I have an Alitalia flight from Belgrade to Rome at 1:40 PM There is a KLM flight from Rome to Toronto at 3:15 PM Will 1hr 35m be enough time to pick-up bags and go through customs/passport control?

If both tickets are on the same reservation then you won't have to pick up bags or go through passport control. Also, both flights will be operated by Alitalia.

  • Bari to Miami
    Dec 19, 2015
We will be flying from Bari to Miami in March. We will be on Alitalia with US passports. The connection time in FCO is only 1:20. Should this be enough? The baggage goes straight through, doesn't it?

Yes, that should be enough time. Your baggage will go straight through and the only formalities you have to go through in Rome is Schengen Exit passport control.

    Thank you

  • FCO Alitalia Connection

Hi. I have a 1hr 10 connection time, I fly in CAIRO-ROME (alitalia) then ROME-BARCELONA. Will this be enough time to change? I have an EU Passport

Yes, that should be enough time. However, since you are coming from Cairo you may be subject to extra scrutiny going through Schengen Passport control and security.

  • VCE-FCO-JFK connectino time
    Dec 10, 2015
I will be traveling on Monday Jan. 4 on AZ from VCE-FCO connecting to FCO-JFK (also Alitalia). This will be my first time through the Rome airport and I'm a bit worried about the connection time-- my original booking allowed for 3 hours, due to a flight schedule change I'll have only 80 minutes. If it makes any difference I'll be traveling in the "Magnifica" class on an award ticket, and I will have checked a bag (which I assume will be automatically transferred in Rome). Thanks for any reassurance!

Yes, all you have to do is go from your arrival gate in Terminal 1 to your departure gate in Terminal 3. You will go through Schengen exit passport control on your way which is a very brief process. You should have enough time. You don't have to do anything with your baggage.

  • Transferring from T1 to T3
    Dec 9, 2015
I arrive at 1745 into FCO, need to transfer from T1 to T3, my flight to AUH departs at 2145, will I have enough time to collect my bags and re-checkin with EY?

That should be plenty of time - 4 hours is a ton of time. Also Alitalia and Etihad have a codeshare agreement. Unless you purchased two separate tickets you won't have to claim your bags in Rome.

Thank you for your response, yes I have booked two seperate tickets, it's with Blue Air and EY.

Blue Air flights arrive in Terminal 2

  • Will I have time to make my connection?
    Dec 26, 2015
I arrive at FCO on a KLM flight from ATL. I only have 1 hr 10 min to make my connection on a KLM flight to CTA. Is this doable? I realize I'll need to go through passport control, but is it possible to check my bags all the way through from ATL to Sicily?

Yes, your bags will be checked through to Sicily, you won't have to claim them in Rome. Also note that your first flight will be operated by Delta and your second will be operated by Alitalia - neither will be operated by KLM. You can make that connection.

I am on a similar flight tomorrow. Delta from ATL (arrive 9:20 am) and then to Malta. 1:20 minute layover. Delta webs says budget an extra 45 minutes to move from Term 3 to Term 1. Q1: Will I have to recheck luggage? Q2: Is this time doable? Q3: Is there a expedited lane for Business Class ticket holders?

  • BA to AGean
    Dec 2, 2015
we arrive BA from London at 4;10pm and need to connect to Agean to Athens at 5:25pm , will that be enough time ?

Without checked baggage that should be enough time. With checked baggage on two separate itineraries it might be a little difficult to get through passport control, claim your bags, and get them to the Aegean check-in counter on-time.

  • Vancouver to Rome with BA then Alitalia to Palermo 1h45min
    Nov 21, 2015
I am booking a flight from Expedia and am concerned that I won't have enough time to get my luggage checked to arrive safely. Will carry on my luggage with first leg of trip on British Airways. Once I arrive in Terminal 3 at FCO I have 1h 45 m before my Alitalia flight departs Terminal 1 for Palermo. I am guessing I will have to clear customs and then head to Terminal 1 and check bag with Alitalia (their carry-on limit is much smaller than BA). Can I avoid security and get directly to check in with Alitalia? I am worried about the time and want to avoid my bag not arriving in Palermo with me. Advice? Tips?

You will have to go through security because the baggage claim is outside security. You should barely have enough time if your British Airways flight is on-time.

Thanks for your reply, Zap. If my British Airways luggage is carry on, can't I avoid security? I will need to check the bag at Alitalia though, as their carry-on baggage allowance is much less.

No, you can't avoid security. The Alitalia baggage check desks are outside security.

Air Malta should be able to check your bag through to Delta in Malta.

  • Athens to Amsterdam
    Nov 16, 2015
I am flying from Athens to Amsterdam with a very short connection in FCO. Alitalia 721 arriving 8:05pm from Athens. Alitalia 7716 departing to Amsterdam at 9:00pm. No checked bags. Is this enough time to make the connection?

That should be enough time as long as your flight from Athens is on-time.

  • 1 hr. connection, Athens-Palermo
    Nov 12, 2015
Flying Vueling from Athens to Palermo, with only 1 hr connection through FCO. Will that be enough time to connect? Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

Am assuming the gates are in the same terminal at FCO?

Yes, they should be very close to each other.

Thank you ZAP! A great help!

  • Steps to take connection flight
    Nov 9, 2015
Hello! I am traveling from BCN to FCO with Alitalia, according to the itineray my flight arrives at 8:10am to T1 and my next flight departs at 10:35am from T3 to JFK with Alitalia as well. I have a bit more than 2 hours to make the connection (not sure if I have a single ticket since I bought it with Travelocity), I was wondering which are the steps I would need to follow to take the next flight? Can I walk from T1 to T3 without having to pass through security? Any help is very appreciated, thank you!

It is a single ticket if you booked it all at the same time on Travelocity. All you have to do in Rome is walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate. You will go through Schengen Exit Passport control on your way. It is a very brief process. You should have plenty of time as long as your flight from Barcelona is on-time.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Connection from Terminal 3 to 1.
    Nov 6, 2015
Hello. My sister-in-law is Algerian, and she needs a Schengen Visa to enter in Europe. She has a ticket with Alitalia that departs from Rio de Janeiro - Brazil to Alger - Algeria, with a connection in FCO. The first flight lands in Terminal 3 and the second departs on Terminal 1. It's a single ticket. Will she need to pass through passport control or is it possible to go from those terminals into the international area?

Algerians do not require an airport transit visa for sterile connections. She will be making a sterile connection so should not require a Visa.

Also, both flights will be in Terminal 3.

Thank you for your attention. However, i'm a bit confused. On her ticket it says it will depart to Algiers from terminal 1. I also checked at FCO's website and all the flights to Algiers departs from Terminal 1. How is it possible? Thank you.

Sorry, I thought you were going the other direction. This should still be a sterile transfer. If she is worried she can apply for a Schengen Transit visa or ask Alitalia.
