Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Terminal 3 to 5 connection
    Sep 9, 2014
I recently searched the internet prior to my connection in Rome (FCO) from terminal 3 to terminal 5. There is so much misleading information that I feel my summary might be helpful. My trip took me from Athens on Aegean Airlines to Rome and then continuing on US Airways to Philadelphia. I was arriving in Terminal 3 and told that all flights depart from US from Terminal 5. Some reports on here suggested 3-4 hours needed for the transfer. First of all, if you are have checked your bags ALL the way to your final destination at the origin (My bad was tagged to PHL in Athens), and you have a boarding pass for your connecting flight in Rome, you DO NOT NEED TO EVER ENTER TERMINAL 5. Terminal 5 is only for passengers who originate in Rome. When I landed in Terminal 3, I followed the signs for connecting flights which took me to G gates where my flight for US departs. Connecting from T3 to T5 took me about 20 minutes. I hope this is helpful.

Yes, that is correctt. Thank you for your experience.

I arrived from Moscow to FCO. I have a connection to Atlanta in the morning. I checked my bag all the way to ATL. So, I went through a security check, but not passport control. Did you have to go through passport control when you were transiting? I am sitting near the H gates now, waiting for the morning. I am a bit confused. I already have my boarding pass for the Delta flight.

any chance a 40 minutes is enough time if we're arriving from Malta in terminal 1 & flying out of terminal 1 to Toronto? it makes me very nervous but others in my party seem to think it can be done.

That is very risky. Flight to Toronto will actually be from Terminal 3.

I am flying to Rome on Alitalia And transferring to a Alitalia flight to Venice. I have about an hour and fifteen minutes to make the connection. Is that enough time? What is the easiest way to get from one flight yo the other. Our bags will be checked through

Just follow the signs to T1 upon arrival. You will go through Schengen passport control on your route.

  • Boston - FCO - VCE on Alitalia Connection Time
    Sep 4, 2014
We are planning to fly from Boston to FCO on Alitalia, connecting to VCE. The layover is 1 hr. 55 minutes. Is that likely to be sufficient?

Yes, that should be enough time.

  • Delta from ATL to Meridiana FCO-OLB Terminal 3 How much time?
    Sep 4, 2014
Arriving on Delta at 7:30 AM at FCO. Will it be possible to catch a Meridiana flight to Olbia at 8:50? I'm booked on a later flight but since it's the same terminal I'm hoping to get the earlier flight.

It should be possible if you don't have checked bags. Might be difficult with checked bags since you'd have to have them moved.

Thank you, very helpful site. I'm not checking a bag so I should make it.

  • time needed to connect US-Rome-Palermo-- different airlines
    Sep 4, 2014
How much time will we need to connect from US flight to Rome to Vueling to Palermo-- and which terminals?

You will both arrive in and depart from Terminal 3. If you have checked baggage I'd want a minimum of 2 hr 30 minutes between flights. Without checked baggage it may be doable in 90 minutes if you get your Vueling boarding pass online before leaving the US.

what about if we take another carrier to palermo, eg ryan air/iberia? thanks

Iberia doesn't fly from Rome to Palermo. RyanAir would require the same amount of time.

so how long does it take to get thru customs and immigration after landing from Boston? Thanks for help.

    Probably 30-45 mins.

  • Connecting from terminal 3 to terminal 5
    Sep 5, 2014
I am having 2hr gap from abu dhabi to atlanta ,ie terminal 3 to terminal5 is this enough and will i have to go thru immigration check and security again in terminal 5.

No, I do not think that is enough time unless your Abu Dhabi flight is quite early. You will have to go through security and Schengen exit procedures in Terminal 5.

ZAP....curious...if you arrive at terminal 3 Nd leave for USA from G isnt there airside so you dont have to go to T5? Especially is your bags are checked all the way

  • getting from terminal 3 to terminal 5
    Aug 18, 2014
My daughter flys into terminal 3 and has 45 minutes to get to a flight in terminal 5. Is this doable?

She would go out front of terminal 3 and wait at the first curb for a shuttle bus to take her to T5. They come every 10 minutes approx. At T5 she gets in line for pre TSA approval (they put a little sticky on the outside of her passport denoting she has been asked the "did anyone strange ask you to put something in your bag"? questions). From there she will go into a large room to obtain her boarding pass according to airline. If she already has a boarding pass she will go straight to the TSA screening. It is doable but barely and it depends on how long the TSA line is at the time she arrives.

45 minutes really isn't adequate. It could take her close to that just to GET to T5.

  • UsAir arr in rome
    Aug 1, 2014
Arrive in Rome on US Air and connect to Alitalia for Palermo on separate ticket. Do I have to claim bag and go through security again . How much time

You can ask the US Airways agent in your origin city if they can check the bag through to Palermo by showing your Alitalia confirmation as US Airways and Alitalia do have an interline agreement. Otherwise you will have to claim your bag in Rome and take it to Terminal 1 to re-check. If you do get your bag checked through to Palermo by US Airways, you can just go directly to Terminal 1 to get your boarding pass after clearing immigration. I would leave at least 2 hours for your transfer, preferably closer to 3.

  • VCE to FCO to JFK
    Aug 1, 2014
We'll be flying 6:40am flight to Rome(FCO) from Venice (VCE), arriving at 7:45am. Our flight to New York (JFK) leaves at 9:45am. Is that plenty of time to make the connection? I'm assuming that first flight is domestic, so there won't be a problem at all. We don't plan to check any bags.

Yes, that should be enough time, especially if your flight to JFK is on Alitalia meaning you don't have to take the shuttle to Terminal 5. If you do have to go to Terminal 5 it will be a little more difficult but still doable.

We'll be flying out on American Airline, so it'll have to be T5, unfortunately. As long as AirItalia flight leaves on time... ;)

  • JFK - FCO - Venice. Claim baggage in Rome?
    Jul 21, 2014
Flying American to Rome, connecting to Alitalia to Venice. Do I have to claim my bags and go through customs in Rome and then re-check? Or do the bags go through to Venice? We have 2.5 hrs in Rome.

If your bags are only tagged through to Rome due to purchasing separate tickets, obviously you would have to claim them in Rome.

I did not purchase the tickets separately, I purchased a flight to venice through American airlines. Obviously I know that if my bags are tagged to Rome then I would claim them in Rome. That is not the least bit helpful as an answer. What I need to know is WHETHER my bags will be tagged to Rome or Venice.

In that case your bags should be tagged through to Venice and you will collect them when you get to Venice (in Europe you do not have to collect checked bags when entering a country if just connecting). You will just go through Passport Control as you travel from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1.
