  • Connection on Alitalia separate booking

Hi, I will be arriving in Rome from the US at 8:10AM. I need to make a separate one way booking to Athens on Alitalia. I would like to get to Athens as early as possible; what is the safest bet on time I will need to collect luggage, passport control, and re-check luggage with Alitalia?

    That should be enough time.

I have a flight from Athens to Rome (FCO - terminal 1) that then connects me from Rome (FCO - terminal 3) to Toronto. I have a layover of 1hr and 30mins. Is this enough time to clear passport control and change from terminal 1 to 3?

Yes, that should be enough time. Just follow the signs to your departure gate. You will pass through Schengen Exit passport control on the way.

  • Connection terminal 3 to terminal 1 non schengen.

My flight with Emirates during the holiday season (august) willl arrive at 13:20 at terminal 3, and will depart from terminal 1 at 15:00 with Alitalia. We booked both flights seperatly, which forces us to first pick up our bags from the Emirates flight and move to the Alitalia checkin (and checkin again ofcourse). This all needs to be done within 1 hour and 40 minutes. Is this even possible? And do we need to pass the customs again? Thanks!

You will clear Schengen Passport control on your path to the Emirates baggage claim. Since you say where you are flying on Alitalia is non-schengen you will have to go through Schengen exit passport control, but as you may know that's a very quick process. You will also have to go through security. It's possible, but quite difficult to make the connection you describe.

Hi, I have a Delta ATL-FCO flight that lands at 9:50am, with a connection on Alitalia FCO-MLA at 10:50am. It is part of one ticket, but will I be able to make the connection? Do I need to go through security and customs?

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through Schengen passport control and security on your way to Terminal 1.

Arriving at FCO at 20:30 on Sunday from St. Petersburg. Flight to Skopje is at 21:45. Tickets purchased together. 1h 15 min is enough time? I might have only carry-on luggage. Need to go through Schengen exit on my way to terminal 1?

Hey there all, I'm a Moroccan Passeport holder, I got a roundtrip with Alitalia between Casablanca- Istanbul transit at FCO I have 3 questions : -As a Moroccan, am I gonna need a Italian Transit visa or an a ATV for transfers to/from Terminal 3/1. - I will arrive with alitalia at FCO T3 at 20:15 for a 2:25 Layover to Casablanca at 22:40, am I gonna need to take the luggage & recheck in with Alitalia ? or it's an Auto transfer ? (I don't wanna lose it) -There's a lot of negative reviews about Alitalia & FCO Airport about baggages, is there any suggestions ? Thank you.

I believe we have the same flight just 1 more question added to this subject. On those hours FCO will be crowded like always ? for the 2:30 Minutes transit

Your baggage will be transferred automatically. You will have enough time. I believe you will need a Schengen Airport Transit Visa issued by the Italian embassy or consulate.

Thank you Zap, just verified that I don't need an ATV, but if you can still help me, if I changed from T3 to T1 am I gonna be obliged to enter schengen area ? or there's a Alitalia transit airside check in ?

    I believe there's a walkway directly from T3 to the Non-Schengen area of T1.

Arrive Air Canada on 6/17/15 at 8:30am. Will we have enough time to make connection via Alitalia to Palermo at 10:05am?

Purchased on one reservation I think that's enough time. Purchased separately it will be a bit difficult.

Arriving at FCO at 10 am on a Saturday. Aegean airlines from Athens. Transferring to United flight to WA DC. Only a 50 minute layover. Is this possible???

Tickets purchased separately or together? Separately it is impossible. If together and your bags are tagged through to IAD, you can go to the United gate in the T3 satellite and have your credentials checked after you go through schngen exit passport control and you just might be able to make it.

We arrive at terminal 3 on a Lufthansa flight at 14:05. We will be booking a flight on Alitalia to Catania at 16:45. I believe Alitalia flys out of terminal 1, is there enough time to make it?

Yes, you are correct and yes, that should be enough time.

Not sure if we will go through customs in Frankfurt as our flight is Vancouver - Frankfurt - Rome. If we go through in Rome & need to collect our luggage & then check in with Alitalia, will there still be enough time? Sorry to be so confused.

Yes, you will go through Schengen immigration when you get to frankfurt. You will not go through immigration in Rome. However, if you are purchasing two separate tickets and have checked bags you will have to claim them from Lufthansa and bring them to Alitalia.

Yes, that should be enough time. You just have to go through Schngen exit passport control.

We Are schedule to arrive at Rome FCO from Istanbul at terminal 3 on Turkish air Line at 10:00 am and have a connection on Air Canada to Montréal at terminal 3 at 11:30 am. We have two séparate tickets! Is the 1 hour 30 minutes anough Time to get our luggage and go through customs?

Since you purchased two separate tickets that will be very difficult. However, since both airlines are in Star Alliance and you will not have to enter the Schengen Area, ask the Turkish counter in Istanbul if they can check your bags through to Montreal. Show your Montreal confirmation to them. If they can. Then you only have to go to the Air Canada Transfer Desk or Gate Agent once you arrive in Rome and won't have to do anything with your baggage or go through passport control.

I will arrive from JKF Airport on Delta at 7:10 am on 2/21/15 and have a connection on Alitalia 50 minutes later. Will I have enough time?

That should barely be enough time. If your Alitalia flight is within the Schengen area you will have to go through passport control and walk a considerable distance.

Hello We will arrive to FCO airport from Israel, and have a connection from FCO to Madrid. Both are with Alitalia. We have only 1 hour and 10 minutes connection time. Do you think this is reasonable? Should we change to another flight with 6 hours connection time? Thank you very much!

I really need an answer as soon as possible. Thank you very much! :-)

Yes, that should be enough time. You will go through Schengen passport control as you walk from your arrival gate in T3 to your departure gate in T1. YOu don't have to do anything with your baggage.

Thank you for the quick answer! Are we suppose to get through schengen zone instead of usual passport control? Does it matter if we are flying from Israel? Can you tell us what signs do we need to look for after we land? for example- "passport control" or "terminal T1" and etc'. Again - thank you very much!

I would follow the signs for Terminal 1 - it might even be signs specifically referring to the gates in Terminal 1. No, it doesn't matter that you're coming from Israel.

I have flight from Abudhabi to Barcelona through Rome and I have to change the terminal in Rome from T3 to T1 and I understand that I have to go through Schengen Passport check but are they going to allow me to enter and change from T3 to T1? because Italy not included in my Schengen visa I have Schengen for five countries only

As long as you hold a confirmed ticket to the country on your visa they should let you though passport control in rome.
