Your arrival at JFK depends on which airline you arrive at. International Arrivals need to go through passport check, pick up bags, go through customs clearance. Since you bought separate tickets, you will need to take your bags along to the connecting terminal & check it in with Delta (Delta uses domestic terminal T2 for Charlotte. Take the 'Airline Terminals Train' with your on the upper level (follow signs) which runs counter-clockwise on average every 10. minutes, then proceed to the departure level & check in your bag. Thereafter, go through security check & on to your connecting gate. A 2-hr transfer time is advisable.
