  • FCO connection time
    Jan 30, 2016
Hello. We are arriving to FCO from Newark on United airlines on 4/30 at 7:45 am. We would like to a book a flight to Venice that same morning at 10:10am. Will we have enough time to go through passport control, retrieve our checked bags, and check in for the next flight? The next Venice flight is not until 2:20 and we would of prefer to not wait in the airport if possible.

The 10:10 flight should work if your United flight is on-time.

Hi, I arrive to FCO from PSA (Alitalia) at 8:30a and depart FCO to DTW at 11:15a (Delta). Two separate reservations/PNRs. I hope to have carry on only and to be checked in for the 2nd flight. I would think this is enough time, but not sure about terminals, Schengen v. non-Schengen, passport control, etc. for such a flight. Q1, Best case: is this enough time if I only have carry-on and am already checked in for the 2nd flight? Q2, Worst case: is this enough time if I have checked luggage and need to collect and re-check in at the airport for the 2nd flight? Thanks for any information.

You will arrive in Terminal 1 and depart from Terminal 3 although the Delta check in is in Terminal 5. It should be enough time for your connection, whether you have bags or not.

    Thanks very, very much!

  • Miami to Palermo
    Jan 29, 2016
Flying from Miami to Palermo connecting through Rome all on Alitalia! Where do I go through customs and my connection is only an hour do I have enough time to get from plane to plane or should I change flights? What about on the way back do I go through customs in Palermo?

You will go through Schengen Passport Control in Rome on your way to your departure gate in Terminal 1. On the way back from Palermo, you will go through Schengen Exit Passport Control in Rome and US Immigration and Customs in Miami. 1 hr is barely enough time. Alitalia isn't known for their punctuality.

  • Connecting to international flight
    Jan 28, 2016
I am Australian and will be flying Alitalia from TLS to FCO, arriving at 8.25 pm. I depart on Etihad at 9.45 pm for AUH. Do I go through Customs and Immigration at Toulouse and just need to go to my gate at Rome, or do I need to go through Immigration at Rome? I have a single booking through Etihad, and this connection came up as legitimate, but I'm a bit anxious that it is very little time to connect to my international flight.

In Rome you will just go through Schengen exit passport control which is a very brief process. You should have enough time.

Thank you so much. That has eased my mind. I don't want to spend my whole trip stressing about catching my flight home!

  • In transit briefly

I arrive from Malta and have 2 hours to connect with a flight to Singapore. Arrival and departure are Terminal 3. Do I have to go through immigration when I arrive from malta

You will go through Schengen exit passport control which is a very brief process.

  • Arriving from USA at 6:45am, 8:35 connection to Malta
    Jan 28, 2016
I'm arriving from NYC via Delta at 6:45am. I want to take the 8:35 Ryanair flight to Malta. My luggage is carry-on only. Is this enough time to get from T5 to T3 and clear customs/passport check?

That should be enough time. You will actually arrive in Terminal 3. There are no arrivals in Terminal 5.

Those are the words I wanted to hear! Thank you!!

  • First time at FCO

Arriving FCO from Pisa; have 2 hours 45 minutes to connect to KLM/Delta to Detroit. Is that enough time?

Yes, that should be plenty of time.

  • Transfer Terminal 3 to terminal 1 for my daughter
    Jan 21, 2016
My 16 year old daughter is travelling with her school in Rome for March 2016. The school will be leaving Rome from Terminal 3, but my daughter needs to leave from Terminal 1 to meet us at another destination. Can she clear security with her school at Terminal 3 and then transfer to Terminal 1 without exiting the secured area of the Airport ? And how long would it take to transfer ? Thanks (can't figure this out looking at airport maps)

Where is she flying from? What airlines is she flying? Are her two tickets on two separate reservations? Does she have checked bags?

She's departing Rome and wants to wait with her school in Terminal 3 until they leave. Her flight leaves a couple hours later from Terminal 1. No checked bags. Thanks.

She won't be able to go through the Schengen Exit passport control area of the airport where her classmates will be waiting without a ticket leaving the Schengen Area.

She has two tickets and boarding passes - one returning with her school and another to board terminal 1. So she can enter Terminal 3 with them. Thanks

Immigration might give her a hard time as she will have already exited the Schengen Area and will be Re-entering it to go to your gate. It's not illegal per se, but it's definitely possible they will be suspicious.

So she will need to exit Terminal 3 and re-enter Terminal 1 security again. Any idea how long that might take ? Thanks

  • Enough Time

Arriving Air Canada from Toronto 08.30am in FCO and need to fly to Pisa. Would a flight at 10.10am to Pisa be OK? Thanks

    No, I'd want another hour.

  • Enough time?
    Jan 19, 2016
I'll be arriving at FCO from Atlanta on Delta Airlines at 7:30am on June 11th. I'm planning to book a flight at 10:10am on Alitalia to Venice. Have I allotted enough time to get through customs .. pick up my bags and re-check my luggage to VCE?

    That should be enough time.

I am flying from the US to FCO via Munich. Arriving into Terminal 3 on Lufthansa. I need to connect to a domestic flight to Naples. I have not bought the ticket as yet, and am wondering how much time will be sufficient for a transfer in FCO? I assume I will have to collect baggage at FCO and recheck it? Thanks.

Yes, if you purchase two separate tickets you will have to collect your bags from Lufthansa, take it to T1, and re-check it, then go through security. I'd want at least 90 minutes, preferably 2 hours.

  • Arriving Alitalia from Israel Need to connect to flight to Florence
    Jan 17, 2016
Is 2 hours enough to get to the right terminal and place if I arrive on an Alitalia flight from Israel to Rome terminal 3 and then catch another flight from Rome to Florence terminal 1?

    That should be enough time.

  • Arriving Terminal 3 leaving Terminal 1
    Jan 17, 2016
Hi I'm flying in from Croatia to terminal 3 at 1.15 and fly out to Palermo at 2.55 from terminal 1. I s this enough time?

If both flights are on Alitalia that should be enough time.

  • Arriving on T1 to T1 Rome to Naples will 1 hr be enough?
    Jan 13, 2016
I only have 1 hr layoever, only carry ons.

If both flights are within Schengen it should be enough time.

  • Connecting from FCO Term 3 to Term 1 flight to Palermo
    Jan 10, 2016
I am arriving from Canada (Toronto) on an August flight that arrives at 8.30 am at FCO Term 3. I want to catch a flight from FCO to Palermo from Term 1. I am considering two options: Alitalia flight leaving at 11.10am or flight leaving at 12.20pm to Palermo. First flight gives me 2hr40 min betw flights and 2nd flight gives me 3hr50 min. I will have to clear customers, pick up luggage, transfer terminals and then check in luggage for Palermo flight and go through security. Do both options give me enough time or should i take longer option. I've flown thru Rome many times but never on this connection. Thanks for your thoughts. David A.

You could probably make either, although I personally would probably book the later one.
