  • Connection time for Direct Train to Florence
    Feb 9, 2015
We will be arriving FCO on Sunday, April 19 on Alitalia from Toronto (scheduled arrival @ 13:00), and would like to take the 16:08 direct train from FCO to Florence. Will there be enough time to make it through immigration and customs?

oops...I meant the 15:08 direct train to Florence....sorry!

That should be plenty of time.

Hi, I currently have a 12pm booked from Catania to FCO on Alitalia, scheduled to arrive at 13:20. I am considering booking a flight on Germanwings departing at 14:10 to Berlin. Will I have enough time (50 minutes) between scheduled landing in FCO and departure to TXL? I may have the option of having only a checked bag but would like to know in either scenario. Will I need to go through passport control again? If I do a check a bag with Alitalia, will I have to go outside the passport area to reclaim it and then check back in through Germanwings security? Thanks!

You will not have to go through passport control because all three locations are inside the Schengen area. However, booking two tickets with a checked bag with only 50 minutes in between flights is nearly impossible. Yes, you would have to exit security to claim your bag, then re-check it with Germanwings then go through security.

Thank you. And if I am not checking any bags might I have enough time to travel between terminal 1 (where Alitalia is) and terminal 3 (where Germanwings is)?

Like I said, without checked bags, it's possible, but difficult.

  • Connecting flights in Terminal 2 and 3
    Feb 7, 2015
I'll be a in Rome for a week, then flying to Hamburg for a couple of days. First flight is an Egyptair one which lands/departs in Terminal 3 while the other is an EasyJet, from Terminal 2. On my return I will have both flights in the same day, first arrives at 10:00 and the other departs 13:40. I'll also have luggage stored in Terminal 3 storage before flying to Hamburg, is there enough time to exist, get the bag, and checkin for the second flight? Also should I expect passport control when departing Rome to Hamburg and vise versa?

You will not have to go through passport control when going from Rome to Hamburg and back as both Rome and Hamburg are in the Schengen area. Yes, you should barely have enough time.

  • Connection Time

My fiance and I are arriving in FCO from PSA and then catching a connecting flight to Athens with 1 hour and 50 minutes in between flights. We booked the tickets separately. One flight operated by Darwin Airline and the second Alitalia. Is this enough time if we have to claim baggage or should we change flights?

I think that will be enough time. However, also note that both flights will be operated under the Alitalia code. So, if you show your flight confirmation for your Athens flight to the Alitalia agent in Pisa, he or she should be able to check you in for both flights and check your bags through to Athens.

    Thank you so much!!!

  • Connecting at FCO to Venice
    Feb 3, 2015
My fiancee and I will be arriving in Rome from Charlotte, NC, USA. We have already booked that flight through US Airways. We are then hoping to book a flight with Alitalia to fly to Venice soon after our arrival. We are trying to figure out how it will work with our luggage that we will have checked. Are we going to have to exit the terminal and claim our baggage and then check it again through Alitalia or is there a way to have it transferred between our flights? I'm concerned since flights will be booked separately with two airlines in two countries. Thank you.

Yes, since you are purchasing separate tickets you will have to claim your baggage and bring it to Alitalia. I would leave at least 3 hours between your flights.

Thank you for your help. Is it going to be worth it (in terms of time) to do this and try to fly to Venice, or would it be easier and faster to just get on a train?

That's up to you. I think it would take about the same amount of time either way.

My wife and I are arriving in FCO on USAirways and are leaving on Airmalta for Malta. We have 1 hour and 50 minutes and between arrival time and our departure with Airmalta, My wife doesn't believe this is enough time. We would appreciate any input/help can provide anyone

That should be enough time if the tickets were purchased together. Otherwise if they were purchased separately and your bags are not tagged through to Malta, it may be difficult to get your bags claimed and then to the Air Malta check-in desk and checked in time.

    Meant Alitalia not Air Italia

    Jan 30, 2015
Us citizen flying from Athens to Rio de Janeiro connecting thru FCO, one way ticket, all Air Italia. Is 1 hr 40 min enough. Will I need to clear immigration or customs ? Assume checked luggage will not have to be dealt with as it will be checked on through to Rio.

Yes, that should be enough time. You will just have to go through Schngen exit passport control as you go towards your departure gate to Rio.

    Thanks for the info

Flying from naples to rome on Alitalia then rome to Atlanta on delta we have 11/2 hr to connect but do we have to go from terminal 1 to terminal 5 and then g for flight or just term1 to gate g? I am so confused!

No, your bags will be checked through to Delta. All you have to do is go to your departure gate in the T3 Satellite and show your documents to the Delta desk there.

    Thank you so much

I am planning a flight from Athens, GR to NYC-JFK for my niece in July. Is one hour sufficient to change from an Alitalia flight from Athens to FCO and then board the Alitalia flight to NY? Baggage would be checked through to NY. Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time. In Rome she just has to follow signs to her departure gate. She will go through Schengen Exit passport control on her route.

Hi, I will be flying in to Rome FCO from Dubrovnik on 18th April 2015. Arrival time is listed 13:10. I have a separately booked flight (Alitalia) departing 15:00. In theory the inbound flight should arrive at the same terminal the outbound flight is leaving from. Do you think there is enough time to get the luggage off the belt, exit arrivals, check-in and catch the outgoing flight? If no, will travelling with hand-luggage only work? Thanks in advance

Yes, that will probable be enough time either with or without checked baggage. But if you can go without checked baggage, go without.

  • Time Needed for Transfer
    Jan 17, 2015
I'm arriving from Atlanta on Delta at 9:50 AM and departing at 12:10 on Meridiana Airlines to Sardinia. I have separate tickets. Will there be enough time to make the transfer? Thank you.

Yes, that should be enough time, if your bags are checked through to Sardinia just follow the signs to your departure gate, you will go through Schengen passport control on your route. If your bags are not checked through you will have to claim them and bring them to the Meridiana check-in desk.

  • Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 Connection Past Security
    Jan 17, 2015
My elderly father is leaving Rome Terminal 3 at noon and I'm headed to Greece Terminal 2 at 8pm. Can I be with my father until his flight then head to Terminal 2? Whether he goes through security at T3 and I T2 can I meet up with him, so I'll be with hime until his flight?

You can't go with him to his flight as you will not be able to go through Schengen exit passport control without a boarding pass exiting the Schengen area. The boarding areas are separate.
