I've booked separate tickets - ATH to FCO to ATL. Aegean air arriving at 10am and DL departing at 12:15pm. I will have a checked bag. I had no idea FCO was such a mess. Am I in trouble?

2hr 15min should be enough time. There a shuttle at Terminal 3 to get to terminal 5.

  • FCO Construction

I read recently on the Delta website that there is construction at FCO which requires you to shuttle from Terminal 1 to 3 and vice versa if you are coming in from an international to Schengen destination or Schengen to international destination. Does anyone know whether it is still going on and whether it adds a lot of confusion to connecting? I am flying from DTW -> FCO -> PMO on Delta/Alitalia (one reservation) later this month. Link to airport advisory is below. http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/airport-advisory-information.html

I don't know, this is the first I've heard of it. The FCO website is notoriously bad so that's why so many people have to ask questions here. If it's true it will make all connections at FCO much more difficult.

  • LHR - FCO - NAP

Hello. I am arriving at FCO at 7:25pm from London Heathrow and then have to catch an Alitalia Flight at 9:45pm to Naples. I am a US Citizen, I do have a checked bag, and my ticket to Naples on Alitalia was booked separately from my British Airways London to Rome ticket. Do I have enough time to make this connection?

Yes, that should be enough time.

Even with having a checked bag and separate tickets? I'm a little nervous after reading the below. Thank you for your help!

Yes, over 2 hours in the evening should be enough time.

  • Transit to Alghero
    Jun 28, 2016
On UA flight arriving at FCO at 7:45am, connecting to Alitalia to Alghero at 9:40. Too tight ??

Maybe it's possible without checked bags. With checked bags I wouldn't try it.

Many thanks. Do you where the transfer desk is located ?? At exit of customs or at the domestic terminal (3 ??)

You will have to go to the Alitalia check-in desk in Terminal 1.

  • Procedure for connecting flights
    Jun 28, 2016
My daughter is flying to FCO from Bari on Alitalia. She is than flying to Minneapolis on Delta. She has a 3 hour layover. What terminal will she fly into and which will she fly out of? Will she need to go through passport inspection? Both flights are operated by Delta. Will she need to collect her checked bag before heading to the next terminal to catch her flight to Minneapolis or will the airline transfer it?

She will fly into Terminal 3 and out of Terminal 1. She will go through Schengen exit passport control. If both tickets are on the same reservation then she doesn't have to do anything with her bags in Rome.

    Thank you!

  • Zurich - Rome - Addis Ababa
    Jun 28, 2016
We will be traveling from Zurich on Swiss Air arriving FCO at 10:35 pm and connecting to Addis Ababa on Ethiopian Air at 11:40 pm. I think both are located at terminal 3. We will have checked in for both flights on same ticket with carry-on bags. Do we have to go through passport control? Is 1 hour, 5 minutes connection enough time? Thank you.

You will go through Schengen Exit passport control. You should have enough time.

  • Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 with hold luggage
    Jun 26, 2016
We are arriving in Rome (FCO) Terminal 3 from the UK on Easyjet and wish to catch an Al Italia flight to Brindisi 1h 20 mins after our arrival time from the UK. We will have hold luggage. Is this feasible?

    No, it is not feasible.

  • Transfer to Cagliari
    Jun 25, 2016
I'm flying Bergen (Norway)-Amsterdam-Rome-Cagliari (all within Schengen). In Rome, will my luggage be transferred directly to Cagliari, or will I have to pick it up, clear customs, and re-check for the domestic flight? How much time should I allow for this connection/transfer?

Forgot to mention -- all flights are KLM, but the Rome-Cagliari flight has KLM flight number operated by AlItalia.

Yes, your bags will be checked through to Cagliari. All flights are within the Schengen Area so you don't have to go through passport control.

Yes, I know I don't have to go through passport control. But is there customs control? For example, when I recently flew Frankfurt-Oslo-Bergen (also all within Schengen), I had to collect my baggage in Oslo, clear customs, and go to the baggage drop-off again to leave my baggage (still the same airline all legs of the trip). This was because the Oslo-Bergen flight was a domestic route, and arrived at the side of the airport where you don't have to clear customs when picking up your bags and and exiting the building.

  • short layover!
    Jun 23, 2016
We are flying Cagliari to Rome to Boston, all on Alitalia. We have a 1h 5m layover in Rome. We are checking bags in Cagliari. Will this be enough time to get through passport control and change terminals? It was all booked at once through KLM (cheaper then direct through Alitalia!).

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • T5 to T3
    Jun 23, 2016
I am arriving T5 from Toronto with AirTransat and flying with Pegasus to Istanbul from T3. I have about 3 hours to this connection. Can I make it ?

No flights arrive in T5. It is a departure only terminal. You will arrive in T3. If you have checked bags you have just enough time if everything goes perfectly. Without checked bags this should be enough time.

Thanks for the quick reply. Then it will be the same terminal (T3) for both arrivals and departures I won't worry about the shuttle. Since I have to pick up my checked bag and go thru the passaport control and check-in at the Pegasus counter, do you think 3 hours still enough time ?

Yes, 3 hours should be enough time and yes, you won't have to worry about the shuttle.

Thanks a lot , now I can sleep in peace !

  • Terminal 5 to Terminal 3
    Jun 21, 2016
My daughter is meeting us at FCO Rome airport. She is being dropped off at Terminal 5 and needs to get to Terminal 3 (where we will be arriving). I understand there is a shuttle between the two terminals. Can she hop on the shuttle if she is not an airline passenger? Is the shuttle service between the two terminals a bus or a train? Where can she catch it? And how long does it take to get between the terminals via the shuttle? Thanks!

The shuttle is a bus and as far as I know they don't check to see whether you have a ticket or not. It takes maybe 20-30 minutes. Not many people take it T5->T1/2/3 since there are no arrivals in T5.

  • Istanbul-Rome-Detroit

I am flying from Istanbul to Detroit with a connection in Rome. My layover is about 3 hours, and I guess I have to switch terminals. Would 3 hours be enough for me to catch my flight? How do I switch terminals? Also, do I need to go through passport control?

PS: My tickets are bought together, they re not seperate.

Both flights actually should be in Terminal 3 and you just have to go through security and to your departure gate. You do not need to go through passport control since you are not entering the Schengen Area.

    Thank you so much!

  • DTW > FCO > PMO
    Jun 21, 2016
I am flying from Detroit to Rome on Delta and then from Rome to Palermo on Alitalia (one reservation). I have a 3 hour and 15 minute layover. What is the connection process like at FCO and will this be enough time? More specifically, which terminals will I likely arrive and depart in and will I need to shuttle or walk from my arrival terminal to my departure terminal?

Also, coming home I am flying Palermo to Rome on Alitalia and Rome to Detroit on Delta (one reservation). My layover is 2 hours and 5 minutes. Which terminals will I arrive and depart out of and will I need to shuttle from one to the other? I don't think there will be passport control since it is within Schengen, correct? I'm hoping this will be enough time as well. Thanks!

On the way to Palermo you will arrive in Terminal 3, go through passport control, and walk to your departure gate in Terminal 1. You have plenty of time. On the return you will arrive in Terminal 1, go through Schengen Exit passport control., and walk to your departure gate in Terminal 3. Since you should already have both boarding passes, you don't need to go to the Delta check-in counter in Terminal 5.

    Thank you!

ZAP, I just saw online that there is construction at FCO. This website details out the process pretty well but do you know if it is still going on? Makes me a little nervous with my layover on the way back only being 2 hours and 15 minutes. http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/traveling-with-us/airports-and-aircraft/airports/airport-advisory-information.html

  • Arriving Term 2 and need to get to Term 5
    Jun 20, 2016
I just got en email saying all Ryanair flights will be going in and out of Terminal 2 starting in July. I will be arriving on a domestic flight from Sicily at 8:00 am and need to get to terminal 5 for my return trip to the U.S which leaves at 12:00 noon. How do I get from the baggage claim of terminal 2 to the shuttle that goes from the departures level of terminal 3 to go to terminal 5? Are the arrival areas on the ground floor and the departures areas one level up? Are the terminals connected? Is it a long walk? Thanks!
