FCO has 4 terminals (T1, T2, T3 & T5. You will arrive at FCO, Terminal 5 (for U.S. & Israel flights), where you need to go through special security check & passport control before proceeding to your connecting terminal /gates. This area also has a special assistance lounge, you may want to drop by. A shuttle bus outside T5 connects to T3, and another shuttles runs between all terminals & carparks every 15 mins. The time of 1hr 10 mins is extremely tight!

Actually, you will arrive in Terminal 3, Terminal 5 is a departure-only terminal. Your flight to Athens' location depends on what airline you are on. If it's Alitalia, then you need to get to Terminal 1, which is connected to Terminal 3 but not particularly close. Delta does not fly from Rome to Athens - even though the flight has a Delta code, look closely at your reservation, it probably says "Operated by Alitalia"

I did check and it is Alitalia. So I guess we will have to go from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1. Thanks for your information.

Since both of your flights are within Schengen it's possible, but you're talking Italy and you're talking Alitalia here, so I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of your flights is late.

It looks like we will be flying from Marseille with Air France, and with Alitalia to Lamenzia...would that make a difference?

Yes, it's a help, since the AF flight is more likely to be on-time. Both will still be within the Schengen area of Terminal 1.

Since you're staying within Schengen it should be checked through to Lamezia and you won't have to claim in Rome. It's a very tight connection, so any mess up and you'll miss it, but luckily Alitalia has lots of flights from Rome to Lamezia, so if you miss, you can be rebooked.

If your tickets are bought on the same reservation you probably won't have to pay a change fee if you miss your connection. However, I think you will be able to make it.

Bought on separate reservation. each directly thru united and alitalia, respectively. do you know which terminal is customs and baggage pickup?

You will arrive in terminal 3, even though United flights depart from Terminal 5. This website does a good job covering it - http://www.roninrome.com/transportation/where-to-meet-at-fco You will then have to walk to Terminal 1 for your Alitalia flight.

All you need to do on arrival at FCO is follow signs to 'Boarding Area' (gates B through H). T3 has Boarding Are with gates D1-10 & 6-19. (All Boarding areas B through H are inter-connected.

Thanks momar13. Forgot to say that I have Aegean Air app on my phone, so I can do a web check in. Where would I find a convenient kiosk in T3 to print out my boarding pass? Or do you think I'd be better to check in via a computer & have the printed document - in case I can't find a kiosk? Thanks again.

First find out if your departing airline from Turin will transfer your bags to US Airways & which boarding area they arrive at - if not, you would have to claim your bags and check them in with US Airways. Terminal 5 with boarding area G is for US flights. T5 can only be accessed from T3 via shuttle bus. All other terminals are connected at their boarding areas. At FCO, after passport control at Terminal 5, take the shuttle bus outside to Terminal 3. Meet your mother at T3's arrivals level, in front of the information counter.

I think 30 to 45m is enough

At FCO, after going through passport clearance, you have a choice of using the special shuttle bus at T5 to T3, then walk past the control tower and Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 (T1 & T2 are connected at Arrivals). OR take the free shuttles running between all terminals and carparks daily, every 15 mins; (during 1am-4am you can also request such shuttle by using the intercom situated at every shuttle stop.) You have enough time.

Your ticket, boarding pass and on arrival the overhead screens should indicate which of Terminals 1, 2 or 3 you arrive at/ depart from. (When connecting from gate to gate, follow signs to "Boarding Area" (gates B through H). All boarding areas are inter-connected, except Terminal 5's boarding area G, which needs a shuttle. Both airlines Delta & United use Terminal 5 at FCO. You may want to meet in front of the information counter in the Arrivals area, where you also can get some transportation information. At FCO Delta arrives at Terminal 5 where you need to go through passport check and may need to pick up your bags if Delta does not transfer bags to Meridian, which uses Terminal 2. You have two options to get to T2: (a) take the free shuttle bus outside running between terminals and carparks every 15 mins., or (b) take the special shuttle to T3 and walk over to T2 (the control tower is between them. You have plenty of time.

At FCO, Air France will arrive at Terminal 1. You can meet him near the information counter in the Arrivals Hall.

At FCO T1 has Boarding area B & T3 Boarding areas D & H. On arrival at T1 follow signs to "Boarding Area D or H (your boarding pass and the overhead screens should indicate flight & gate numbers) - all boarding areas, except G, a inter-connected. You can also take the shuttle departing every 15 mins by requeting service via intercom at every shuttle stop.

At FCO you will arrive at T3 and depart from T1. ( FCO's Terminals 1 & 2 are joined and share the Arrivals level; between Terminals 2 & 3 is the air control tower.) After going through passport check and customs clearance, then look for the sign to "Boarding Area B" (gates B1-B30). You have sufficient time.

50 mins layover at FCO should suffice for your transfer within T1.
