Security at San Diego SAN Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has instituted standardized screening procedures at airports across the country. The TSA offers specific information to familiarize you with these procedures. The TSA also has provided a comprehensive list of Traveler Tips and Prohibited Items. The Department of Homeland Security, as needed, will dictate specific measures to augment the Airport's existing security. All travelers should be prepared to adhere to any changes in security or alert levels – green (low), blue (guarded), yellow (elevated), orange (high) or red (severe). Specifically, increased levels of alert may initiate any or all of the following measures: Increased uniformed law enforcement presence in public areas Increased patrols of the Airport's perimeter Random inspections of vehicles entering the Airport roadways and parking lots Details on every security measure cannot be outlined because of confidentiality. Whenever possible, timely information will be shared in order to prepare travelers in advance of their arrival. Additional Security-Related Tips Arrive Early: Longer lines and wait times may result because of increased security measures. Plan to arrive two (2) hours prior to flight departures. Passengers are strongly encouraged to check with their respective airlines to verify schedules before coming to the Airport. Click here for updates from the TSA on current wait times at San Diego International Airport and other airports throughout the country. Have ID and Tickets Ready: Ticketed passengers with photo identifications (IDs) will be allowed past security checkpoints to boarding areas. Passengers embarking on ticketless travel must either carry printed proof of their ticket purchases (e.g., a printed itinerary) or check in at the ticket counter. Curb Alert: Curbside parking is not permitted. Unattended curbside vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed. Occupied vehicles at the curb will be asked to circle around unless actively loading or unloading passengers.
