  • Connecting at FCO
    Mar 29, 2016
I arrive at FCO on United from EWR at 7:45am and have a connecting flight on Alitalia to Venice at 10:10am (separate ticket). Is it worth trying to check my bags through to VCE at EWR or will we have to retrieve bags to clear immigration in Rome anyway? United has interline agreement with Alitalia so my plan was to check all the way through to minimize connection time. Thanks!

You would not have to claim your bags in Rome if they are tagged through to Venice. However, I highly doubt United will do this for you.

Thanks! Any reason in particular you think they won't do it with Alitalia? We've had United interline babes through with TAM, Thai, Malaysian Air, etc in the past with no issue. I guess my main question was whether we would have a better chance making the connection if our bags are checked through or do we need to retrieve them and re-check in Rome regardless?

  • T3 to T1
    Mar 26, 2016
Arrive T3 on united From DC. I bave One Hours and twenty minutes to Go to T1 for a Flight to Algero in Sardinia...only carry on luggage. Do I need to go through customs or security again? Is this enough time.

You will just go through Schengen Passport control. With only carry-ons that should be possible. Check in for your Alitalia flight online before you leave DC.

  • Arrive from Venice connecting to Chicago
    Mar 26, 2016
Hi, I am looking to fly from vce to fco arriving at 8:45 and departing for Chicago at 9:30; it would all be on one Alitalia ticket and would not have to recheck bags; is 45 minutes enough time to get to the flight?

It's not impossible, but its' very difficult.

  • Transiting from Catania, Sicily to Tirana, Albania on Alitalia ticket
    Mar 22, 2016
Hi, looking at the above and see an option for an Alitalia flight from Catania to Tirana that has a 1 hour 15 min transit time in Rome. Do I have to clear immigration in Rome (or Sicily) - if so, is the time stated by Alitalia long enough for the transfer? Thanks for your help.

You will go through Schengen exit passport control in Rome and Albanian immigration and customs in Tirana. You should have enough time.

  • Connection time from international flight to Schengen flight
    Mar 26, 2016
Hi, my friend and I are due to arrive in FCO on Monday 27th June 2016 at 6:50am on Thai Airways from Bangkok. I am looking at booking a 9:15am Meridiana flight to Mykonos. Both of us will have checked baggage. Will this be sufficient time to collect our luggage, get through security and check-in for our next flight?

That's barely enough time if everything goes smoothly.

Ok thank you, we'll definitely reconsider. Would a 10:50am flight with Agean airlines be a much safer option?

    Yes, it would be.

  • american airline connection to alitalia
    Mar 19, 2016
I have 2 separate tickets, arriving 26/3/16 on American air at 9:45am, departing Alitalia 11:30 am. Can I make this with checked bags, will paying for the express security service help? Am I ok with carry on bags? I think I arrive at terminal 3 and depart terminal 1, is there a way to let Alitalia know of this tight connection to facilitate it. any other suggestions? Thank You Xavier

I actually arrive on the 27th, sunday morning at 9:30 am, which should be less hectic. xavier

It will be difficult, even with express security service. No checked bags will definitely help though.

  • Athens - FCO - Barcelona
    Mar 19, 2016
My girlfriend and I are flying from Athens and arriving at FCO at13:45, then leaving FCO at 15:00 for our flight to Barcelona. This gives 1hr and 15 minutes. Both flights are with Ali Italia but we have to re-check our bags. I know this will be tight but is it do-able? Is there any way to arrange to have the baggage checked through even though its not one ticket? Thanks!

I think you can have your bags checked through to Barcelona by asking the Alitalia desk in Athens. That should be enough time. All flights are within Schengen.

  • JFK - FCO - FLR
    Mar 15, 2016
Arriving in Rome from the US vai Alitalia and transferring to another Alitalia flight to Florence (one ticket). Will be checking luggage. What happens in Rome? Do I collect my luggage and deliver to Florence flight or is it transferred through? What airport do I go through customs? What airport does my luggage go through customs?

You will not have to collect your bags in Rome. All you have to do in Rome is go through passport control and to your departure gate in Terminal 1.

Is 75 minutes enough time between Rome and Florence flights?

It should be just enough time.

  • Bari to EWR
    Mar 15, 2016
We are planning on arriving into FCO from Bari at 7:40 and connecting to a United flight to EWR leaving at 9:55. is this enough time with checked bags, thank you

It's just about enough time. Since it appears you are traveling on two separate reservations, after you claim your bags in T1 you will have to take a shuttle to Terminal 5 to check them with United.

  • Transfer: JFK international Delta to Domestic blu-express mykonos
    Mar 14, 2016
My Detla flight (DL 444) arrives at 10:45AM to FCO. Then I have a domestic flight on blu-express (BV2784) departs FCO at 12:30pm for Mykonos. Will that be enough time (1 hour 45 minutes) with international customs at FCO?

Not that it should matter, but this would be on Friday August 19th this year.

With checked bags that's pretty difficult. Without checked bags it should be OK.

  • Is 1h10min enough time to change flights (both in Shengen)?
    Mar 13, 2016
Hi, we would like to travel to Cagliari from Prague with connection in Roma - both flights with Alitalia. But the time to change flights in Roma is only 1h10min. Is it possible to manage? Thank you very much for your help

Yes, that should be enough time. All you have to do is go from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

  • Connecting Flights
    Mar 12, 2016
I'm looking to book on Alitalia and all on a single ticket with no checked baggage but I'm unsure on the connections. Arriving from Chicago at 7:30am and departing 10:25am to Moscow... And arriving from Moscow at 8:25am and departing Rome for Chicago at 9:30am. Will this be enough time?

Yes, that should be enough time for both connections.

  • Is 45 minutes ok to connect from T3 to T1 (all flights Schengen)?
    Mar 13, 2016
I am about to purchase an easyjet ticket from Geneva (Schengen) to FCO arriving at T3 at 08:10 and a connecting ticket from FCO to Athens departing from t1 at 08:55 so I should get from T3 to T1 in about 20 minutes. Probably ok if there's no passport control but probably too short if there are controls. Any thoughts?

    I wouldn't try it.

Thanks! I'll take another route then. Best!

  • Connection between terminals
    Mar 10, 2016
We are arriving on American Airlines, assuming it arrives in Terminal 5. Our connection is to Cairo on Alitalia (assuming it leaves from Terminal 1,2 or 3). I understand we have to clear customs in Rome and recheck our luggage ourselves. What transportation is there between Terminal 5 and the other Terminals? How long should we expect it to take?

You do not arrive in Terminal 5, no flights arrive in Terminal 5. You will arrive in Terminal 3. You will also depart from terminal 3. You will just have to go through passport control, claim your bags, re-check them with Alitalia, then go through security and schengen exit passport control. I recommend a bare minimum of 2 hours between flights.

    Great news. Thx.
