We'll be flying 6:40am flight to Rome(FCO) from Venice (VCE), arriving at 7:45am. Our flight to New York (JFK) leaves at 9:45am. Is that plenty of time to make the connection? I'm assuming that first flight is domestic, so there won't be a problem at all. We don't plan to check any bags.

Yes, that should be enough time, especially if your flight to JFK is on Alitalia meaning you don't have to take the shuttle to Terminal 5. If you do have to go to Terminal 5 it will be a little more difficult but still doable.

We'll be flying out on American Airline, so it'll have to be T5, unfortunately. As long as AirItalia flight leaves on time... ;)

  • JFK - FCO - Venice. Claim baggage in Rome?

Flying American to Rome, connecting to Alitalia to Venice. Do I have to claim my bags and go through customs in Rome and then re-check? Or do the bags go through to Venice? We have 2.5 hrs in Rome.

If your bags are only tagged through to Rome due to purchasing separate tickets, obviously you would have to claim them in Rome.

I did not purchase the tickets separately, I purchased a flight to venice through American airlines. Obviously I know that if my bags are tagged to Rome then I would claim them in Rome. That is not the least bit helpful as an answer. What I need to know is WHETHER my bags will be tagged to Rome or Venice.

In that case your bags should be tagged through to Venice and you will collect them when you get to Venice (in Europe you do not have to collect checked bags when entering a country if just connecting). You will just go through Passport Control as you travel from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1.

  • T3 to T1

I arrive FCO from Dubrovnik via Vueling at 1625 T3 one checked bag then depart Alitalia at 1905 for Venice. Is this enough time, and do you have tips for getting to T1 most efficiently? I don't speak/read Italian

Yes, that should be enough time. Rome is an International airport so there's signs and really you just have to look for the sign that says T1. Maybe take a look at the map so you can orient yourself.

Arriving in Rome at 11:40am via Air Transat, terminal 3. Connecting flight not on same ticket, need to get luggage, do security, flight leaves at 2pm from terminal 1 Alitalia, do we have enough time (2hr & 20min)?

Yes, that should be doable. You should be out of immigration by 12:30, so that leaves you 90 minutes to get to T1, check in and get through security and to your gate.

Thanks ZAP, puts us at ease knowing we should be ok for time.

You will not have to carry your checked bags from T3 to T1.

  • Passport control in FCO?

I will be connecting in Rome after departing Palermo and will continue to LAX. Will I need to go through passport control in Rome? If so, is 1 hour an adequate connection (both flights are on Alitalia)?

You will be a 'Schengen' (domestic) arrival at FCO. You are an international arrival at LAX & will need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance, before entering the arrivals hall.

  • Connection from T3 to T1 at FCO with one baggage for Check-in

I am landing from Delhi by Air India at 1905 hours at T3. I have connecting flight of Alitalia from T1 to Barcelona at 2120 hours. I have in hand one piece of baggage in Air India flight, which is to be checked-in on Alitalia flight to Barcelona at FCO airport. I need your urgent help to guide me. Firstly how to proceed at FCO T3 after Immigration Check for T1 departure. (by walk or some free shuttle bus or train/tube) Secondly, where I have to give one piece of checked-in baggage. Will there be any Alitalia transfer check-in counter at T3 or I have to carry bag and go and give at T1 check-in counter. PLEASE ASSIST AND GUIDE.

First, I assure you that you have enough transfer time - even if you need to collect & re-check-in your bags. If you bought both legs of the journey on one ticket, or your India-departing airline will make baggage transfer to your Alialia flight (check first) - all you need to do after immigration procedure is to watch signs to 'Boarding Area' (T1 has Boarding Area B: gates B1-B30 (B14-B23 on ground level, & B27-B30 (by escalator); and B1-B13 on first level). All boarding areas are connected. NOTE: If your first airline does not transfer bags to your second one, you need to claim your bags & re-check them in with Alitalia at T1.

Aegean uses Terminal 3 at FCO.

  • Transfer from T3 to T1

Hi, I am traveling on Etihad to Rome and connectinting to Barcelona. I arrive T3 at 7:10am and the next flight(Alitalia) leaves from T1 at 8:35. Will I have time to passport check/transfer and does my baggage have to go through customs?

If your tickets were bought on one reservation your baggage will be transfered to barcelona, you won't have to claim it in Rome.

What about customs? So technically I will clear immigration and pick my bags up in Barcelona as a domestic flight?

  • Toronto - Rome - Casablanca FCO connection time
    Jul 1, 2014

Looking at a flight from Toronto (Canada) to Rome, then Rome to Casablanca (Morocco) - is a 1hr 10m layover enough? Would I have to change terminals? The layover is from 1300-1400h on a Saturday in late October. Both flights are with Alitalia. Thanks in advance for any insight!!

Both flights will be in Terminal 3, but 70 minutes is awfully tight. I suppose it's possible.

Is there any way to find the gates for arrival from Bucharest and connecting to LAX? both flights on Alitalia in 1 week with 1hr in between?

You may arrive at either Terminal 1 (T1) or T3, and depart from T3 (which also is used by Alitalia for 'Non-Schengen (foreign) flights. When connecting from gate to gate, follow signs to 'Boarding Area'. I suggest you open www.ifly.com/fco, then click on 'Terminal Map' under 'QUICK LINKS', and scroll down to the detailed text.

  • Connecting Aegean to United via FCO

My details are below, which involves a 50m layover. Is this possible? It doesn't seem so but would like to know the details of the transfer: Aug 28 A3 650 ATH 8:45AM FCO 10:00AM 2h 15m Airbus A320 Economy (O) Layover in FCO 0h 50m UA 967 FCO 10:50AM IAD 2:55PM 10h 5m Boeing 767 Economy (K)

No, that's not really possible as transferring to United means you have to go to Terminal 5.

Any idea why Google ITA would spit this out as an option?

Because it doesn't know what a pain in the ass getting to Terminal 5 is and since United has very little connecting traffic at FCO, they haven't bothered to increase their minimum connecting time there accordingly since Terminal 5 opened.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through EU exit passport control when exiting the Schengen concourse and then security at your departure gate.

this ZAP guy always says you have enough time, he must be working for FRA....its a horrific airport and you will miss most connections

I do not work for FRA

  • Connecting time (PMO-FCO-LAX)

I'm so glad I found this forum. We will be flying from PMO to FCO arriving at 9:10am and departing FCO for LAX at 10:10am. Both flights are on AZ. Will 1 hour be enough connecting time at FCO?

forgot to mention, we will be carrying our bags onboard.

Yes, since both flights are on Alitalia that should be enough time. Just follow signs to your departure gate, you will have to go through security on your way to the gate.

It appears that our flight from PMO arrives in Terminal 1 and our flight to LAX departs from Term 3. With 1 hour to connect, do you still feel this is enough time?

  • Connecting between Alitalia and United

Looking to go from Palermo to Rome via Alitalia, arriving FCO at 7:20 a.m. United flight to Newark departs 9:50 a.m. Enough time? Will I need to claim bags, go through customs, etc.?

If your tickets were bought together, Alitalia can check your bags through to United. You do not have to go through customs as both Palermo and Rome are in Italy. You do however, have to go to Terminal 5 to get your boarding pass and go through security. There is a shuttle bus from T1/2/3 to T5. You should have enough time.
