  • Layover - Do I have enough time?

Hi, I'm a US resident alien (with Global Entry) arriving at SFO on Flight JL2 (Japan Airlines) from HND @ 16.25 I need to get on a United flight (separate booking) from SFO > AUS @ 18.07 Will I need to go through security again, and do you think I can make the connecting flight? Thank you! -Alex

Yes, you will have to go to Terminal 3 and go through security. If you don't have checked bags and check in for your United flight online before you leave Japan I think you can make this. With checked bags, I don't think it would be very feasible, even with Global Entry.

Thank you for the response. I will have hand luggage only and will definitely check-in to my United flight beforehand. I guess it's the equivalent of turning up the airport with 1hr 30 mins to spare for a domestic flight, seems do-able. It seems to be a flight that regularly gets in a little early too.

  • 1 Hour 18 Enough time for Layover? Toronto - San Fran - Taipei

United Airlines From Toronto to SFO, 1 Hour 18 minute layover until next flight to Taipei. I will have 1 checked bag, is this enough time? Will I have to exit then re-enter the airport and go through the whole dance again of customs and checking in? Thanks! any help is appreciated

You will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Toronto and there is no US Customs when exiting the US. However, United doesn't fly from Toronto to SFO so that flight will be operated by Air Canada. Air Canada operates from the A and G concourse of the International Terminal. If you arrive in the G concourse you can just walk to your departure gate. If you arrive in the A concourse you will have to exit security, walk over to the G side, and go back through security. You have enough time.

Hi! arriving from Tokyo to SFO via A11 Nippon Airways then SFO to YYC (calgary) via skywest united express with a 1 hour and 30 mins. layover. It will be my first time in SFO. is the time sufficient? how many minutes would it take to reach the terminal? do I have to collect my luggage and recheck?

Yes, you will arrive in the International Terminal, go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, re-check your bags at the re-check desk, then go through security and to your departure gate in Terminal 3

Same way if my flight is from calgary-SFO-tokyo? I will have to claim and re-check my check in luggage?

No, on the way back you will pre-clear US Immigration and Customs in Calgary, you won't have to do anything with your baggage in SFO. Just walk from your arrival gate to your departure gate.

I bought an ANA codeshare with United airlines flight ticket. Departing from KUL to IAD. I will have 1 hour 35 minutes layover at SFO at 10:40am. With checked luggage, will that be enough? KUL - NRT (ANA) NRT - SFO (United) SFO - IAD (United)

Yes, that should be enough time if your flight from Tokyo is on-time.

HI, I'm flying into SFO from Tokyo and will be landing at 9:30 am, and have a separate ticket directly purchased from Delta, Is it enough time to catch a flight to Detroit at 11:33 am. Please advice the connecting route walk. Many thanks

You will arrive in the International Terminal go through US Immigration, claim your bags, go through US Customs, then take your bags to Terminal 1, re-check them with Delta, and go through security. 2 Hours is barely enough time if everything goes perfectly.

  • Change plane in 35min

Hi, we are going to fly from YVR to OGG and we are europeans with working visa in canada. Is 35minutes for changing planes enough time?Thank you for your answer.

Yes, but it doesn't leave much time for delays. Vancouver has US Immigration and Customs preclearance, so you will clear customs there and your arrival into SFO will be like a domestic flight.

  • Sufficient layover from international to domestic flight.

I'm flying from Cancun to SFO. My connection time is 1 hour to get on flight to San Diego. Is the time sufficient to clear customs? I have no checked luggage to avoid any waiting or time checking in luggage. Leaving soon. Tried calling customer service but the phone hold was too long. Thank you so much for your help!

It's well below the minimum connection time. Wait a few days and then call customer support again. Also, with no checked baggage you may make it even though it's below the minimum time. Worst case if you miss it you get rebooked. United has a lot of SFO-SAN flights.

    I made it! TY

  • Cousin coming in tomorrow, question

So my cousin is coming from TPE tomorrow. Her next flight is to San Diego. He has around a four hour gap. We did not tell her we might met her and might go at the last minute. the question is, will she come out of the terminals, or does she have an option of staying in the terminals without coming out?

Upon arrival from Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan at SFO's International Terminal, your cousin will first go through the customs process & re-check-in bags, then proceed to the Arrivals Hall, where you can meet her/him near the information counter, and thereafter your cousin can take the Red-line of the Air Train (one flight down) to her connecting domestic terminal (T1, T2 or T3).
