions?

Both connections should be possible but don't leave much time to spare.

Fly into FCO from US arrive at 10:30am. Have separate ticket to Cantania on same day. Do I go through customs and retrieve my luggage? Then check luggage again? Also, is there a pass I can purchase to help get through customs or check in at FCO any faster?

Yes, since you have two separate tickets you will go through passport control, claim your bags, take them to your second airline's check in desk, get your boarding pass, and go through security. You can get through check in faster by buying a business class ticket to Catania, though I doubt it's worth it.

travelling from Philadelphia to Rome on American Airlines arr Rome 9:15am on June25--separate ticket on Alitalia to Florence departing 10:25 am...is this enough time? confused on whether we have to get our bags and go through another terminal again after passport control or not--how likely is it we will make the connection?

With checked bags that is not enough time. You will have to transfer them yourself from American to Alitalia.

  • Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 in about an hour?

Hi I am traveling from the US and landing in FCO at 7:45am and have another flight at 9:25am on Atalia Air with no checked bags (carry on only) I believe I will have to go from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 to catch the flight. I am a US citizen so will have to go through passport control and these are two separate tickets so I most likely will have to go through security again. Would I have enough time to catch my flight? Sounds like the steps are: 1. Get off plane 2. Go through passport control 3. Walk to Terminal 1 4. Security Line 5. Go to the Gate. Will I have enough time? Any thoughts would be much appreciated! Thanks

Yes, that should be enough time. You can check in online for your Alitalia flight and then you can go directly to passport control and your departure gate. You won't have to go through security.

Thanks for your response. I won't have to go through security again even though I have a separate ticket and am entering a different terminal?

Since you're coming from the US, no, you won't. Even if you don't check in online for your Alitalia flight you can get your boarding pass from the Alitalia transfer desk.

Had an hour and 15mins. connecting time in FCO from AUH going to TXL by Air Berlin. Is it enough and how to transfer from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1? Should I go through Passport Control or any checking? Thanks.

Yes, you will go through passport control and security and then to your departure gate. That is a difficult transfer.

Hello, I have flight 16.6.2016 from BUDAPEST to NEW YORK with transit in ROMA. Arrival to T1 at 8.45 and Departure from T3 at 9.40. Both flights on 1 ticket with Alitalia. Are 55 minutes enough ? Should I go trough passport control in ROMA? What skould I do in FCO? Just go from T1 to T3 to my departure gate?

In Rome you will go through Schengen Exit passport control and to your departure gate. You should have just enough time.

Schengen EXIT passport control is in my departure Terminal T3 or where should I go?

Yes, I believe you will go through it in T3 on the way to your departure gate.

    Thank you :)
