I am flying from the USA and have a 1hr 5 min layover in Rome going to ATH. Will I have to go through passport control and security? In the rome airport, is there an expedited passport/security line for first-class? Does anyone know if these are in the same terminals? Thank you!

You will go through Passport control, but don't have to go through security. You will arrive in Terminal 3 but depart from Terminal 1 (assuming you are flying to Athens on Alitalia), but they are all connected.

  • Chicago / Rome / Zadar -- will i have enough time?
    Jun 6, 2016
My flight would get into Rome at 10:30 via Chicago/O'Hare. Then I would need to claim my baggage and go through customs and check-in for another flight on Vueling (booked separately) to Zadar, Croatia at 12:40 (including security screening again.) I would only have 2 hours and 10 minutes. Will I have enough time for all of that? Are the gates for these in the same terminal

That would be barely enough time. Yes, both flights will be in Terminal 3.

  • Is 55 minutes enough for my connection?
    Jun 4, 2016
Hi, I will fly with Alitalia, I will arrive to FCO at 08:45 from Budapest to Terminal 1 and my flight to New York departs at 09:40 from Terminal 3. My flight tickets are on the same reservation. I have only 55 minutes to change planes (and terminals), do you think this is enough time? I am a bit worried that I will miss my second flight.

That should be enough time if your flight from Budapest is on-time.

  • Only two hours before flight to Australia due to rescheduling
    Jun 2, 2016
Hi, My flight from Malta to Rome has been rescheduled so I now have only two hours between that flight and my flight to Australia. Both flights are via terminal 3. However, the flights are on different tickets, so I will have to collect my luggage then re-book it in. Will I have to go through customs to collect my luggage and then back through security? Will I have enough time? Thank you.

Malta and Italy are both in the Schengen area, so you don't have to go through passport control after your flight from Malta. You just claim your luggage, re-check it with your second airline, go through Schengen exit passport control, and security. You have just enough time if everything goes smoothly.

I arrive at FCO on Alitalia on flight 1588 from Cagliari at termina 1 at 8:35. I have a United flight to Washington DC flight 291, that leaves from terminal 5 at 10:50. Do I take a shuttle bus from T1to T5 and will I have enough time? I only have carry on baggage.

Yes, you have to take the shuttle bus. You have just enough time if the flight from Cagliari is on-time.

  • T1 to T5 going to DC
    Jul 15, 2016
I arrive on ALITALIA AT T1 from Cagliari. I must go to T5 to get a United flight to DC. How do I get from T1 to T5? I have about 2 hours. Do I need to go thru security and customs?

You take a shuttle bus. You will have to go through Security end Schengen exit passport control and then take another shuttle bus to your departure gate.

Were you able to make this connection? Did you have checked luggage? I have almost the same connection time and am worried.

  • Connecting with no visa & separate tickets (risk?)
    May 31, 2016
I already have a flight from BUE to FCO (Alitalia, but not bought to Alitalia directly), then I have to buy a SEPARATE flight from FCO to LED Russia (Alitalia but operated by Aeroflot). Connection time 6hs, but...: I can't exit the airport because I have no visa. I plan to have carry-on baggage only and to do the FCO-LED check-in online. I will have no boarding pass printed and have no access to counter outside transfer area. What risk do I have? What happen if online check-in fails? Do I buy the second flight (FCO-LED) from Aeroflot directly or Alitalia (code share) ?

  • Flying into Fuimicino-Rome and connecting to Barcelona
    May 31, 2016
I am flying into Fuimicino-Rome with Turkish Airlines and layover of 120 minutes, with vueling to Barcelona with checked-in baggage. Where do I need to do immigration ? do I have enough time to catch the Barcelona flight?

I don't hold an EU passport. However, I don't require visa.

You will pass through Schengen passport control in Rome. You should have just enough time with checked baggage (you will likely have to transfer it yourself).

  • Alitalia terminal connection and passport control

Flying on Alitalia from Boston to Rome with connecting flight on Alitalia to Florence. Will I have to change terminals? Will I have to claim luggage in Rome and recheck? Where will I go though passport control--Rome or Florence? Thank you.

You will arrive in Terminal 3, go through Schengen passport control and walk to your departure gate in Terminal 1. You don't have to do anything with your baggage.

  • FCO connection
    May 28, 2016
Hi I'm booked Alitalia YYZ to FCO and connect to Catania with checked bags and a connection time of 1:35. Do I have to clear customs/immigration in FCO or CTA? If in FCO, I assume I need to claim my bags and recheck bags with AZ? Is this connection feasible? Thanks

  • 1.5 hrs to get from Terminal 3 to Terminal 5
    Jun 17, 2016
I'm flying in from Beirut during peak summer travel season in July and have 90 minutes to get from T3 to T5 to make my flight to Chicago. Is that enough time? Will I have to go through security or passport control?

you don't have to go to terminal 5 just stay in term 3 and follow the flight gate you will pick up your boarding pass at the gate and go through security screening there. I had the same questions 2years ago but ended up staying in term 3.

Hi can you help me I have tickets from Jordan to USA so I will arrive in FCO terminal 3 then I have to go to terminal 5 to get my flight so how much time it will take by walk, thank you

  • 60-minute connection
    May 31, 2016
Hi, I'm flying from Toronto to Florence via FCO. Originally, the connection time is 120 minutes. Now the departure/arrival time from Toronto to FCO is changed which leave me only 60 minutes. All flights are booked on one itinerary. Would I make it to the flight from FCO to FLR? Do I need to go thru security? Thanks

You just have to go through passport control and to your departure gate. I won't say 60 minutes is impossible, but it's difficult.
